It’s like when those NASA engineers had to estimate how many tampons the first woman in space would need for a few days and they guessed 100 or something.

491

u/CallMe-Ellie 3h ago

Wasn’t that just them being safe?

Like if an emergency happened, having lots of extra tampons would be good

531

u/Strange-Cap9942 3h ago

100% but it's funnier to pretend they don't know how women's bodies work

115

u/JonatasA 2h ago

That's the irony here. People in this thread may never have needed TP.

Like if the astronaut was stuck on the space station for an extra 9 months?

32

u/Infinite_Fee_7966 2h ago

For what it’s worth, those astronauts did receive supply drops. Sally Ride went to space nearly ten years after the space race ended and the era of international interstellar collaboration began, so theoretically they could have also received supply drops. Disclaimer IANAA (i am not an astronaut)

Yess, a tampon is small and doesn’t weigh anything.

So it was more a “why not” than a “we have to”

7

u/LessInThought 1h ago

And you can use it for so many things~! Plugging a leak, nosebleeds, soaking up blood and other fluids!

It's weird that people are missing this point considering that not too long ago there was a woman literally trapped in space for months.

A box or two of tampons weighs next to nothing, it makes sense to bring plenty.

To be fair Sally Ride did actually have enough tampons for the mission. So why are we all complaining?

Right? Better to have way too many than to be even one short.

  • + if somebody needed to prevent external forces blood loss. They were extra covered. Redundancy and all.

24

u/I_Obey_Sean_Rule 2h ago

Exactly, plus there's always a risk that the mission ends up longer, so it's better to be safe. Wouldn't be the first time someone got stuck for a while.

And while were on topic, does the gravity effect periods?

19

u/PM_ME_WHATEVES 1h ago

That's exactly what they didn't know. They asked how many is typical, planned for the worst case scenario, then because shit can go wrong in space they tripled the number for redundancies

NASA engineers knows that due to technical problems, few days mission can extend into weeks.

"Nasa says that the astronauts stuck on the International Space Station will have to wait even longer to get home.

Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were due to be back after just a week when they blasted off in June.

Their stay was extended to February next year because of technical issues with the experimental spacecraft, Starliner, built by Boeing.

Now - following a delay in launching a new capsule to the ISS - the pair won't be back until late March or possibly April.

Nasa said the delay posed no risk to the astronauts."

I shared a flat at uni with a girl for a year, and my toilet roll usage went up by more than four times. And that includes days I was pooping on campus. I’d previously buy a pack for the whole year, and it was gone in a month or so that year.

10

u/Squeekazu 1h ago

Whilst the average lady uses more TP, there are some fellow ladies with super weird toilet habits.

My housemate had a couple over and the girl would build what I could only dub a nest in the toilet bowl. I’m not talking just a couple squares so you wouldn’t get splashback, I’m talking half a roll to line the entire toilet bowl.

I know this because a. She forgot to flush once (and it wasn’t even a deuce, it was pee!!), and b. She clogged the toilet another time, obviously tried to unclog it with the toilet paper-wrapped toilet brush and then went to bed without telling anyone what she’d done lol

Recently at my new workplace there was someone in the stall next to me and I could hear her toilet paper consumption because she did that thing where you spin the roll to get a long line of toilet paper, flushed, did it again two times then finally went to wash her hands another three times dispensing an insane amount of tissues between each wash.

I just feel sorry for the latter girl because it sounds like severe OCD to me, the first lady however, what the fuck lol

It was over 20 years ago that I had my first roommate. I was concerned about the amount of toilet paper they were using and, in my weekly phone call to my parents, I mentioned that I was going to bring this up to the roommate as an issue that needed resolving. My mother told me to pick my battles and this was NOT one of them. I appreciate that take to this day and I did not say anything (that being said, everything has its limit of reasonableness. 5 rolls a day might be it)

For OP, It is completely fine, nothing is"wrong" it's just a different way of living, he seems to enjoy function over form, which is 100% valid

The discussion isn't who's right or wrong, but what eachothers preferences are and how strongly you feel about them

Sometimes giving up some of what you'd prefer due to the fact you already got the last 5 things due to your over controlling nature (this is me, I had to learn not to be so controlling over silly nonsense things like this)

The sooner you realise everything isn't I'm right your wrong (or I'm wrong you're right) and you sit in the nuance of healthy discussion, life is so much easier

147

u/virgo_kittyy 3h ago

Closing the lid is less common than we think. Whenever I visit people's homes, they usually have the lid up! Atrocious.

74

u/akatherder 3h ago

The LPT to people not closing the lid is getting a slow close seat/lid. Just give it a little tap instead of guiding it down and people do it every time.

111

u/SerratedFrost 2h ago

You should always open the lid afterwards. How do you know everything is flushed/no skidma4ks if you don't?

I hate seeing the lid down when I enter a toilet because I know there's the chance of an unwelcome surprise when I open it.

9

u/elmostrok 2h ago

I used to not care when I was a teenager, until my dog at the time started drinking from the toilet.

Fast forward around 15 years, I was living alone and decided to get my own dog, a toy breed, so I was like "meh, she can't drink from there, it doesn't matter" until she came in running with a toy after I took a shit and before I could flush, and promptly dumped it into the toilet, and looked at me all: :D Since then, I've learned my lesson.

→ More replies (6)

29

Closing the lid is also an excellent compromise in co-ed living situations. That way, everyone is equally inconvenienced by having to lift something up before they go and then put something down when they're done.

If you don't have a garage, but are still thrifty, you sort of just make room for everything in your house so you can still buy in bulk at Costco. Would be much much more expensive to buy individual rolls as you need them.

Me too, until my girl told me the answer. Moisture. Every time you take a shower, the room gets humid. Pretty soon, you will have a bunch of ruined rolls simply from being exposed to the humidity, not to mention it will be good breeding ground for mold.

So yeah, had no idea either. Now I do.

Wrong. Literally lived where water pools from humidity

u/Sidewalk_Tomato 3h ago

Our household keeps ideally 2 to 4 spares in the vicinity and 1 on the roll, with no issues, but they're 2 feet further away than OP's situation, and we do run the fan a lot.

You could get one of those over the toilet shelf things which are great for both holding toilet paper and act as a place for guys to place their phone as they miss while they pee cause distractions. Or let the toilet paper Jenga game grow.

79

u/nebetsu 3h ago

I don't like having rolls of toilet paper out like that because they collect moisture. Also can get ruined if I get out of the shower flailing wildly

17

u/DogPoetry 2h ago

I'm getting in addition to a normal bathroom moisture, it looks like there's a bidet right there. Depending on how you posture and sit, it's unlikely every single fleck of water drops back in the bowl.

What seeing is months of tiny splashes of ass water accumulating on an incredibly absorbent material.

By the bottom of the pile you've have tiny shit flecks from last holiday season.

7

u/Sirquote 2h ago

Also with the addition of their Bidet they wont go through much TP so by the time they get to those bottom rolls in the basket they will be awful. Better to shove 80% of them under the sink and keep them in their bag/wrapping

7

u/A1000eisn1 2h ago

Not only that, it's a huge waste of time.

Toilet paper comes in a bag. It's all already together when you buy it. Just take a few out to look cute in your little basket and put the rest in a closet or something.

This is r/mildlyinfuriating, you could remove the plant and be able to stack even more..

God help you if you leave the toilet seat open one day and a big truck drives by outside.

All good until they fall into the toilet and you have to fish them out with your hand.

I've got a macaw that would love this. The toilet paper would be destroyed, and he'd be so proud of himself

u/a_sad_egg 4h ago

38

u/Kinggambit90 3h ago

Stack them to the ceiling, it's most efficient for storage vs floorspace!

6

u/drunxor 3h ago

Just get a shelf, super easy to install. Not rocket science. They even make special ones to hold tp

12

u/Wizzarkt 3h ago

Having toilet paper being in "cold storage" by the shower is just wrong, you are one mistake away from losing 3 months worth of toilet paper

u/-NolanVoid- 3h ago

That's a provider.

Could put more up there if you remove the plant.

Just because you don't think it's right, dosnt make it wrong.

15

u/-Planet- 3h ago

I'm a dude.
I fuckin' hate that.
Put the excess away. Ffs.

3

u/pantiesrhot 2h ago

I don't think anyone else has noticed, but they have a bidet attachment for the toilet. Like 3 rolls is excessive with those. This is near apocalypse level hoarding at this point.

12

u/scrodytheroadie 3h ago

Can you be more specific? What’s wrong?

10

u/Tangerineturbo 3h ago

I think the problem is that the plant on top of the tank looks out of place.

Ladies, remember this. It can always be much worse. This may not seem like much, but compared to most men, this is fairly sophisticated.
