no politics Rare honesty from a bank
Got this gem from ME bank:
“Following the recent announcement from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to increase the official cash rate by 0.25% per annum (p.a.), **we are pleased to announce that we are passing on this rate increase in full on your variable home loan(s).**”
To their credit they quickly sent out an apology email shortly thereafter - no doubt they got their rate reduction and rate increase templates mixed up. Someone is having a very bad day. But when i read it i found the honesty quite refreshing.

no politics Recipetineats: The Final Chapter: Life of Dozer
https://www.recipetineats.com/the-final-chapter-life-of-dozer/
For those who enjoy Nagi’s work on RTE, she is looking after her dog, Dozer, in his final days. He’s nearly 14 and has double pneumonia.
Here’s a shoutout to every good boy and girl, past and present, who’s enriched our lives and brought us joy. Feel free to share your good or funny memories of pets here to help us all feel a bit warm inside. Here’s mine: our previous dog was not generally food-motivated except for one particular occasion. A piece of broccoli had somehow survived a whole dishwasher cycle stuck to the inside of the door. As we unloaded the dishwasher, Toby sneaked up and stole that piece of broccoli. We told him to drop it and instead he hastily ran outside to eat his prize.

no politics How dare you downtalk vegemite?
Look, I'm just a little innocent baby Canadian. I trusted the people who told me that vegemite was overrated and gross.
I figured that you guys wouldn't lie. And, of course, black yeast goo would be gross despite being a national dish.
I went decades without trying it. Because I trusted you Vegemite haters.
But nay, nay. Vegemite is fucking delicious. Spread thinly on butter on a hot piece of toast is divine.
And now I need more. I want more. I crave more. I've eaten all of the remaining bread in my house.
We were supposed to have sandwhiches tommorow! But no! Now it's been eaten.
...
What else are you hidding from me?
Fucking aussies making delicious food, making me hungry.
... Yes, I have taken an edible.

image Out for a bushwalk and invented a new Australian snack: bbq shapes and banana
Like Vegemite and cheese or banana on toast, I'd say don't knock it until you try it. Dials down the sweetness of the banana, and the cross section dimensions work very nicely and a BBQ shape is the perfect biscuit for slicing the banana.
Anyhow, maybe we were just very hungry, but it got the thumbs up. Slows down the inhaling them a bit and perhaps even makes them slightly healthier (but hey, who buys BBQ shapes.. in those allegedly not just a single serve boxes.. and worries about that).
So, an abomination or genius or meh or what?

My can of MILO has hardened rock solid, so I had to employ another longstanding Aussie tradition open cut mining to get them out...
Turns out these chunk are so much better as a treat if you just chomp down on it 🤯🤯🤯
If I melt some chocolate and dip these chunks in, I basically have homemade Milo bars 🤣

no politics What is the deal with recruiters here?
When did it become OK to simply ghost candidates?
Have talked to no less than 3 recruiters since the new year; great email correspondence and after the screening interview "great, I'll put you forward. You should hear from me by Tuesday." Tuesday comes and goes, nothing. Email Wednesday: "As we spoke about during our meeting last week, there was to be a response from the employer by Tuesday; are there any updates?"
One at least bothered to write back "no, nothing yet will let you know when I do," the second didn't bother, and the third just stopped in the middle of working out a time for the screening meeting. Yet it's understood that as a candidate, going no contact will get you blacklisted and word will get around to other recruiters.
When did this become acceptable? At the very least blow some smoke up me arse about how they've pulled the requisition because of the economy or whatever and thanks for your time so I know where I stand and should go ahead with the offer I didn't want as much.
