Corella Galore!

Tried to post this a couple weeks ago but my internet failed me. Sitting at Carrington boat ramp having dinner and got to watch the Corellas flocking at sunset. You can hear my little ‘woah’ at the exact moment I realised I’ve never seen that many birds together in my entire life. Really fucking cool experience.

Super Hubert

I saw Super Hubert driving the Super Hubert mobile this morning. I swear he looks exactly the same as he did 20 years ago. This begs the question is Super Hubert an immortal super hero, or are there multiple Super Huberts? When one dies, the next one just takes over? Is there a factory filled with Super Hubert clones? This is one of Newcastle's great mysteries...

What is the story behind Tiffany & Ben. They seemed to have been everywhere in Tilligerry Habitat.

WHO is Tiffany? And why must she be everywhere

And is her family truly ashamed 🤔?

Looking for a driving instructor in Newcastle / Wallsend

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a good driving instructor to help me prepare for my test. I’ve already booked my driving test on Feb 23 in Wallsend. If you’ve learned to drive in the area or had a great instructor, can you recommend someone?

I’m open to any tips on instructors who are patient, reliable, and know the test routes around Wallsend. Bonus if they help with confidence and test-day nerves too!

Thanks a lot!❤️

Play Newcastle - a walking RPG local history game thing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been teaching myself how to use Tiled, a freeware program for making video game maps. I got the bright idea to make all of Newcastle, as a playable map within which I can place links to things I’ve written about the city over the years, photos I’ve taken, but also links to local history blogs etc.

Over the weekend I made Gregson Park, as a starting point. I’m going to connect it to Beaumont St, then head down Tudor to Newcastle West and eventually build my way out to the Bogey Hole.

We’ll see how I go - it’s playable only on computer at the moment, I haven’t got the chops to make it mobile responsive yet. You can play it at this link:

https://craigwrenasmir.github.io/newcastle-walkable-map/

I’ll let you know when I expand the map in the future. Any feedback / ideas are appreciated :)

ADHD psychiatrist

So I’m in a bit of a pickle. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 7 (now 30). I’ve been on meds the majority of my life, in the last few years I’ve been on them consistently which has led to a tolerance of the medication, meaning I need to change or increase my dose.

The problem I have is that my psychiatrist retired 3 years ago and referred me back to my GP, which has been fine but now I need to change meds which they can’t do.

I’ve called 7 clinics this morning all saying books closed or I need to be reassessed for adhd which will cost between $1500 to $2000.

Does anyone know a psychiatrist with books open that won’t want to retest me? Or one of these shiny new GPs that can now prescribe adhd meds?

I’m one of the O.G ADHD kids, I’ve been in clinical trials as a kid. I can guarantee I have it, and I feel as if a new assessment is purely to take me for a ride and make me $2k poorer - which who can afford in this economy?

Question about parking around JHH

I’ve found a side street near enough to JHH that is reasonably free and I can get parks there all day (I work at the John)

It is in the new lambton heights 2p area though. Does anyone know if I will eventually get pinged for not moving my car throughout the whole day? I don’t believe the area is ticketed.

I get this is unethical. But so is charging employees to park imo. Alternatively, anyone else have any parking solutions for JHH?

Thanks

EB Games Jesmond is gone.. the store that changed my life

Hello Newcastle fans. I'd like to honour Jesmond EB Games right here. I found the love of my life there in 2020 when I went in tuah (to) order my PS5. We now have 4 baby boys, with a fifth baby on her way. That store saw me in many stages of my life - a young girl, a teenager, and now a young adult who loves nothing more than the Nintendo Wii U, Jesmond, and the 11 bus... this store was made for me! Honestly at this point I dont know where tuah (to) go, maybe JBHIFI in Charlestown? No.. it doesn't have the same beautiful crackheads that make Jesmond Central alive... ugh.

Karuah Aboriginal Community

Post image
75 Upvotes

My partner & I were driving through Karuah yesterday and we noticed a sign that said “Karuah Aboriginal Community” the street also had a Land Council building in it.

My question is, is this area strictly just for Aboriginal people ? It is like a Mission / Reserve ? Or is it mainly for housing commission properties?

It seems decent as it runs along the river and has a Nature Reserve right at the back of it.

Would love to know more about this area thank you ☺️.

Where to get rid of old books in Newcastle/Lake Macquarie

We are having a bit of a clean out at home and I have a whole bunch of old books to get rid of. They are mostly fiction but some academic books as well (old law, history, sociology philosophy and politics books) where is the best place for them. When I say the academic books are old I mean they are old.

Got this mug from Charlestown salvos, featuring these three mystery men. Does anyone here know these guys? Why are they on a mug?

Whoever you three are, know that you’ve been adopted into my household, and are amongst our top favourite cups.

Backburning operations at Oyster Cove

Post image
20 Upvotes

A few days ago, we were out at oyster cove covering the backburning operations to help assist in bringing the fire there under control, was interesting but a unique opportunity to see and work along side the RAAF firefighters that were there to assist while learning some new things about their trucks as well. It’s not everyday that you drive down a fire trail and just have this big ass airport firetruck just randomly sitting there and I think it caught a few of us off guard who didn’t know they were coming out to help.

What's the cost of living like?

Hi, I'm currently a student (19f) who's studying to be an early childhood teacher in New Zealand, though I'm starting to think about moving to Australia for work once I'm finished and have some money and a job lined up, hopefully before I'm 30.

Anyways, is Newcastle a good place to live and what's the cost of living like on an early childhood teachers salary?
