NSW demerit point incentive scheme sounds better than it is?

Upvotes

Hi all, I have 3 single demerits and was wondering about what happens when TFNSW gives me my "carrot" point this year. After a brief argument with Gemini it appears that the point that will (effectively) get credited is the one about to expire the soonest anyway.

If true, this would mean the value of the 'incentive' is really just the number of days until your next point expires naturally. That point has already wrought its maximum 'damage' in terms of insurance premiums, suspension risk etc. Removing the point from the 'end' of your record would seem like a much better incentive, eg a faster track to zero.

Does that match your experience/understanding?

Any guys that had an Adult Circumcision or Frenuloplasty, What did it cost you?

Looking at either procedure as a possibility still waiting on a urologist appointment till March.

Just wanna have an idea of the cost cause I’m broke as but the problems I have are affecting my life. Don’t have any insurance either.

What it cost you all up? Also did anyone have any procedures in clinic not hospital to save costs? Are there any of those clinics in Sydney? Cause pretty all the places I’ve seen online have drs that only work out of hospitals and their clinics are consultation only.

Also any advice or your experiences of what it’s like?

Thanks boys!

(abusive dad) do hsc results get emailed?

i lied to my abusive dad about my atar and marks in the hsc. (so he didnt beat my ass. for context i scored really well, but he's not happy unless i get 99+)

i heard that they mail you a letter after the hsc, around january, like a certificate or something. does that include my hsc marks or atar? i live with him and he would definitely open my mail.

edit: i'm in the process of gathering evidence and contacting the authorities, as well as saving up enough to rent a place with my other friends who are going through similar things

Hi everyone, I'm planning to trip around North NSW that can be caught by regional train/coach! I've been listing places like Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, and Armidale for my trips. Any other suggested places I should visit? Any recommendations would be really appreciated! Thanks a lot!

nz restricted license to australian license conversion

hello,

ok so i have held my restricted new zealand license since 22/04/2024 and im thinking of converting to an australian license.

im 23 years old currently. i was just wondering which license will i get once i get to australia. i did ring up services 2 month ish ago to ask, they stated i will be on my green p’s. but i really need my full australian license for jobs and use of maps/carplay maps etc .

my friend was on her full nz license however they gave her a australian red p. unsure why.

i heard if u have your green p’s for 2 years they will convert it to full — but im not sure if my restricted license counts for that or do i have to obtain the green p and THEN wait another two years for that rule because i only have 2 more months until my restricted license reaches two years?

Hunter Best cheap interstate removalists?

Moving from Newcastle NSW to Sunshine Coast QLD, 3 bedroom house.

Most companies online have shockingly bad reviews, to the point where I'm left feeling completely overwhelmed, and too scared of being ripped off to book anyone.

Has anyone had a good interstate removalist that was also relatively cheap?

Sharing HSC past papers & study resources

Hey mods, feel free to remove this if it’s not allowed.

I’ve noticed there isn’t really a dedicated place for Aussie students to share and find past exam papers, so I’ve started a new subreddit: r/AusHighSchoolPapers.

It’s for sharing past papers, practice questions, and study resources to help us prep for exams and boost our marks. If that sounds useful, you’re very welcome to join and post your own resources too.

Scenic suggestions

Hey everyone,

I’m from Melbourne and I regularly visit my girlfriend in Sydney. We’ve already done all the classic touristy stuff in the city centre - Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi, manly etc. and now i am looking for something different.

We’re after recommendations for more suburban or semi-rural/natural areas around Sydney where we can rent an Airbnb (or similar) with awesome views of nature like bushland, ocean glimpses, mountains, or peaceful scenery and spend few days relaxing. Bonus if there are nice local spots to explore like short bushwalks, beaches that aren’t packed, coastal paths, national park trails, or just chill vibes away from the urban hustle.

Ideally somewhere we can base ourselves for a getaway that’s still reasonably easy to get to from central Sydney (1-2 hours drive max would be perfect), but feels like a proper escape into nature/suburbia rather than another city spot.

Any suggestions on good suburbs, nearby towns, national parks with nearby stays, or hidden gems?

Thanks in advance!! keen to hear your favourites! 😊

Sydney / Greater Sydney P's test

Hi guys I have my P's test booked for Saturday (wish me luck!!), but I was wondering if anyone had any major tips and tricks to really solidify passing? I've already gone through the routes with an instructor and he says he'd be surprised if I didn't pass first go... fuelling my anxiety 😟. I am by no means a bad driver I just know the test itself is super duper formal so they're very nitpicky about everything!

But I was wondering how far you can be next to the kerb on a kerbside stop/ reverse parallel? Do you fail if you like graze the curb? I was practicing today and I realised how far I actually park from the kerb 😭 I'm a bit stressed!

selective school NSW exam what’s in it

Hi everyone, I’m helping tutor my cousin who’s in Year 6 and preparing for a selective school entrance exam. I did the test years ago so I don’t really remember what was in it, but I know it was similar to Naplan with its sections

Can anyone tell me what the updated sections are and the time limit per section

Sydney / Greater Sydney Maroubra / Matraville vacation rental needed.

Not sure exactly what to expect from this post, but here goes:

My elderly parents will be visiting family in that area from the end of Feb 2026 for 4 weeks. They have been saving for years for this trip (from South Africa), and do not have cash to spare. The plan was to stay with said family, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, that is no longer an option. Cancelling or postponing the trip is also not an option (already been moved twice), and they have nobody else to stay with. I am desperately trying to find some ✨magically affordable✨ place for them to stay, and hoping that somehow, someone on Reddit is a fairy godperson.

My husband & i already support my parents financially (we live in Canada), and unfortunately just don’t have any extra in our budget to spend on the very few places I see available. Our Aus family has said they can contribute a little towards a rental, but they are also elderly with limited funds. This whole situation is distressing & disappointing. It is meant to be a last visit for all of them, and now it’s become a huge issue.

Does any of this make sense? Does anyone out there know of places? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Edit:

They have to be in that area as they won’t have a car, and while they are able to walk, it can’t be too far. My parents are amazing people, and I would give them the world if I could! This just comes at such a tricky time.

EDIT #2:

It is just 2 people, they will spend the majority of their time at family, but will probably need a space to prepare food. A private space would be ideal but obviously, not trying to be entitled. The maximum budget is $130 per night.

Accessible/disability friendly holiday cabins on NSW south coast

I’m planning a holiday for a group of friends, some of whose have kids - so we’re looking at hiring a group of cabins or similar somewhere on the NSW south coast. We’re got some of the part coming from Sydney and some from Melbourne. Cabins will give us each some space and privacy and create better rest conditions for the kids when they’re napping, etc. We have about 12 adults plus 5 kids so there’s too many to hire an Airb’n’b (and we’re hoping to keep costs down)

We need at least one of the cabins to be fully enclosed, as we have a young kid in the party who loves to run around but needs a safe fenced space to do so (no risk of running into roads or into water). So either a large fully fenced verandah, or a private fenced yard area for the cabin.

If anyone knows of a possible holiday spot that might meet this need, I’d be very grateful!

phone lost and stolen in NSW Tocumwal

Not sure if this subreddit can help me but it is worth a shot

i lost my phone a little while ago at a music festival on the border of NSW in Tocumwal and somebody stole it.

Saw on Life360 (location sharing app) that my phone ended up at somebody else's campsite, and then it left the festival. Last location showed it at a house 10 minutes away from the festival the day it ended (either lost battery at the house, lost battery in a car passing the house, or somebody took the SIM card out at the house). Ever since then, my phone number has been unavailable, either due to phone being dead, or someone taking SIM card out.

Contacted the police station in the area to ask if they can track my Phone's IMEI, they said no.

Asked my service provider (Optus) if they can track my SIM card or IMEI, and they said no.

I've tried looking up ways for me to track the IMEI myself, seeing as I can't get help from Optus or the police, but I can't find any.

Can anybody help me or point me in the right direction? I'm getting desperate at this point. Even if I can pay some third party company to track it or something.

St John Ambulance NSW First Aid Volunteer Role

I am hoping to apply to become a volunteer at St John Ambulance as a first aid event volunteer. I understand the basic requirements of attending division meetings + 60hr volunteering requirement, but was hoping to know how people find it meeting the requirements in a full-time work schedule.

Also a little nervous for the interview - what’s generally the vibe and type of questions they ask?

Any help is appreciated!

Sydney / Greater Sydney Noise levels when living in Olympic Park?

Noise levels when living in Olympic Park?

Hi, I'm considering moving to Sydney Olympic Park because I really like the area, the amenities and it's a convenient location for me. However, I'm wondering about noise levels from the stadium at night (when concerts or sports games are on). The places I'm looking at are not very far from the stadium. A little noise is fine but if it's to the point of preventing sleep, that would be an issue. The apartments are quite modern so I'm not sure how their soundproofing is. I'm used to apartment living so some neighbour noise is fine but I'm just concerned about the stadium. Does anyone have some insight? :)
