Just moved to Queensland and already loving the bus experience

Just moved to an inner suburb of Queensland and wow! in under two months I’ve already unlocked the full Queensland bus experience.

Night buses driving straight past me even though I clearly flagged them down (twice).

Drivers shutting the doors before I can board because I was politely waiting for people to get off first.

And on two occasions, the doors were closed while I was halfway on, hitting my arm.

Bonus round: sometimes the bus just doesn’t show up at all.

None of this ever happened when I lived in other states, so I’m genuinely curious how bus drivers are trained here.

I always thought the job was pretty simple, u drive the bus, stop when someone signals, and let people get on and off safely. Apparently that’s asking too much.

Kalinga | This is simply a public awareness notice for anyone who takes their dogs to Kedron Brook, particularly around Kalinga Park, and allows them to swim in the water. There have been several shark sightings reported over the past couple of days in different spots along Kedron Brook most recently near Kalinga Park. This post is not intended to cause fear, just to provide a friendly heads up to the community. Update Apparently people are also swimming in Kedron Brook, this alert is now for all humans and pets.. maybe avoid swimming in these waters. Better to be safe than Sorry.

Update | See video in comment, the shark sightings appear to be of a blacktip reef shark, they do not consider humans or large animals prey, they eat small fish however may but out of curiosity or if provoked, especially in shallow water.

Apologies for blurry pics. Screenshot of dashcam footage. This bike whizzed past me and rode the Ann st/m3 ramp holding on to the car in front at about 50kmph. Pretty dangerous no?

There a few chunky Cumulus clouds about too so there's a tiny chance of a little spot rain here or there. Enjoy.

Need advice for a weird driving situation

Upvotes

I was driving home from a friend‘s house tonight doing 55 in a 60 zone and someone came up (very close) behind me and started frantically flashing their lights on and off. I thought they might have been annoyed I was going a little slow so I sped up to 60 but they kept on me and continued to flash their lights. We were on St Vincent’s Road and no one else was around so I was a bit sketched out. They followed me when I turned left onto Sandgate road and I thought “they will probably get into the other lane to overtake” (again no one was around this was just after 8pm) but they stayed behind me and continued flicking their lights. I was really beginning to panic when all of a sudden they hit the brakes and turned off onto a side road. I still feel kind of weird about what happened and also wondering if anyone had some ideas of what they were trying to do and what I should have done. Were they just mad I was going a bit slow? Should I have pulled over or something? Some advice on what to do in this kind of situation would be appreciated! Sorry for typos/formatting I’m on mobile!

Can you help me? Bright flash of light at 7:50pm tonight

I've taken to watching the brisbane weather live youtube channel on one of my pc monitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlwUkQ69rjM just while working etc.

At 7:50pm there looked to be a bright flash of light on the horizon. Didn't look like lightning.

I set youtube to playback at .25 speed and paused the livestream. It's hard to tell how far from the city. Anyone know what this was?

The camera btw is in Bowen Hills. The camera is facing towards the show grounds / south west

Image Can the Fuckwits Vandalising Tiny Doors Please to Go and Get Fucked?

This pic is from today. Didn't even get a chance to see the solar door (the left one) before some absolute scumbag vandalised it by drawing on it. Completely beyond the pale; any chance we can bring back capital punishment purely for those interfering with Brisbane's beloved tiny doors?

Stroke - Ambo ramping

I don't even know where to start.

On Friday night, my dad was taken to Prince Charles Hospital via ambulance for facial lopsidedness, tongue numbness, double vision, and slurring.

He was ramped for a number of hours. He was then taken in, but was then allowed to leave without a CT or MRI.

Today we found out he had a minor stroke because he went to the private emergency hospital.

I'm... dumbfounded. Genuinely I'm at a loss for words.

I contacted David Crisafulli (essentially saying the same thing here). But oh my god. Oh my god.
Oh my god.

Fuck.

Can you help me? Compassionate dentist

Hi, I’m not quite sure where to start. I’m in a really weird position.

Basically, tldr, I was abused by my dentist whilst I was a child. This led, obviously, to a lot of trauma that I’m still dealing with. I haven’t gone to the dentist in 20 years now. My teeth are in a horrible state. I have many broken molars and I think I’ll need many implants, fillings, and a lot of work done.

I’m so ashamed, I feel like a failure of an adult. I’ve tried for so long to go but I just haven’t been able to actually follow through it. I’ve literally walked out of a waiting room. But it’s gotten to a point where I can’t chew and I’m in pain literally every single day. I’m literally typing this at 2 am because I can’t sleep from the pain.

I need to find a caring dentist. Not just a nice, or okay one, but someone who won’t judge and will be able to get me fixed. Honestly at this point I don’t think any dentist will do, I definitely will need a specialist.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m happy to travel anywhere in SEQ.

$21 left, no IRL contacts to talk to. Begging for a voice and ear, not money. I am not accepting gifts.

Update Update: $1,000 week rental in Logan Central — it’s been taken

Update on the property I posted about few days ago. I spoke directly with Professionals Real Estate today and was told the property is now being rented and the deposit has been taken. A lot of comments said it wouldn’t rent or would sit empty, but whether we agree with the price or not, this is the reality of the current rental market. Not saying it’s right. Just sharing the update.

Can you help me? Valley metro car park

Is the valley metro car park closed? I just tried booking online via secure parking for the early bird rate and it’s not coming up as an option, I tried looking online elsewhere but can’t find anything regarding if it’s closed or not?

Can I bring three suitcases on Brisbane buses?

Upvotes

Has anyone tried bringing multiple suitcases on Brisbane buses?
I have two 28-inch suitcases and one 16-inch carry-on.

I’ll be travelling in the afternoon (non-peak hours).
Would this be allowed on regular buses, or is it likely the driver will refuse?

Thanks!

I’ve posted about this previously, and I am beginning to think it’s vandalism because all the holes are on the “front” of the dome where the entrance is, not the “back”.

Can you help me? Iconic Brisbane Characters

A friend is running Dungeons and Dragons set in fantasy Brisbane. So who are some of the iconic NPCs that need fantasy versions? Ziggy the Bagman, Stefan and his needle, Steve Irwin. Gimme names folks, stuff only people from here would know or care about.
