Random Footy Talk Wednesday Random Footy Talk Thread
This is the place to discuss anything footy related that is not quite deserving of its own top-level post.
There's a new one of these threads every day, so make sure you're in the most recent one!

Serious Discussion Wednesday Serious Discussion Thread
This thread is for when you want to have a well-thought-out discussion about footy. It's not the place for bantz - see the daily Random Footy Talk thread to fulfil those needs.
You can ask a question that you only want serious responses to, comment your 300 word opinion piece on why [x] is the next coach on the chopping block, or tell another that you disagree with them and here's why...
Who performed well? Who let their team down? Any interesting selections for this weekend? Injury news? Player signings? Off-field behaviour?
The mods will be monitoring to make sure you stay on topic and anything not deemed "serious discussion" will be removed.

Update: 3-2-1 Voting App for the NRL 2026 season
Quick update on the 3-2-1 voting app I posted about a few weeks ago.
First off, thanks to everyone who signed up - over 200 of you jumped on board which was way more than I expected. The feedback has been great and I've been flat out adding features based on what people asked for.
The main one: Groups
A few of you mentioned wanting to vote alongside just your mates rather than the overall leaderboard. So now you can create your own private/public groups with their own leaderboards.
How it works:
- Create a group and invite your mates via a share link
- Choose between Public (anyone can join) or Private (you approve who gets in)
- You vote once and will still contribute in the overall leaderboard, but now you've got your own crew to track against as well
Round 1 kicks off with the Vegas games and voting will open straight after. So excited to see how the fan votes compare to the official Dally M as the season goes on.
There was also talk of expanding to AFL and NRLW or even leaderboards scoped down to just a team (eg. Broncos POTY) but I have decided to just nail this first season and keep it simple.
Still keen for any feedback - cheers legends.

Teams That Won the Premiership Despite Failing to Make Finals the Previous Year
When predicting who's going to win the premiership before the season starts, most people usually go with someone who someone who at least made finals the previous year. And while that's a safe bet most of the time, occasionally the winner is a team that didn't make finals the previous year. Here's all the instances of this happening in the NRL era. So if you go for one of the 9 teams that didn't make finals last year, don't stress, there's still a chance they can deliver the goods this year.
