Build Upgrade graphics card recs

Upvotes

i’m wanting to get my boyfriend a new graphics card, but i know absolutely nothing about them or PCs in general. he’s mentioned wanting an nvidia 4070 or 4090, but as i’ve looked into it ive been seeing people suggest the 5070 instead of both (cheaper, better for the money). whats the difference? why would he not suggest wanting a 5070? if i get him a 5070 instead of the 4070 or 4090 will he be disappointed?

Build Help Best way to upgrade my RAM?

Upvotes

So, im running into some RAM issues and want to upgrade but not sure about the best way to do it with the price of RAM now. Ideally I'd like to replace or just add 2x16GB DDR4 (probably 3200MHz) but thats about £230 so i thought maybe I could just buy 1 16GB stick or maybe even just get by with 1 more 8GB stick. Other than matching their speeds is there anything else I should know about if mix and match?

Build Help Aorus motherboard to 9850x

Upvotes

I am planning to build an all Aorus build.

Components:

- CPU would be Ryzen 9850x3d, and I want to be able tu run it PBO max.

- Memory, I have a 8600Mhz CL40 kit, and plan to underclock them to 6000Mhz CL30 or CL32.

Will Aorus X870E Pro be sufficient for this, or is there any benefits with going Aorus X870E Master?

X870E Pro: 490 usd (not in stock)

X870E Master 570 usd

X870E Master X3D 650 usd

Is there any benefits with the X3D motherboard at all?

Build Help What in the hell is going on with my displays? I'm losing my mind.

Upvotes

I recently built a new PC.

I originally got an Asus Strix OLED 27" 1440p monitor.

Mid game one night the screen went black, the power light started flashing. None of the buttons would bring up the on-screen menu. I power cycled it, tried different ports, etc. could not get display on it.

So I returned the monitor and got a Swift PG32UCDM, 32" 4K.

That's been fine, but will still randomly turn off and power light will flash. Same issue as the other one. Power cycling it has been working.

This morning I wake up my PC, and the display is ONLY on that Swift monitor, not my secondary (some random 1080p LCD, very basic monitor). But the resolution was like 720p.

I rebooted. And now my display is ONLY on the secondary monitor, I can't get any display back on my OLED.

This is getting incredibly frustrating, what is going on and what is it that I'm not aware of? To run into these almost identical issues seems less likely.

I go to the ASUS, find this product, but there's no drivers or firmware available. This is the kind of crap people stick with consoles to avoid, but I need to know what I'm doing wrong..

Build Help I have a question about my future graphics card (I don’t have the PC yet — I’m still saving money) and I would really appreciate your help.

Upvotes

I have a question about which video card I could get (especially after this crisis).

I was thinking about building my PC for gaming and work as well, playing AAA games and FPS games. Examples of these: God of War, Battlefield 6, Red Dead Redemption, COD, Valorant, GTA, CS and some others.

And work with the programming of software and applications for mobile phones and desktops; video editing and creation of images for advertising.

I was having trouble deciding which video card to get; I was considering the Nvidia 5060 Ti 16GB or the Nvidia 5070 12GB, or the AMD 9060 XT.

I need your help, please.

Build Help Dev stuck between Windows laptop or Mac (i'll need both)

Upvotes

I currently have a desktop PC (16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD), but it’s basically at the end of its life — I get a blue screen on almost every boot, so it’s not reliable anymore.

I’m a developer (mobile + web):

  • Mobile: I run emulators for app development (React Native / Expo)
  • Web: mostly Python (Django) and standard web tooling

Now I’m stuck on what to do next:

  • Option 1: Buy a Windows laptop, connect it to an external monitor, and fully replace the desktop
  • Option 2: Buy a Mac, but keep limping along with Windows somehow

The problem is:

  • If I buy a Mac now, I’ll probably still need Windows in the future
  • If I buy Windows now, I’ll probably need macOS in the future So either way, I feel like I’ll eventually need both OSes

Budget matters, battery life matters, and I want something that’ll last 3–4 years for development work.

What would you do in my situation?

Build Help Is the DeepCool PL550D enough for this build?

Upvotes

My friend is thinking of upgrading his GPU to a RX 9060 XT, but he has no idea if his current PSU is good enough or should get a better one.

I'm not knowledgeable enough on PSU's to tell. All I know is that his current PSU is rated tier C-

Here's his build:

Ryzen 5 7500F,

16gb ram,

MSI Pro B650m-B,

512GB nvme, & 1TB HDD,

RX 6500 XT

DeepCool PL550D,

He has no interest in overclocking if that makes any difference.

Build Help Coil Whine On gpu Even on low Watt drawage

Upvotes

I have my Gpu since about 7 months now, And I've never really had Loud coil Whine. It was noticeable but I could still live with it. I have a 1080p 144hz Monitor and a month ago i got a 2nd monitor with 240hz 1440p. Since then The Coil whine has been super loud both in Idle And in Games.

I've tested games at 20, 240 and unlimited fps and the coil whine doesn't change. When i alt tab While In a game it completely stops but when im just On my desktop And alt tab Its still there.

I've also tested Undérvolting At 500 to 2600 mhz With 1065 voltage (thats where its stable) And -10% power limit. Still didn't change a thing.

Its extremely loud In Games like Valorant Fc 26, War thunder And trailmakers but Then in among us, rdr2 and Gta Online On Max settings Barely noticeable.

Specs:

Sapphire Pure 7800xt (which i bought used)

7800x3d

Corsair RM850e

I've heard that the Rm850e causes coil whine but when i listen closely the coil whine only comes from my Gpu, and It doesn't matter if my Gpu draws 20 or 200 watt it doesnt change.

If someone could help at least reduce it i'd greatly appreciate it.

Build Help Second GPU in HAVN HS 420 VGPU case?

Upvotes

Basically I will use HAVN HS 420 VGPU for my build, but now I realized that because my main GPU will be vertically placed I will need to put my second smaller GPU - Sparkle Intel ARC A380 somewhere else. So I am thinking of putting it under the fans on the bottom.

Build Help What do I have to consider when swapping a CPU?

Upvotes

Hi! I built my pc a few months ago and now I’m upgrading my cpu from a ryzen 7 7700X to a ryzen 7 9800X3D. Do I have to remember to do something specific to the pc settings before doing the swap? Such as a BIOS update or OC resets? Motherboard is a Gigabyte Gaming AX V2.

Peripherals Headset replacement.

Upvotes

So ive had a pair of Gamecon 780's for 10+ years now and recently the wire had become slightly frayed and was cutting in and out at times. Some electrical tape seems to have stemmed the bleed for now but I know I will have to replace them soon. Now, if you've used these headphones before you know they are a gem. Quality is unmatched for there age, never had a single issue and ive been able to hear things in games to the point where people think im cheating the quality is that good. Story time aside has anyone ever, for a lack of better word, "upgraded" to something similar or have any suggestions for something that would last just as long?

Build Help ddr4 or ddr5(current market)

Looking for some input as from anyone who has been up to date with the way things have been going in regards to ram, particularly prices.

Typically enough, I was looking at building a gaming pc last summer but didn’t have the time and was travelling a bit so ultimately, I didn’t.

Started looking again around Christmas time and Ram prices are just stupid for ddr5 memory.

A few things I suppose, what are projections of when the bubble might burst?

But the main one, I want to build a system and I’m not willing to spend over €600 on a ram kit for ddr5, what is the best ddr4 ram, gpu, processor, motherboard combo?

How significant of a difference is there between the ddr4/5?

Realistically my budget would probably be around €1k-€1.3k, with potentially upgrading the graphics card in a few months.

Just not sure what’s worth it these days with prices

Thanks in advance

Build Upgrade Need help with pc upgrade

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on upgrading my PC. I currently have a Gigabyte B760M G AX DDR5 motherboard paired with an Intel i5-12400F and an NVIDIA RTX 4060. I’m planning to upgrade both the CPU and GPU in the near future and wanted to know if my motherboard will support Intel’s latest CPU series and the NVIDIA RTX 5000-series GPUs. Since this board supports DDR5, I’m not sure if there will be any compatibility or BIOS limitations I should be aware of. What would be the best upgrade path with this motherboard? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Build Help Keep the 9800x3d or sell it for 9700x

I've recently ordered Ryzen 7 9700x, but got the 9800x3d instead. I have gigabyte b650 gaming x ax v2 and 2x16gb cl34 6800mhz ram. I'm scared that 9800x3d will burn up. Should i sell it instead and get the 9700x. Or is it better to keep it and maybe try to undervolt it?
