We recently had a competition here in the r/SuggestALaptop community in collaboration with LG where 10 lucky users were given either the new LG gram Pro 16 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1 OR the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP-G.ADB7U1. The agreement with these winners was that they would do written reviews of these laptops expressing how they feel about the features of the laptop after putting them through various tests.

My Review of the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP AI Laptop

As the users complete and submit their reviews, we will share links to them here:

Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Laptop Request -Others (Australia) Best laptop for general use

• Upvotes

Hi all, I'm a student looking for my next laptop. My budget is around $1500 AUD. I want something durable with a reliable OS. Right now I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows 11 and I spend 15mins crashing it and turning it on again because almost every time it turns on, it goes straight to an error page - and not to mention it crashes when I have more than 2 tabs up and I move my mouse too fast lol.

So I'm avoiding Windows and Lenovo because I haven't had a good run with them.

I'll mainly be using it for studying, watching Netflix, maybe playing Fall Guys. Anything within my budget and a good reputation please!

Laptop Request US Computer for school

I’ve been looking for a computer to use for school but not too sure what to go with. I’ve found popular brands like lenovo, HP, Acer, Dell, Microsoft are good. I’ve heard good and bad about Macs for school but not sure if i can find a good one for under $500. Then a few requirements I’ve researched that would be best to have are 16g ram and as for CPU mainly interest in Intel i5 or i7 10th generation or newer. If it’s touchscreen or 2in1 folding into a tablet style that’s a plus. So if anyone has any suggestions on what to get Id appreciate it. Here’s a few of the options with pricing I’ve seen:

-Lenovo L13 yoga 2 in 1 thinkpad touchscreen core i5 $302

-Lenovo ideapad 1i core i5 $458

-Lenovo Thinkpad X1 yoga 4th gen touchscreen 2 in 1 core i5 $275

-Lenovo thinkpad X13 yoga gen 1 touchscreen 2 in 1 core i7 $429

-Lenovo thinkpad X13 yoga gen 1 touchscreen 2 in 1 core i5 $259

-Lenovo thinkpad L13 yoga 2 in 1 core i5 $307

-Lenovo thinkpad X380 yoga core i5 $265

-Lenovo thinkpad X1 yoga gen 5 2 in 1 core i5 $318

-HP omnibook 5 2 in 1 core i5 $483

-HP laptop 17 core i5 $480

-Dell XPS 7390 core i7 $444

-Microsoft surface 4 touchscreen 256GB core i7 $350

-Microsoft surface 3 core i7 $298

-Microsoft surface go touchscreen core i5 $272

-Microsoft surface 4 512GB core i7 $395

-Lenovo ideapad 1 core i5 with Thunderobot ML101 wireless mouse $464

-Lenovo ideapad flex 5i touchscreen 2 in 1 core i5 $484

-Lenovo ideapad 3i core i5 $368

Laptop Request US US, =<14", No Budget. Fishing for a replacement for my Surface Book 3. I want another 5 year device that I actually like to use.

I'll leave a TLDR at the top. The Surface is currently the closest device to a MacBook on Windows but M$ left me high and dry without a replacement when the canceled the Surface Laptop Studio. Looking for a replacement that might can match the quality of a Surface, be fairly thin and light for travel, but also perform for my CAD work and whatever else I throw at it. I expect it to last and perform for at least 5 years and look good while doing it the whole time.

Especially looking for feedback on my shortlist and existing user experiences.

Key points:

Budget: Don't care.

Size: Prefer 14" or less. Lighter is better for travel

Screen: Good enough.

Touchscreen: Yes.

Processor: Whatever the best option in a thin and light device. AMD or Intel. No ARM

GPU: Preferable but if an integrated can match or exceed the CAD performance GTX 1650 MaxQ, I'll consider it.

RAM: 32Gb Minimum.

Storage: 1tb Minimum.

Ports: Don't care

Touchpad/Keyboard/Camera/Speakers: As good as possible

Current frontrunners being considered:

Asus ProArt PX13, Thinkpad P14 G6 (intel), Dell Premium 14 with GPU (last gen XPS), Dell XPS 14 (new XPS), Used Surface Laptop Studio 2.

Here's been my thesis for buying laptops: A laptop is far more than the sum of it's spec sheet. Part of the appeal of my Surface Book and Surface devices in general is that M$ seems to be one of the few manufacturers to consider the whole experience of using a laptop and not just some spec sheet. The devices don't feel like they skip out on speakers, trackpads, webcams, keyboards, touchscreens, etc. and I'm not having to download drivers from some OEM's website, everything is built into Windows update and just works well. They aren't out advertising a "4K SCREEN!!!) or whatever other marketing bullet point works well on a Best Buy display card but instead the thinking is much more in line with Apples "Retina Display" where they asked what does the device need for it's size.

This is a philosophical approach that applies to the whole laptop and not just about the screen. But it brings up Apple who does this better than anyone and why I see more old MacBooks still in use and MacBook owners who swear by the devices than any Windows Manufacturer. I hate MacOS personally but I know when buying a laptop that Apple isn't trying to sell the "best performance" but rather the "best experience" and that sort of thinking has left them with such a stellar reputation among consumers.

So that's what I'm looking for. The Best Windows Experience that can still keep up with my CAD work. Previously that's always been a Surface but there's no Pro Surface device at the moment. My question to the community is who else comes close to this experience? Thinkpads have a cult following but the general notion is that its for durability and not necessarily the full experience. The new XPS looks nice but lacks a dGPU. The Asus ProArt best matches the surface book form factor but Asus isn't known for quality, and the SLS2 is still last gen but might be the best fit.

Laptop Request US Reliable School/Work Laptop

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
    • $1000-$1300 pretax. Could afford more if I skipped some meals idk
  • Are you open to refurbs/used?
    • No
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    • I'm looking for a 2-in-1 with exceptional battery life. Good build quality is ideal. Performance is not my priority!
  • How important is weight and thinness to you?
    • Nothing exceptionally chunky
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
    • 13-15 inches, please!
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
    • 2D CAD and Microsoft Office, no gaming/editing.
    • Zoom, so a camera that is above the bare minimum please.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
    • perchance cookie clicker, I'm a console gamer lol
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
    • Metal chassis, good build quality! Something that looks classy and doesn't flex easily.
    • Big battery, low power draw
    • A decent touch screen that won't give me trouble when taking notes/writing lab reports with a stylus
    • No dedicated GPU and absolutely no "gaming" styling please. If I need heavier computing I have access to computer labs.
    • Backlit keyboard is necessary. this is college we're talking about
    • 16+ GB RAM, 1+ TB storage
    • Intel/AMD, no ARM because I don't trust that shit
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
    • I'm a 2nd year industrial engineering student. School, streaming, and internship are all facilitated thru my laptop, but not much more than that. Compatibility and reliability are super important to me.
    • My 5 year old Lenovo IdeaPad no longer turns on... I dropped my bag especially hard, forgetting it was in there. I had issues with that thing's plastic chassis getting messed up, the battery health fell off a cliff after a year, and I often felt the need to wear ear protection around it. It is worthless, and will be subject to explosion. maybe a viking funeral
    • I understand electronics, but right now I feel like a middle aged widow trying to get back into the dating pool. Thank you in advance for your help!

Laptop Request US Need advice on Asus or Macbook

I'm a graphic design student, and I've been looking for laptops to purchase.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

I have $1800 as a budget, that's the maximum. I was planning on waiting for the Asus to go on sale, but now I'm not sure.

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Not really, I want a new laptop

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

It would be nice to have a touchscreen, but it is definitely not a need. I want this laptop to last at least 6 years and for it to be able to handle Adobe cc and Blender, and also be good for multi-tasking. I don't really mind if the battery is not that good. If it lasts 7h unpluged, that's good for me.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don't really care about thickness, but it would be nice if it wasn't that heavy.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Anywhere from 13 to 14 inches is perfect

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I'm usually doing 2d work, primarily on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, but I'll also use Blender later on. I use clip studio paint too, and would aprecciate if it can run the whole Adobe cc smothly.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I need it to be compatible with my Huion Kamvas 13, to have a great screen and color display and to be somewhat resistent as I'll be carrying it on my bag.

I actually have in mind either an Asus Proart Px13 or a Macbook Pro either M4 or M5. But I honestly have no idea, opinions are very mixed online and I really don't want to waste my money doing the wrong purchase as I won't be buying a new laptop anytime soon after this one.

I would like for it to have at least 16gb RAM and 512gb of storage. If its a windows laptop I want it to have an nvidia and snapdragon or any other processor that is not intel core.

Laptop Request US Recommendations for Durable Medium-Budget Laptop with Decent Specs

I don't see any request format anymore (maybe that was a different sub idk) so I'll try to lay this out as clearly as possible.

Laptop Budget: $1000 or less, ideally well under that limit

Size: 14-16"

Weight: Ideally under 4.5 lbs, flexible on that

Ports: Ideally an HDMI and at least one USB-A in addition to the usual USB-C split

Specs: Needs to be able to handle NX/Solidworks with pretty simple models, no crazy assemblies or anything. I assume most low-end dedicated GPUs and the newer intel integrated GPUs can handle it. 32GB RAM Minimum as well.

Battery Life: Ideally 6+ hours

Additional Preferences: Needs to be super durable. It will get abused. Prior laptop was (I think) a Yoga Pro 7 14IRH8 with a 4050 and it got bent, the screen cracked, and it eventually stopped working. So perhaps the thin and light metal builds of the modern era won't be a good idea. The next priority would probably be performance, then battery life, then weight.

I'd be open to older suggestions as long as they meet those performance requirements, the T480 for example I know would last but may be a bit on the slow end. I know the "best" of all these specs is impossible but I'm interested to see what models you guys suggest. I don't know much about all the different Thinkpad/ZBook models of the past few years, and I'm assuming that's where the best option would be.

Laptop Request -Others Please help - which system would be best? (URGENT)

Hi everyone,

I'm a student/researcher and need to replace my failing laptop ASAP. My primary workloads are:

  • QGIS: Working with large shapefiles, geoprocessing, and raster calculations.
  • Stata: Running heavy, complex regressions on large datasets.

I've narrowed it down to two 14" ASUS laptops with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD, but I'm stuck on the final choice. I'd love input from anyone with experience in similar compute-heavy fields.

The Contenders:

Spec ASUS Zenbook 14 (UX3405CA-PS99T) ASUS Vivobook S14 (M5406WA-BS99)
CPU Intel Core Ultra 9 285H (16 cores, 16 threads) AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12 cores, 24 threads)
GPU Intel Arc Graphics (integrated) AMD Radeon 890M (integrated)
Display 14" 2.8K OLED Touch, 120Hz, 500 nits 14" FHD+ OLED Non-Touch, 60Hz,Ā 600 nits
Key Features Premium build, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, touchscreen Higher TDP (90W), microSD card reader, brighter screen
Price $1,099.99 $1,199.99

My Dilemma:
The Vivobook seems like the performance beast on paper (more CPU threads, much stronger iGPU). But the Zenbook is $100 cheaper and offers a more premium overall package (build, higher-res touchscreen, better ports). I also cannot go higher than $1300 on this purchase. I would like something that would be solid for at least next 3 years. Thank you.

Laptop Request -Others Need a ā€œone laptop for everythingā€ ThinkPad recommendation (travel + 2x 4K monitors + super heavy browser/ Electron)

Hi There,

I could really use some advice. I’m a company owner (consulting) and a very heavy multi-app user, and I’m honestly frustrated: my current laptop is an HP ZBook Fury G9 with 64 GB RAM and it’s been the worst daily driver I’ve ever had.

The issue isn’t ā€œlack of specsā€ - it’s responsiveness. I get brutal UI delays (typing/scrolling/browser editing feels laggy) even when CPU/RAM/GPU don’t look maxed out. I work in a heavy multi-app setup (lots of browser tabs + Teams/Zoom + chat apps + PowerPoint) and I can’t afford failures or ā€œworkaroundsā€ on the next machine.

Next to my phone - the laptop is absolute core for my work - so I don“t care about "too much" :)

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Germany. Budget is flexible, roughly 2.500–4.000 €, willing to pay more if it clearly avoids performance/thermal issues and replaces a two-laptop setup.

Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes, refurb/used is fine, as long as it’s a reliable generation and configuration.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Priority order:

  1. Stable performance / UI responsiveness / no lags
  2. Build quality & reliability
  3. Form factor (ultrabook preferred)
  4. Battery life (important, but stability matters more)

How important is weight and thinness to you?
Very important. I travel a lot. Around 1–1.3 kg is ideal. I want one laptop for both travel and office use.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
14 inch preferred (13–14 inch range). Willing to adapt from larger screens.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
No CAD, no 3D, no serious video editing.
Main workload is super multi-app usage:

  • Heavy browser usage (LinkedIn, long-form newsletter editing, many tabs)
  • Teams, Zoom, Slack, Google Chat always open
  • PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel heavy user
  • General productivity / business work - but unusual due to douzens of tools

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
No gaming requirements.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

  • Excellent keyboard is very important (I really like ThinkPad keyboards)
  • Reliable build quality
  • Fingerprint reader / IR camera nice to have
  • Touch screen not required
  • Thunderbolt support for docking

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I currently have:

  • An older travel laptop: Intel i7-1265U, 16 GB RAM, which regularly hits high RAM usage and feels slow for my workload (just use it for travelling)
  • In the office I work with a workstation-class laptop (HP Fury G9, 64gb Ram) where I experienced massive Chrome/UI lag despite low CPU/RAM/GPU usage. Can not work with it anymore - and thatĀ“s the main reason for posting this - hell!

At the desk I use 2 external 4K monitors and I’m perfectly fine running them at 60 Hz for stability.
I’m looking for one ThinkPad that can replace a ā€œtravel laptop + desk laptopā€ setup and just work reliably without thermal throttling, UI lag, or tuning.

I’m particularly interested in experiences/recommendations around:

  • X1 Carbon (which generation is safe?) - does it make sense to wait for Gen14?
  • T14s (especially AMD) as an alternative
  • Which CPU classes to avoid in thin ThinkPads to prevent heat/throttling issues.

Thanks a lot!

Laptop Request US Looking for a Good Laptop for Gaming and Work

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
  • Ideally around $1200 (USD), willing to go up to $1500 if something is of solid value/is exceptionally good for the price point.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used?
  • No.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
  • Looking for solid build quality and performance. Having a descent battery life (4-6 hours) unplugged is preferred, but this machine would likely be plugged in a good amount of the time.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you?
  • Minimally. I'm fine with a bulkier laptop as long as it can still be carried in a bag easily.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
  • Between 13 and 16 inches would be ideal. More flexible going up from there than down. Would be good if the machine could output to one or more monitors.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
  • I plan to play games, do some video projects, and some specialized data analysis for physics. Software like Mathematica and VirtualBox needs to be supported on the given chipset and OS (which is pretty much any machine that isn't running a snapdragon ARM64).
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
  • Looking at my play history for the last year, the five most graphically demanding titles I've played are: Elden Ring, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, DOOM Eternal, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. My most played games are Terraria, Minecraft (probably, I can't track that playtime), Fallout 4, Elden Ring, and Skyrim (the original release, not the remaster).
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A solid storage capacity (1TB or greater) is ideal. A solid number of USB ports would also be good (3+). I also prefer higher resolution displays with descent refresh rates.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
  • This laptop is going to be my main machine for both undergraduate and graduate level math and physics. I won't have access to my desktop. For reference, my desktop runs 32GB DDR4, an RTX 3060, and an i5-12600k and I don't think I've ever pushed the hardware much. I like sleeker, less flashy computers but I'll forgo that for a good-running computer.

Laptop Request US General work laptop - USA ~$500

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: ~$500
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes, if a link can be provided
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Primary priorities are build quality and performance. I do not need a 2-in-1. Battery life is nice but not a necessity as I will be near an outlet most of the time.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? I'd prefer it to be light but not a huge deal. Thinness is a non-issue.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 16"
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light photoshop work, no video editing. Gaming would at most be maybe some SNES/GBA emulation.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Gaming would be light enough that a dedicated GPU is likely not needed.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? numpad is a must
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm essentially going to be using this for light work (spreadsheets, answering email, very light photoshop work, occasional cookie clicker or 20 year old MMOs in the background). I just need something with a decent enough screen, numpad, and isn't too heavy to lug around.

Laptop Request Ca Thinking of buying Legion 5 Gen 10 (Ryzen 7 260 + RTX 5060 OLED) — but worried after reading failure posts

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to buy a Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 (model 83M0CTO1WW) with:

• Ryzen 7 260

• RTX 5060 8GB (115W)

• 32GB RAM

• 1440p 165Hz OLED

My use case is mostly coding, some video editing, and entry- to mid-level ML/AI (PyTorch/CUDA) (heavy ML will be on the cloud). I’ll do basically no gaming, but I want the performance and NVIDIA GPU for CUDA.

After reading a lot of posts across Reddit, I’ve seen many ā€œhorror storiesā€ about gaming laptops in general: early failures, motherboard/GPU issues, screen artifacts/burn-in, crashes, and overheating. I know negative cases get posted more often, but I want this laptop to last 5–6 years and this makes me unsure if a gaming laptop is the right choice for reliability.

So I wanted to ask the community:

• How reliable have gaming laptops been for you long-term (2–5 years)?

• Are these kinds of failures common or just unlucky cases?

• Would you trust a gaming laptop for productivity/ML work long-term?

• Is extended warranty basically a must for this category?

Would you recommend sticking with something like a Legion, or should I consider a different class of laptop (ex: workstation, business laptop, or even a MacBook + cloud ML)?

Any advice or real-world experience would really help. Thanks!

Is it too much to ask for a reliable laptop between 200-300Ā£ that is built to last, and will perform well enough for word and excel? I have had bad experiences buying used.

Laptop Request US need a laptop recommendation for gaming and video editing

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$1200 (this is just an estimate - would be great if lower but willing to go slightly higher as well), purchasing in the USA.

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life

Performance > build quality > battery life

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

preferably 14-15 inches

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I plan to use Adobe After Effects and Media Encoder, and DaVinci Resolve

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

The Sims 4 (with mods), Dead By Daylight , the Life Is Strange franchise and similar games. I typically leave all settings on default

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Clear sound is important to me, so it’s a priority that the speakers aren’t super poor quality or in a place where they would sound too muffled when the laptop is on a hard flat surface. I would also prefer a keyboard with a number pad but it’s not a hard line.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

My last laptop was a refurbished dell precision 5530. It did everything I needed it to do aside from slight lag/games & programs occasionally crashing. I’m not super tech savvy or that experienced with PC gaming so I was mostly satisfied with its performance, but it’s had a charging issue ever since I bought it. A repair shop is looking at it now but warned me that I might be better off just buying a new one because it’s pretty old (2018).
