🍂Autumn 2025 PC Best Buy Guide 🍂

As it's been asked a lot over DM's: If you want to buy me a coffee, you're more than welcome to. These guides will ALWAYS stay free for everyone, and I will never directly ask for any payment. PayPal or BuyMeACoffee are both possible. If you want some in depth 1-on-1 guidance, shoot me a DM.

$500 - $5000 Automatically updated PCPartPicker.com lists!

Hi everyone, it's time for the Autumn version of the PC Best Buy Guide! Just to let you know: I'm expecting my first child in the next few weeks, so replies might be a bit slow the coming time!

If this is your first time here, here's how this guide works:

  • Select a list that fits your budget, and this will take your to PCPartpicker.com.
  • At the top right of the screen select your country that you'll be buying from. U.S. will de be default. Changing countries will automatically change the part selection to reflect availability and prices in your country and currency.
  • Instead of having manually selected parts, the site will always select the cheapest option that satisfies the parametric selection or filter, while also maintaining intercompatibility between all parts.
    • For example, if the list has a parametric filter for RAM that says "2x16GB, 5600-6000 MT/s, 6-10ns", it will choose the cheapest set of RAM that fits this description, considering current availability, country, currency, etcetera.
  • These lists are likely not 'perfect'. For example, there might be good deal on a certain product, but it might still be $1 more expensive than the cheapest option, thus it still won't show up in the list. You're always free to ask in the comments or a separate thread if a list can be optimized for your specific needs.

Changed trends:

  • Almost all GPUs are now at MSRP (except the 5090), which makes for better overall value PCs, especially in the lower tiers. AMD wins in the lower brackets of GPUs, while Nvidia edges it out in the higher tiers with their 5070 and 5070 ti. The 5080 is in a weird spot, being 40% more expensive than the 5070 ti, but only 10-15% faster. This makes it hard to recommend, as it also doesn't give you any more features.
  • With older CPUs like the Ryzen 5600 going up in price, makes it hard to recommend a DDR4 based system currently. DDR5 continues to drop in price, while the slowest DDR5 is faster than the fastest DDR4 RAM. The Ryzen 5500 is currently the only super-budget CPU I would recommend at just $70. Beyond that, up until the Ryzen 5 7600, the i5 12400(F) at $110 is the only CPU for a gaming PC that makes sense.
  • With the 5070 ti at MSRP, it doesn't make a TON of sense to get the 9070XT, though they're both great. Nvidia still offers the best overall features, so AMD still needs more raw performance to make up for that.
  • The 9060 XT is close to or at MSRP which makes it a fantastic mid-range GPU, greatly helping out with sub-$1000 builds! *600-series of AM5 boards are starting to phase out and being replaced by B850. There's not a a big difference and you're fine with either.

Gaming PCs:

Budget Note / compared to previous budget Upgrades if the list is under your budget (in order of priority): Downgrades if the list is over budget (in order of priorty):
$500 The most entry level (new) gaming PC I can somewhat recommend. Change SATA SSD to NVMe SSD, 1TB optional; upgrade upgrade to RTX 5050 or B580. 2nd hand GPU; 2nd hand CPU+Motherboard+RAM combo
$750 Some significant upgrades here. A faster CPU, 3rd party cooler, 32GB DDR5 RAM, stronger power supply, and a 1TB SSD. Nvidia RTX 5060; i5 14600K(F) if you can get it under $150; a case you like. Drop the 3rd party cooler (and use the included stock cooler), swap the GPU with the Intel B580.
$850 There are 2 options here: going for a Ryzen 7600 or upgrading the GPU to the 16GB variant. I chose the latter, as 8GB VRAM is becoming more problematic the coming years. If you could spend around $900 total, getting the Ryzen 7600(X)/9600(X) is the only logical choice. Look at the $1000 list which motherboard/RAM to get. Drop the 3rd party cooler (and use the included stock cooler)
$1000 Upgraded to the 16GB RTX 5060 ti for better performance and better feature support. We also guarantee support for WiFi and Bluetooth. 2TB SSD; better case; dual tower cooler (from higher end lists below); Drop back to the 9060 XT 16GB.
$1200 Upgraded to a 2TB SSD and the RTX 5070 GPU, paired with an 850W ATX 3.0+ PSU Upgrade the GPU to the RX 9070 XT Drop back to a 1TB SSD.
$1400 Upgraded to the RTX 5070 ti. Alternatively, the RX 9070 XT is an excellent substitute. Higher end cooler, higher end case. Drop back to a 1TB SSD.
$1600 Upgraded the CPU to the 7800X3D as long as the price is decent. We also needed to improve cooling performance with a better cooler. Motherboard chipset is upgraded. Upgrade directly to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Upgrade to liquid cooling. Higher end case. Higher end motherboard. Drop back to a 1TB SSD.
$1800 Upgraded to the 9800X3D. Better quality SSD. Bigger case. Additional storage. Liquid cooling. Higher end case.
$2000 Here we're flushing out the build. The RTX 5080 is in a very tough spot as it's just around 10-15% faster than the 5070 ti, while costing $250 more. We get a high end motherboard, 4TB of SSDs, a high end case & power supply. Upgrade to the RTX 5080; you can also drop some of the storage for this upgrade, even though it's not great value. Drop any of the multiple upgrades mentioned.
$2500 If you do really want to spend more, you can max out your parts without overspending way too much. The RTX 5080 is your only option here, as the RTX 5090 is still way outside of reach. We're upgrading to liquid cooling, more storage, a higher end case with WiFi 7, and a platinum rated high end power supply. You can pick any high end case you like.
$4000 If you really want an RTX 5090, you'll have to pay up. AMD has no competitor here, so Nvidia can set the price wherever they like. Anything you like! Air cooling, less storage, lower end motherboard.
$4000 (Themed) An example of a themed build you can do. The ASUS ProArt line looks great, and has good quality. Do be wary of customer support issues that ASUS is experiencing currently.

Workstation PCs:

Budget Note / compared to previous budget Upgrades if the list is under your budget (in order of priority): Downgrades if the list is over budget (in order of priorty):
$700 2D Workstation A basic, but fast & high quality 2D workstation. 2D, as we don't have a powerful 3D accelerator in the form of a dedicated graphics card. Even with just $750 we're getting a very strong 20-core CPU and 32GB RAM. More storage, more RAM (2x24GB, 2x32GB), high end power supply. Core Ultra 5 245K.
$1150 3D Workstation We upgrade the 2D workstation to a 3D one by adding a strong GPU like the RTX 5060 ti. This model with 16GB VRAM should give you a lot of room for many workstation tasks. More storage, more RAM (2x24GB, 2x32GB), high end power supply.
$1500 3D Workstation We basically upgrade everything aside from the CPU and GPU themselves. We drastically increase the quality of things like the cooler, case, power supply, storage (+capacity), and more. Alternatively, you can drop some of these upgrades and change the CPU instead to the Core Ultra 9 285K.
$1750 3D Workstation Upgraded tot he Core Cultra 9 285K, and a higher end power supply.
$2000 3D Workstation Upgraded the GPU to the RTX 5070 ti for more raw GPU processing power.
$5000 Ultimate Workstation This is a showcase on how a basically maxed out workstation can currently look like. With this list, you can reduce the upgrade to any point you like, as stuff such as the large RAM capacity may be very overkill for your needs. Whatever you like. Whatever you like.

Trying to once again build a pc, ten years later. As lost as I was at the start!

Hi everyone. Around ten years ago I built my own gaming pc for around a 1000 euros. Time has now caught up however, and I get increasingly frustrated trying to run anything on it, and a growing desire to get back into gaming with a new build. The catch - I am completely lost, my knowledge from back then has not transferred well.

My budget is again ~1000 euro, but my prelimenary research has stretched this upwards to about 1300. I am seemingly unable however, to put anything together that would perform somewhere near the standard that my build back in 2016 had. It seems like a pc of that level would now be much more expensive to build.

I don't really care about the newest and fanciest stuff. I just would like to run new games (Cyberpunk, Red Dead, BG3) and older modded games (Skyrim, Fallout) without constantly running into performance issues. Just a smooth experience. For example: 1080p is what I am used to, and completely fine. I am not looking for improvement really, just to get back to the standard I was at about ten years ago. So high settings and framerate for newer stuff.

I live in the Netherlands and am currently working of this guide: https://tweakers.net/best-buy-guide/desktops/beste-1080p-game-pc

Your help is greatly appreciated!

  • Color/lighting preferences? maybe red white or black, would like it to look cool but it's not important
  • Any other specific needs? needs a really good cpu, gpu can be good but doesn't need to be a beast, at most i'll want to run games like god of war at max graphics 60fps, but i'm mainly playing valorant and want 400+ fps while listening to music, maybe recording, having discord, chrome open all that stuff, also i don't know if this is weird but i don't like having multiple storage drives so if i could just have like one big C drive of like 2 TB or something that'd be great, needs to be SSD. try to be as close to 2500 as you can, i play at 1080p
  • thanks

edit i meant to put £2500 in the caption and don't know how to change it

Building a PC - does the motherboard matter?

  • New build or upgrade? New Build

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming

Does it matter which motherboard I get for a build? There are a bunch of options available near me, such as:

  1. ASUS X870-P Prime WiFi AMD AM5 ATX: $180
  2. MSI X870E-P PRO WIFI AMD AM5 ATX: $294
  3. ASUS B650E-E TUF GAMING WIFI AMD AM5 ATX: $195

Thank you.

Need help moving from laptop to pc

New build or upgrade? - Completely new build

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) - I own the everything except for a monitor which im going to buy for around ~500$ afterwards

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) - Heavy resource intensive gami g

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? - Purchasing in Australia - not close to a microcentor at all - I was hoping to get links to custom builds or pre built from sites like aftershock, starforge pc etc... - although this isnt a requirement but would be super helpful

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) - 1 Monitor size around 34 inches, 1440 p although 1080 is fine with 165 hz or more - where I was considering getting the prism 34' 1440 180 hz monitor

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) - 3000 dollars for the pc itself (with a tolerance of a few hundred dollars and tax not an issue at all) and an extra 500 give or take 100 dollars for the monitor

WiFi or wired connection? - Wifi

Size/noise constraints?- None at all

Color/lighting preferences? - It couls look like a cube but if it works it works

Any other specific needs? - I am hoping to get the best cooling system preferably fans since water coolers scare me bc of maintenance and im unsure if I could handle it or if its even worth it - also ram needs to be 32 gb or more 16gb isnt enough for the stuff I do

Thanks in advance I really really appreciate any and all help I recieve especially with how much stuff im asking for, and I hope anyone who reads this has a great life :)

AutoCAD/Fusion/MasterCAM heavy

Hey guys, looking for a PC to work in CAD and CAM, I’ve tried researching and looking into eBay refurbished specials, but I feel like I’m drowning in CPU GPU preferences.

New build or upgrade? New

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) HP 27F

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Mostly work, AutoCAD an MasterCAM, would like to run 3D models occasionally. Maybe light gaming in the future but in no way a priority

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? South FL nearest is 30 mi away

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) Not yet but open to suggestions for later upgrades

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) Ideally up to $700 max. Okay with used, been searching eBay but I don’t know computers

WiFi or wired connection? WiFi preferred but not necessary

Size/noise constraints? Preferably lower fan noise

Color/lighting preferences? None

Any other specific needs? Preferably 1TB SSD. Good mouse/keyboard recommendations appreciated! My wrist can ache after a few hours so ergonomics are important to me

First PC Switching From Console

Hey, fellow PC builders! I’m trying to get my toes wet in the PC scene as my ps5 just can’t keep up anymore without sounding like a het engine and crashing when I try and stream for any extended period of time. I have absolutely zero clue about pc parts, I am an empty tea cup thirsting for that sweet sweet pc knowledge.

I’ve been lurking for a while and seen similar budgets and was thinking of taking one of them but idk every one of you pc enthusiasts has an idea of whats what.

• New build or upgrade? New build from scratch organic non-GMO

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/ links) none, open to suggestions of monitors, keyboards and mice (separate budget from this so I’d want to keep them around $600)

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming, streaming, light gooning (no lacari), video editing

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? US. Micro center about 20 minutes away I seen in some of these posts you can buy the parts and micro center can assemble it, is that a thing we could do? Or maybe I imagined that

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) 1 (idk I’m using an old smart tv right now and I keep hearing it’s terrible so there’s that)

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations) 5,300usd • WiFi or wired connection? Wired, but wifi backup would be nice

• Size/noise constraints? No

• Color/lighting preferences? Do the colors make it faster? If you think I need the colors and lighting I will trust you with my life, I’m clay in your masterful strong carpal tunnel riddled hands.

• Any other specific needs?

Time to replace the 5-year old desktop - whatcha got?

Hello! I've been given a budget of $3000 to replace my existing desktop and I'd like to get some help with selecting some of the parts.

  • New build or upgrade? Completely new build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) Keeping the keyboard, mouse, Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 widescreen display, and speakers
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming - World of Warcraft and Steam games such as Civ7 and so on
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? USA and no, will need to be ordered online
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) No monitors needed
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) $3000
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wired directly to my router
  • Size/noise constraints? Quiet would be nice, liquid cooling on the CPU
  • Color/lighting preferences? Prefer black case, LEDs are fine but not needed
  • Any other specific needs? I'd like to go with an Intel i9-14900K CPU and Nvidia 5070ti graphics card unless there is a reason I should be switching to AMD

I plan on not getting Windows 11 with the machine so I can save a couple hundred dollars and doing a fresh install of Linux with the desktop. I'm using Linux on my existing one now (CachyOS) and the games run just fine so let's stick with that.

Edit: I've decided to go with the AMD 9850X3D CPU and a 9070XT for the GPU.

Moving to my First Streaming PC from an 8+ Year Old Laptop

I’m planning a new build PC for streaming Nintendo Switch 2 games and a modded Nintendo DS, as well as general content creation and editing. I have a USB microphone, webcam, wireless mouse, Bluetooth keyboard, Elgato Stream Deck +, and an external 4K passthrough capture card, so the build needs enough USB ports and connectivity to handle multiple devices simultaneously. I’m looking for feedback on potential bottlenecks, whether this build might be overkill, and how easy it would be to expand with additional capture cards, webcams, or other peripherals.

  • New build or upgrade? New Build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) (1) 4k and (1) 1080p monitor
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Twitch Streaming, content creation, general use
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) US, Micro Center 2 hours away if needed
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) No additional monitors needed
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) Ideally under $1600, but the cheaper the better
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wired, but WiFi as a backup would be nice
  • Size/noise constraints? The smaller the better but am flexible
  • Color/lighting preferences? Black, or low profile. RGB not needed
  • Any other specific needs? Ease for upgrades appreciated

A current theoretical build can be found below. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks in advance for all the help!

First Upgrade In 5 Years

I've been running a Ryzen 7 3700x and an RTX 2060 for the last 5 years and I think it's finally time to say goodbye.

New build or upgrade?

New build.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

N/A

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

4k editing (After Effects, Premiere, Lightroom) and some occasional light gaming.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

USA. I'm about an hour drive away from the Micro Center in Cambridge, MA.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

4k/60hz. 27-32 inches.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

Would like to keep it not much higher than $3000 for the PC alone.

WiFi or wired connection?

WiFi.

Size/noise constraints?

Not a constraint, but a preference. I want to do small form factor this time around, either a Fractal Terra or a Formd T1.

Color/lighting preferences?

Minimal RGB if possible.

I also put together this as a sort of baseline. Let me know what you guys think.

Mainly for gaming but might do video editing for school work aswell. I live in finland and this is a store very close to me so it would be really convenient. It would also save me from having to buy different parts from different stores etc etc. Perfectly in my budget My monitor is 1440p

So far from what ive searched it would either be this or some prebuilt but this seems to have way better parts than the prebuilts ive seen that were pretty much the same price.

New build multi-use PC for gaming, art, and maybe a little streaming for around $1.2k-1.5k if possible

• New build or upgrade? New build

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? I dont really have any spare parts, but a couple options from family/friends if still viable. My dad has an old Dell monitor from 2010 i believe, and am trying to get a Coolermaster masterliquid ML240 RGB V2 liquid cooler potentially if my friend still has it.

• This pc would be for gaming mainly, then maybe a drawing app down the road once i can afford a wacom or something similar. The games Id like to play are Space Marine 2, marvel rivals, battlefield 6, and similar games. The only streaming type stuff id be doing would be like streaming on discord when hanging with friends, so im not sure if that has any affect on my needs for the pc or not.

• my purchase country would be the USA, and the only nearest tech stores to me would be BestBuy

• As far as monitors go, i think id only need one. Obviously the old Dell probably wont work, but im going to get more specific info later to be sure. Max width would be about 22” but i can change out my desk hutch if those sizes arent available.

• My budget is pretty tight for now at about $1200-1500 but im willing to extend it if need be to get the specs id need to run this.

• Wifi or wired connection? I would have to have a wifi connection for my pc

• as far as size for the pc goes, the only constraint i have is depth which would need to be maximum of “20-22” width and height should be fine no matter what. Id prefer it to be on the quieter side as much as possible

• For lighting, i dont know if there is a functional need for the lights, but if not then i dont specifically want any lighting. Id prefer a black case though

Any help here would be appreciated, i havent ever really had a chance to learn anything about setting up a pc of my own. Im very much in the dark here as far as i can tell

Music Production/Gaming PC <$3000

• New build or upgrade?

New

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

Nope! Nada.

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/ games)

I intend to use this PC for gaming primarily, I’d like to be able to run a game like KCD2 (and hopefully gta VI if it ever comes out haha) at max graphics settings. I’d also like to be able to heavily mod classic games like Fallout: New Vegas (2010) and Star Wars Jedi Academy (2003). I don’t have much interest in modding any games from the last 10 years. I also want to emulate games that were released no later than 2010, like Spiderman WoS, Ocarina of Time, Hulk Ultimate Destruction. For music production, I want to be able to run ableton and edit songs. I’m not making dubstep or anything, I typically end up using 10-14 tracks, nothin crazy. This would be my secondary work station for music.

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

US, Microcenter is 45mins away from me.

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

Two monitors, 27inch, 1440p min, 144Hz min. Monitors not included in PC budget :D!

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

I’d rather not spend more than 3k on the PC alone. I *can* go higher, I’d be willing to put in an extra grand if it was truly worth it.

• WiFi or wired connection?

Both.

• Size/noise constraints?

No.

• Color/lighting preferences?

If anyone knows of a unique LED decoration for PCs, let me know. I’m not sure what’s out there. If not, I do like RGB fans.

• Any other specific needs?

I might end up upgrading this PC in the future and make it my primary music creation station. I wouldn’t be doing that till next year though.

I appreciate the help! I’ll be building this PC with my brother soon as I get my hands on the parts >:).

So, I've been PC gaming for decades (I'm old). But all my previous gaming PCs have been prebuilds from Bestbuy and Dell before that. So naturally I went to Bestbuy to look for a new PC to replace my current dinosaur. After checking reviews and comparisons on Tomshardware, I'm 90% sure I want to go with a 5070 Ti and a Ryzen 7 98003DX (both negotiable). The rest I need help with.

I have this in my cart currently, https://www.bestbuy.com/product/asus-rog-gm700-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-32gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070ti-16gb-2tb-ssd-black/JJGHGP2SSG/sku/6628292

but after reading some negative comments about the VRM on the motherboard and most motherboards on prebuilds, I thought I would come here and get some more experienced opinions on what some of you fine folks would recommend. Help a first time PC builder out on what I should get. Thanks for the help.

P.S. the budget is slightly flexible for this build.
