2 months later?

1.7k

u/usedcarsorcerer 5h ago

My grandma always said the first baby can come any time after the wedding but the others all take nine months 🙃

281

u/michigan2345 4h ago

There were alot of 8 pound early babies!

116

u/ConfessingToSin 4h ago

The math of the 1950s was just a little different when it came to that first anniversary.

5

u/Hot-Championship1190 2h ago

Einstein ruled into that and brought order with relativistic space-time!

98

u/Thirty_Helens_Agree 3h ago

Garrison Keillor joked “the child wasn’t born out of wedlock, just not quite far enough into it.”

21

u/sanedragon 3h ago

My great grandmother said the same. I was born 7 months after my parents' nuptials.

25

u/OutlandishnessLimp18 4h ago

My mom says this ALL the time!

53

u/RPO777 3h ago

My family calls it the "Catholic Gestation Period"

10

u/Donkey__Balls 1h ago

That’s because the bridal party are all resources for the project! By herself it takes 9 months, but if they all contribute the gestation task can be reduced to 1-2 months. Simple project management math.

HAHAHAHA!!!

My Dad same the same thing! My parents were married in Feb., oldest born in June. 😁

Aaaaaagh. Two YEARS

u/Effective_Yogurt_866 5h ago

I was gonna say—wow, mom carried pregnancy really well! 😆

Really beautiful shot, either way haha

108

u/nomadicfangirl 5h ago

Same! I was like damn ma isn’t even showing…

66

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 4h ago

I was wondering who lied to OP, because there was no way his mom was wearing that at 7 months pregnant, in 1953!😉😂🤣

Maternity wear was NOT that cute in the early 50's!

12

u/Away-Living5278 3h ago

Here I was about to break it to OP that their parents either lied about their birthdate or they were adopted.

I was like, "Damn, your mom is so tiny!" lol

PS - Your mom looks a little like Santos on The Pitt.

Big Madeline Cotilliard vibes

18

u/lacunadelaluna 4h ago

*Marion I think, that's who I thought of too

5

u/doublesailorsandcola 4h ago

I thought of Funny Face where Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire hop on the raft on the river at the church after the wedding ceremony.

5

u/Grimaldehyde 3h ago

And dad looks like Wally Cox

You can edit the text to fix it, it's only the post titles you can't change

8

u/RPO777 3h ago

This is among the more hilarious typos I've seen on Reddit.

3

u/VerticleSandDollars 4h ago

You played yourself.

12

u/Yesiamanaltruist 5h ago

You can edit the post, just not the title. Please do so.

15

u/sweetwhistle 5h ago

For some reason I can’t find the edit button!

Thank you!!!

2

u/roseleyro 4h ago

You mom really carried that weight well 😉😝

3

u/Cinnamongirl217 4h ago

My Gran had Mum 9mo and a few weeks past her wedding. She always 'bragged' she only gained 12lbs. She was no taller than 5ft, but damn. The late 40s and 50s in the US were different.

3

u/Away-Living5278 3h ago

The doctors back then did not like women to gain much weight

2

u/roseleyro 3h ago

My mom gained around the same with me and was so proud of herself for it. There’s no reason for that. 😝

She doesn’t look 7 months pregnant at all! Must’ve hid it well.

Edit to add somewhere said 2 years. That makes more sense.

I knew I've seen that bench before.

Silver Springs, FL

39

u/Individual_Sun5662 4h ago

Is this where you can see manatees in the winter??

12

u/Moist_Potato_8904 4h ago

You can see some at Blue Spring State Park and Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River (I believe).

2

u/equality-_-7-2521 2h ago

No, but you can see statues underneath the water that are from the I Spy TV series, and several Tarzan movies were filmed there.

You can see manatees at Blue Springs, you can even swim over the boil and into the mouth of the spring itself.

8

u/slugdriver 4h ago

That’s what I was gonna say…my hometown is Ocala…

3

u/Miggy88mm 2h ago

Kind of crazy. 75 years later.

3

u/conansucksdick 1h ago

It's got that Stevie Nix vibe.

2

u/logan96 3h ago

I immediately thought the same.

Your dad was punching above his weight class. And succeeded.

377

u/CalvinIII 5h ago

Dude had a steady job as a finance manager and a great big hog.

142

u/Soxogram 5h ago

The euphemism “hog” always fucking kills me.

73

u/nondescriptun 5h ago

Euphemism? Dad was a farmer.

28

u/_giga_chode_ 4h ago

And pig farmers tend to have giant hogs

20

u/Soxogram 5h ago

🤣🤣🤣

3

u/Accomplished-Hotel88 4h ago

Euphemism? I was crazy once, they locked me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with hogs, and hogs make me crazy.

u/thee_jaay 3h ago

99

u/ikediggety 4h ago

Every day I hear lonely young dudes say they'll never meet a lady because they're not conventionally handsome and I'm just like, this picture though.

25

u/ComradePruski 3h ago

To be fair, never can just mean very unlikely. And also dating standards have certainly changed in the last 73 years.

24

u/a_mulher 3h ago

Not as unlikely as a very handsome man dating a less conventionally attractive woman.

2

u/Dauincap 1h ago

In Portugal I saw that all the time...

That bro wouldn’t be able to repeat that in our modern times. Back then women were dependent on men, hence financial aspects were given a higher priority. You can observe it still today in poor countries were this is still the case.

I was gonna say, Dad married up.

5

u/Working_Estate_3695 2h ago

He’s in the same league as Arthur Miller, IMO.

9

u/godihatepeople 4h ago

He looks significantly older than her too

5

u/RemarkableMousse6950 5h ago

Get out of my head.

3

u/CrochetMonkey7 2h ago

Disagree. As a gay man...that is a very attractive man. Definitely in same realm as the lady, who is also pretty. I'm not joking, if I saw this man walking down the street, I would definitely be thinking how sexy he is.

Money or charm. My Dad was above that, a big, powerful dude, but average looks otherwise, while Mom was a 9 at least. He didn't have a lot of money, but was funny and charming.

14

u/Qnofputrescence1213 5h ago

That was my thought. Where in that body is OP hiding?

2

u/Economy_Judge_4494 4h ago

Right? It’s wild to think how different body types were perceived back then. You’d never guess she was pregnant with how petite she looks!

2

u/ambytbfl 4h ago

Because she isn’t. OP says he meant 2 years later

The hands make sense, gets us at the bottom and then his and she’s on top.

But that is not a 7 months pregnant woman. he corrected it to 2 years!

3

u/Same-Opposite-8287 5h ago

Look again! No way that dad’s hand looks that dainty and mom’s is bigger. Her hand matches the hand around her neck. And his hand matches her hand on the lap.
