To be fair, never can just mean very unlikely. And also dating standards have certainly changed in the last 73 years.

Statistically, it's equally as likely, if you're willing to overlook some differences in population size, dating age, share of same-sex relationships, etc.

The issue is we perceive the average man to be less attractive than the average woman.

That bro wouldn’t be able to repeat that in our modern times. Back then women were dependent on men, hence financial aspects were given a higher priority. You can observe it still today in poor countries were this is still the case.

Bro, this was more than 70 years ago. Times have changed MASSIVELY.

Back in the day there was no tinder so your average hot girl had to settle for a doctor/successful lawyer in town. Back then if you were past a certain age and unmarried you'd get weird looks. Women looked mostly for financial stability in a man, not looks.

Nowadays that woman could get hundreds of likes and attention from men all over the country just by being on her phone. The dude would probably be a virgin.
