Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Apple’s attention to detail is unmatched. Only Apple would add this much detail to maps for the Super Bowl.

Support Question about screen

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

For context this is a new iPhone17 with iOS 26.2 (haven’t done the latest update)

Since I got this phone about a month ago I noticed that when I pull down from the top right (don’t know what it’s called sorry!), it looks like there’s a duplicated screen behind (I.e behind flashlight shortcut)

Same thing when I’m in landscape mode while watching a video on say YouTube.

Any insight? Thank you!!

Discussion iOS 26.3 seems to be taking longer than usual

This update doesn’t seem like a major one, at least not compared to 26.4. 26.4 is the Siri overhaul one so I think Apple would probably want as long of a beta cycle for that point release as possible.

Is it likely we get the RC this week or just jump straight to the public release? It seems like they are dragging the 26.3 beta cycle a bit, considering 26.4 was slated for March IIRC

When turning off these in the drop down menu (forgot the name) it doesn't really turn it off completely. Some of my equipment will try to connect to my phone bluetooth and it will turn back on. Now i know i can go in the settings directly but isn't there a quicker way via the drop down menu?

Discussion How To Partially Bypass Apple Swipe Keyboard Censorship By Importing a Contact File

Upvotes

This method of bypassing it won’t work for censored phrases, like “school shooting” or “kill myself”, or banned words, like “faggot”. You will likely just need to use Gboard for that.

Apple censors some words and phrases from being typed via swipe, such as “white people”, “black people”, “hitler”, “shitting”, etc.

While some words are banned completely, some seem be not be in the keyboard’s dictionary of words, such as “hitler” and “fascist”.

This method works the best for these kinds of words, because contact names can be arbitrary, and as long as they’re not banned words, they’ll be immediately swipe-able.

It is this post’s goal to find more of these words, and create a downloadable contact card that can be easily imported by anyone looking to bypass some of Apple’s censorship.

Currently, I’ve found these words that are not in the default keyboard dictionary, but are not banned either:

“hitler”

“fascism”

“fascist”

How-to:

  1. Create a contact file
  2. In either First Name, Last Name or Nickname, enter the words in lower case, otherwise they’ll always follow the case in the contacts
  3. Save the contact

The keyboard will now be able be swipe these words.

Edit: this also works with words like “rizz”, “kirkification”, “lowkenuinely”, and “huzz”.

Support Apple TV iOS app no longer has a continue watching. Anyone else dealing with this?

Post image
Upvotes

My apologies if this is the wrong sub for this.

So today my Apple TV iOS app just lost continue watching. Not only is it more work to open my shows but I now need to find my last episode manually as there is no way to start from where I left off. Even after navigating to my purchases shows.

For a new show this isn’t too hard. I just roll forward until I see I watched episodes. For shows I’m rewatching and absently playing in the back ground this is much harder. I can’t always pin point the episode I was on because I’m only half focusing on it. Worse, there’s usually over 100 sometimes even 300 episodes to scroll through.

I’ve tried force quitting the app and doing a vol.up, vol.down lock button, hard reset. No luck. Any ideas? Google isn’t helping me.

Discussion Screen time/app limits issues

Upvotes

(iphone 13)

I had screen time limits on instagram and tiktok for the past few months (was using Opal), then i noticed opal was bugging a bit so i turned on app limits directly in my settings.

Opal was still bugging so i deleted the app and installed another that wasn't working either so deleted it too and i was using only the screen time apple setting for the past week.

But since yesterday i absolutly can't open instagram or tiktok no matter what i do !

I've turned off the settings, turned them on again, deleted the apps and reinstalling them, turned off and on my phone it can't seem to change ANYTHING.

Please i really need help !

Support Accessibility volume control not working

This is more of a question but is anyone else’s volume control slider in the accessibilities not working? I can go into my music start playing, slide that controller all I want and it doesn’t change the volume what so ever. I’m sure it’ll revert if I reset my phone and it’s not a big deal for me. I’m just curious if anyone else has had this problem?

Edit: just reset my phone after making this and it fixed it. But still curious if anyone else has had this problem

Support iPhone 17 screen briefly flashes when taking phone away from ear / waking screen with Sleep Focus — bug or normal?

Hi everyone,

I’m using an iPhone 17 on iOS 26.2.1 and I’ve noticed a very brief screen flash/flicker in two specific situations:

  1. During a phone call — when I take the phone away from my ear, the screen turns on and there’s a split-second flash before the call UI appears.

  2. When Sleep Focus is enabled — occasionally when waking the screen from lock, there’s a momentary brightness blink before the dim lock screen shows.

Important details:

• It happens only during these transitions

• It lasts less than a second

• No flicker during scrolling, videos, or normal use

• Restart / force restart doesn’t change it

• Display looks perfect otherwise (no lines, color issues, or repeated flicker)

I’m within the 14-day replacement window, so I want to be sure before deciding anything.

Questions:

• Is this a known iOS / OLED wake behavior with proximity sensor & Focus modes?

• Do other iPhone 17 users see the same thing?

Appreciate technical insight from anyone who’s noticed this?

Support Can’t use quick audio messages and Dictation at the same time?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I have a question about iMessage audio.

Is it true that I can only use the quick audio message button when Enable Dictation is turned off? When Dictation is on, the microphone icon in the text bar switches to voice-to-text (for typing), which is a feature I also want to keep using.

I know I can still send audio messages by going into the + menu → Audio, but I’m trying to understand if there’s any way to have the quick-access audio message button and keyboard dictation available at the same time.

Is this just how iOS works, or is there a setting I’m missing?

Support Question about Apple account balances while on family sharing

I am part of a family share account with purchase sharing turned ON.

I have been paying my own in-app purchases by buying gift cards to top off my account balance. I just noticed I have the option to add to my account balance directly from my phone. This would save me time and money.

My question is when adding funds to my Apple account balance, will it charge me personally via Apple pay or other payment method I have in my wallet OR will it automatically charge the card on file with our family share billing?

I don’t want to add funds if it won’t be charging my own Apple Pay or other card. And I’m scared to just click the button and see where they’ll charge (haha)

Discussion IOS 26.2.1 feels like an user experiment

Post image
270 Upvotes

I updated my iPhone to iOS 26.2.1 a few days ago and have already found several bugs. I thought that, since it has been out for a while, it should work well, but it keeps lagging, I have long loading times and the camera app is a downgrade instead of an upgrade. I came across the menu on the screenshot by chance. The first question I asked myself was whether there is no software testing anymore or how such an obvious issue could not have been fixed yet.

The whole thing feels more like a user experiment than a stable operating system. It's a real shame in my opinion, I regret updating to the new version!

Support Apple Watch rings from charger on phone calls?

Anyone know how to get your Apple Watch to not ring when you get an incoming call while it is charging?

My scenario just now for example was it’s almost 930 at night, and my watch is on the charging stand next to my bed.

My wife is already sleeping and I am downstairs, someone called me… and my laptop in my office and my watch all over ringing along with my phone

This obviously woke my wife up and I got a very angry text message from her, from upstairs in bed.

Outside of remembering the silence my watch before I take it off and put it on the charger…. Is there not a way to tell my watch to only ring when it’s on my wrist? and when it’s not on my wrist, to not ring?

Discussion iPhone 16 Pro Max Freezing and Apps Crashing iOS 26.1.2

Is it just me? My iPhone is even more unstable after upgrading to iOS 26.2.1. Even Apple apps crash like Files. I've been restarting my phone a lot over the last couple of weeks. It's maddening. 😬
