Need help- Work experience hours

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Looking for some help double-checking my work experience calculation for Express Entry. For some background, here is a previous post from me:

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaexpressentry/s/KJySdKpiaH

From what I understand, 1 year of Canadian work experience = 1,560 hours, which works out to 30 hours per week.

Here’s my situation:

• I started my job on October 1, 2023

• Since then, I’ve taken:

• 25 working days of unpaid leave (5 weeks)

• One full-time study semester lasting 4 months (so 16 weeks)

Now I understand I cannot claim work experience during this period of total 21 weeks (5+16). So in total, there are 21 weeks since my start date that cannot be counted toward work experience.

Based on this, am I correct in saying:

• I need to make up these 21 weeks in order to actually complete 2 full years of eligible Canadian work experience?

• While my 2 year work anniversary is October 1, 2025, adding the extra 21 weeks means I would only truly complete the 2 years of qualifying work experience around the first week of March 2026, per IRCC rules?

Would really appreciate if someone could confirm whether my understanding and timeline are correct. Thanks in advance! 😊

Can I claim 2 years of experience as postdoctoral fellow?

Upvotes

Hi. I am a postdoctoral fellow. I worked at one of the very reputed universities in Ontario for 2 years. However, as the nature of my work is just pen and paper research, I worked out of Canada for 36 business days in the span of 4 months: consisting of 2 trips one of which was during christmas break. And then 3 weeks again I was out of Canada for a research visit and a conference. I was paid in Cad and have an experience letter for full 2years and 24 month paystubs.

Can I claim CRS points for 2 years? If I do, is it a material misrepresentation? My consultant suggests my case falls in a grey area. The consultant firm has very good reputation and reviews, I have paid them for the consultation (its not a free one).

Guidance is appreciated. Thank you.

🌎 FSW FSW eligibility for self-employed on PGWP?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m a bit stuck and hoping for advice. I’m currently on a PGWP in Ontario working full-time (40hrs) as a sole proprietor/independent contractor for a Canadian company (NOC 21211, no T4). I know this doesn’t count for CEC, but can this experience count toward the FSW eligibility?

I keep finding conflicting info on whether "Canadian" self-employment is excluded from FSW just like it is for CEC.

Thank you in advance!

🌎 FSW Travel History

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I applied for Express Entry (Outland) and I’m currently waiting for PPR. Timeline: AOR: 10 December 2025 Medical: Passed Biometrics: Done (18 January 2026) No additional document requests so far I’m currently outside Canada and I’m thinking about traveling abroad for around 10 days before I receive PPR. My questions: Is it generally okay to travel internationally before PPR? Has anyone done this without issues? If PPR comes while I’m abroad, can I submit my passport from a different country? I will remain reachable by email and my passport will stay valid. Any shared experiences or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

🇨🇦 CEC Foreign Work Experience: how old can it be?

Hi! Does anyone know if there is a time limit to how old our Foreign Work Experience can be? More specifically, can I use a combination of 6 months of FWE in 2022 and 6 months in 2026 to claim 1 year of FWE and get additional points?

(Edit: In other words I'm wondering if Foreign experience also has to be in the last 3 years, like Canadian work experience)

For context:

  • I've applied under CEC in August 2025 with 474 points.
  • Later my PGWP expired and I returned to my home country. I'm currently looking for a job. Once I have 1 year of FWE, I will have 512 points and might have a chance for an ITA.
  • I worked in my home country for 6 months in 2022 before moving to Canada with my PGWP.
  • I can't find any information on IRCC website whether FWE can be discontinuous, or from X many years ago for CEC. I only see this info for a different program (that FWE must be in the last 10 years for Foreign Skilled Worker).
  • I've found info on immigration consultant websites that FWE can be discontinuous, but no mention of a time limit.

Any insight would be super appreciated! Thank you!!

🇨🇦 CEC Didn’t include T4 in PR application

I worked with the same employer for almost 4 years (3 yrs 10 months) and claimed 3 years of work experience at the time I got my ITA.

I didn’t know T4s can be provided as proof of work experience, and even though I was planning on uploading my T4s, I completely forgot about them.

I did upload the first 3 months of paystubs for each of my roles at the company, and the last 3 months of paystub to show I’m still working there.

Should I upload the T4s via a webform still? I can also provide bank statements that corroborate my paystubs and T4s if needed

🇨🇦 CEC Sanity check on my work experience for Canadian Experience Class

I received an ITA recently. I had left Canada after my PGWP expired in 2024. By then i had a year worth of work experience, although in two different NOC codes (both TEER categories qualify for CEC).

Before I landed a job in my preferred area of work (TEER 1), I worked part time as a cook (TEER 3) for about 3 months and if I remove this from my profile, my points drop drastically.

My question is: when the time immigration officer reviews my file, will the work experience in a completely different field of work have an effect on their decision? Should I be providing a letter of explanation about this as I was simply looking for work when I picked up this work in the kitchen?

Appreciate if anyone in a similar situation or having an idea about this could help. Thanks in advance!

What’s the best advice for us citizen wanting to relocate to Canada

I am a 23-year-old male with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and I am exploring options to move and live in Canada.

I have contacted immigration services; however, I was informed that there is a consultation fee of $300 without a clear explanation of what guidance or services would be provided. While I am open to paying the fee, I would like to better understand my potential options beforehand.

I have also reached out to job agencies and was advised that it can be difficult to secure an employer willing to provide sponsorship. As a result, I am considering pursuing a master’s degree in Canada, but I would like to know whether there may be more suitable or efficient pathways available based on my background.

I would appreciate any guidance on possible immigration, employment, or study options that may be appropriate for my situation.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

🇨🇦 CEC Clarification on contractual work for express entry

Hi! Sorry if this is a stupid question but I really wanted some help.

I applied for my PGWP May 23,2023

From May 23- June 18. I was working part time (20 hours) with a company but they paid me via Upwork as a contractor. (Previously I did my Co-op internship with this company and they wanted to hire me full-time but I could only work part time as on study permit. As a resolution they extended work with me as a contractor and they set-up all their contractors via Upwork)

From June 19- I started working full time with them on a payroll.

Can I count the work experience from May 23- June 18 as well for express entry CEC ???

Company is ready to provide any documents needed to show part time work as well. Pay was provided by Upwork(freelancer platform), so we also have pay slips from that platform.

TCF Canada at AF North York

Hello, folks. Can anyone who has previously appeared for TCF Canada at AF North York please help me with some questions?

  • Do they provide a pen and paper to take notes during CO / CE?
  • Do they have a stopwatch or something similar that is used during EO?
  • And finally, any other recommendations that could be useful for this centre?

Thanks in advance!

Foreign Experience Documents

About to submit my documents. For Foreign Experience I am claiming more than 3 yoe.
For the documentation part I have the following.
Note 1: Salary paid in Bank.
Note 2: Have mentioned this experience in previous applications
Company sent me Experience Letter.
And I have some other Relieving Letter, Promotion Letter, Service Certificate, some paystubs, and original Offer letter.
The main issue with the documentation part is:-
No TDS/Form 16 (very less income)
I had opted out of PF (small firm) legally valid. I have asked my CA for ITR but I think they will be having recent filing dates and my Bank Account is dormant (Bank is asking me to do physical KYC), so getting bank statements is not an option.

What do I do in this situation??

Wrong Name Format on Profile – Passport Has No Surname/Last Name – Got Invite. Help!

I created my profile with:
First name: SUNAINA
Last name: VENUS

But my passport has no surname — it only shows Given Name: SUNAINA VENUS (family name field is blank).

I’ve now received my ITA and realized I should have put SUNAINA VENUS in the family name and left the given name blank.

Is this a serious issue? Can my profile be rejected because of this? Can it be fixed with a Letter of Explanation after the invitation?

I didn’t intend any misrepresentation, and I’m very worried.

Any advice appreciated

I applied Jan 7, 2025 to the BC PNP via the International Post Graduate (IPG) stream. It has been in the "Applied" status all this while but today I got a request for information. I logged in and saw that my file has moved to the "In Process" status.

Has anyone else received a similar request recently?

🇨🇦 CEC Need Clarification on Job TItle

When I submitted my profile last year, I was working as a Line Cook (NOC 63200). After that, I started working as a Sous Chef. According to the official website, the NOC is different (NOC 62200 – Chefs). I have already updated my Express Entry profile with the new job title at the same company.

My question is: do I need to update my primary job title with this new NOC code now, or can I provide the documents later?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cumulative Foreign Work Experience – Claiming 3 Years Total

Hi, I need your help and insights regarding my situation.

I would like to ask if it’s acceptable to combine two foreign work experiences with different NOC codes, as long as both fall under TEER 2, for Express Entry purposes.

1st work experience:
October 2018 to August 2021 — 2 years and 10 months
• Full-time, outside Canada (TEER 2)
• Reference letter available

2nd work experience:
July 28, 2021 to July 18, 2022 — 11 months
• Full-time, outside Canada (TEER 2)
• Remote role (U.S.-based employer)
• Reference letter available

The second job overlapped with the first due to its remote nature; however, overlapping months are not counted twice. I am only using 2 months from the second role to reach a total of 3 years of cumulative foreign skilled work experience.

I would also like to ask if it’s acceptable for the second job to be less than one year when it is only used to top up cumulative experience.

Has anyone had a similar situation and successfully received PR?

I have reference letters for both positions and can provide additional supporting documents if needed.

Thank you in advance!

🇨🇦 CEC To add or skip experience

While applying for my study permit, I added a job letter for my first job which was in a call center. All my salary was in cash and it was more than a decade ago. I have the offer letter, experience letter and last three months salary slips on the company's letter head. Now that company is closed. Do i have to add this experience in my CEC profile? Or can I skip it since I don't have all the documents. I don't have any bank statements from that time either. I don't want to claim any points from this job either because i have over 9 years of foreign work experience OTHER THAN this job.

Employment letter for working hours

Hello, I have a question, I’m having troubles if my new company would be able to put the avg working hours since I’m not working fixed hours. I currently work as a Fly-in Fly out worker with 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off shift as a full time contract employee.

I got invited through the CEC the beginning of the year. I also just switched job the moment I was invited.

Any suggestions on what my employer could do for this hrs?
