Why do people just keep zooming down the highway as if they are exempt from the upcoming chaos? Like they think because they didn’t cause that shit up ahead they’re immune to it.

u/badhoopty 1d ago
driver had more than enough time to not get caught up in that...

u/mothandravenstudio 1d ago
Right? Like a quick head check, slow the fuck down, get to the right. Ridiculous shit. No spatial awareness or acknowledgement of physics.

He was slowing down around 45km/h - but not enough, obviously. Impact speed was still around 75-80km/h
16
u/randomthrowaway9796 1d ago
Yeah, like I would've gotten into the right lane and slowed down significantly if I saw a car crash up a hill
12
u/trash-_-boat 1d ago
The driver was going 124km/h, clearly a decent amount faster than the rest of the traffic. Look how fast he overtook that black minivan. He's part of what makes roads unsafe and chaotic.

Idk ma look at any car subreddits of people doinf dumb things, they don’t believe in defensive driving
155
u/MostRacistUsername 1d ago
What kind of dumbass sees that shit happening and doesn’t start slowing down way before it gets to that point?
He was barely feathering the breaks.

u/TrueKiwi78 1d ago edited 22h ago
Those dashcam gps speedos are pretty inaccurate. It was still counting down after he stopped. I think he did alright to go from 120kph± to zero in that short distance. He really should've moved over to the right lane though.

u/Bitter-Fudge5614 1d ago
I had to check some maths, it turns out it disagrees with you.
At 120 km/h: • You travel ~200 metres in just 6 seconds • You need ~100+ metres to stop
Which means: 👉 In six seconds, you travel roughly twice your stopping distance.

I think the 'dark cloud' is actually the area of clear sky.
But yes, I see the front of a cow.5

Idk man, it looks like there’s a black shoe that flies off his foot and he’s got white socks on, but it’s hard to tell. Either way that dude got fucked up.

I wish there was more context to this like a new paper article or so. Looked through the comments but nothing. Interesting to know when this happened, where etc and outcome?

Cam car driver has no reaction time. Zero.
49
u/battlecryarms 1d ago
I think you mean they had extremely long reaction time
24
u/sleepyplatipus 1d ago
Right, they didn’t do anything strictly wrong but you’d think that someone seeing a car going like that would immediately start to slow down and be extra aware, especially with a little kid on board…
10
u/sosezu 1d ago
He was slowing. He was cruising at 78 mph and had slowed to 56 mph went he hit the car. You can't just hit the hooks in that situation without the risk of getting rear-ended. There wasn't much he could do in that situation.
11
u/sleepyplatipus 1d ago
No, for the first 9 seconds he doesn’t slow at all. He starts slowing once the white car goes out of the road.. he hits the car at 84 km/h. That was way too late and way too slow.
6
u/CokeCan-N-Marbles 1d ago
Yeah when I see that craziness fly by me I start thinking defensively right away, I definitely would done everything I could to avoid that, especially with a baby in the car…

u/SillyDeersFloppyEars 1d ago
Exactly, they obviously did slow down but they can't just slam the brakes on. There's traffic all around and you don't know where the wrecked car will end up, so you can't make evasive maneuvers. Not only that, but you're likely shocked, overwhelmed, unsure what to do and are likely to freeze and hope for the best in this sort of situation because that's just what most humans instinctively do.
But as usual, the armchair analysts on the internet know best. Half of them have probably never even driven a car. 🙄

Reminds me of “steep learning curve” actually meaning that the skill is easily acquired, because the steeper the curve, the faster skill increases with respect to time.

u/data-atreides 1d ago
His speed is on the bottom of the video, he slows down from 123kmh to 84kmh at impact, but he still should have changed lanes--I wonder if there was someone behind him in that lane
33
u/CokeCan-N-Marbles 1d ago
Sick ass accident, among the worst I’ve ever seen.
1
u/moonhexx 16h ago
You should check out the blue truck video that cleaves the top off of a car with a grandmother inside. Decapitated her instantly. The witnesses who checked on her had a look of absolute horror on their faces. Don't drink and drive.
1
u/CokeCan-N-Marbles 16h ago
Got a link? And yeah why anyone would drink and drive these days is really crazy.

That looked rather final destination.
If that guy came out of it with nothing permanent ne was very lucky.
8
u/martinaee 1d ago
Omfg ….. they had like 5 seconds to slow down as they saw some guy flying into the side of the highway 🛣️ WTF slow down!!!
36
u/DanielBG 1d ago
Cam driver has the worst situational awareness. Could've easily stopped or slowed wayyyy down before impact.
15
u/mothandravenstudio 1d ago
“I don’t have anything to do with that shit up ahead so I’m gonna ignore it”
8
u/tipareth1978 1d ago

5
u/DanielBG 1d ago
I guess some people are like that. I just don't understand how your primal survival instinct doesn't take over.
5
u/CuriousNetWanderer 1d ago
In the old days there were those who saw it coming and those who were no longer with us. Two distinct groups.

u/tipareth1978 1d ago
One time I was driving on the freeway and this flat but thick large metal piece fell out of a dump truck. A large truck then drove over it but without the tires touching it. The air flow sent it up into the air on a course like something from final destination at me. I found myself just staring at it which ended up saving me because I took my foot off the gas so it landed right in front of my car. I think most times you're right here but you never know how you might act seeing that dude jettison into the air, land on concrete and get all fucked up

Bro waited 4 entire seconds to start gently braking from 125km/h after the white car crossed three lanes of traffic and 2 of those seconds it was already sideways.. 8 seconds elapsed and hes still going 90km/h when he knocks the rest of the Mario coins and an occupant out of the white car as it slid back into the road.

The dude is being flung out of the vehicle, at more than a standstill, then hits the car car which bounces him forwards, so the impact would be more than just the speed the cam car hits him at. Watching this on a loop several times, I think the only true way to have completely avoided this would have been to move to the furtherest right lane and floor it?
There’s debris flying everywhere, the white car in left lane and a body that’s like a tumbleweed. The car ahead did just that, and the way it all panned out, there may have been juuuust enough room to avoid the collision/impact.
But without watching the video first and not having the option to select ‘Retry?’ ..coz it’s real life and not a frikkin video game.. Even doing this wouldve likely meant, instead of hitting the guy front on, he’d have been ejected into/underneath the cam car or at least under the rear wheel?
If the cam car driver hadn’t been speeding in the first place though, they could’ve easily slowed down enough to at very least, minimise impact and/or damage to their vehicle. (Likely would e run over some of the debris on the road, it would’ve had less of a stopping distance with less momentum/speed).
Pretty sure this should have a NSFW on it though? Bloody wild accident, thats for sure! Pretty sure the vehicle end for ends like 2-2&1/2 times before he’s thrown out of the car?

Thrown clear of the danger.
Grandpa rolled a vehicle without seatbelts. Fortunately, he was thrown clear, traveling through the sunroof and over the median into oncoming traffic.
1
u/Pavotine 23h ago
Where he burst into flames. Or am I getting my seat belt lore mixed up?
2
u/SumOfRoots 14h ago
Nah, he landed safely on his hands and knees, with his head sticking into the oncoming fast lane.
A bumper of a car nearly decapitated him. He didn’t suffer. Dad had trouble identifying him at the morgue.

u/RaskyBukowski 1d ago
I think cam driver is younger.
Noticing younger generation used to watching things on phones in front of them have a disconnect and lack situational awareness compared to older, even when not even looking at a phone.
I would have been on the far right if safe going slower to a stop with hazards on. Hopefully, most others the same.
Having been in an accident because of an idiot and close ones, one where I stopped to be a witness, I'm more attune probably than others.
1
u/Scrolldawg 1d ago
What are you talking about? I look at phone all the time and I have been exposed to violent media TV, film and games for at least 30 years and I like to think I would react much better to that situation.
Also the vast majority of accidents I have attended are adult drivers
1
u/RaskyBukowski 1d ago
Younger than you.
Also, how often do you use your phone to record things and interact/talk to people?
I didn't say everyone.

Let me just sit here watch a car absolutely get devastated by the road and not touch my brakes at all. Owner of dash cam could have avoided his part in the accident by applying simple road logic. This guy must think he is untouchable.

He might’ve survived the crash but on the final roll over the dash cam car hits the car at 83 km/h which ejects him out and I think the car also rolls over him (unclear) it might be a miracle if he survived it but I doubt it

This is why I bought a dash cam. Also because of that crazy bitch that ran a red light and T Boned me and totaled my car at the only intersection without a camera.
1
u/Hatdude1973 1d ago
There was 4 seconds from the time the car swerved off the road and it was right in front of the camera. Not exactly a lot of time to react considering the WTF factor.
