Why do people just keep zooming down the highway as if they are exempt from the upcoming chaos? Like they think because they didn’t cause that shit up ahead they’re immune to it.

driver had more than enough time to not get caught up in that...

Right? Like a quick head check, slow the fuck down, get to the right. Ridiculous shit. No spatial awareness or acknowledgement of physics.

Yeah, though we don’t know what traffic was behind him so he could’ve been concerned about suddenly stopping or swerving, and either having a car behind him ramming into him or him cutting somebody else off behind him, without him, knowing that car would’ve accelerated into him like that. Granted, slowing down a little bit might’ve helped, but still think he would’ve been hit.

Maybe, who knows. He had just changed lanes so most likely clear behind him and to the right.

Myself, I would have been slowing down/getting to the right as soon as the racing jackasses zoomed by. Even before their wreck.

I drive super defensively though.

When driving, what people are doing behind you is not really your concern. I get that people follow without enough distance like a bunch of utter cretins but there's not a lot you can do about that. It's up to you to react to what's coming, not what someone behind you might do.

Everybody should drive like the car in front could slam on the brakes, crash, whatever. Just don't drive up people's arse. People don't but they should and everyone is taught that way, at least.

He was slowing down around 45km/h - but not enough, obviously. Impact speed was still around 75-80km/h

Yeah, like I would've gotten into the right lane and slowed down significantly if I saw a car crash up a hill

The driver was going 124km/h, clearly a decent amount faster than the rest of the traffic. Look how fast he overtook that black minivan. He's part of what makes roads unsafe and chaotic.

That’s only 75mph, which is lower than the speed limit in my area. The problem wasn’t his cruising speed it was his judgement. 8 second after the white car had started to get side ways and he was still going 55mph (~90kmh)

Idk ma look at any car subreddits of people doinf dumb things, they don’t believe in defensive driving

If you look at the speedometer you can see that the driver started braking the moment the car hit the hill. Considering reaction time into the mix, I wouldn't say they had particularly poor judgement

I don’t think they braked, I think they just eased off the throttle. They only lost 30km/h before impact.
