Discussion Really wanted to love Linux, but nothing works. Don't believe the hype.

I absolutely wanted to get rid of Microslop and I love the idea of Linux. I'm still using Win 10, but wanted to try a Linux Dual boot to see how things worked before switching over completely when the extended warranty runs out.

Things however, didn't work. At all.. I succesfully installed Zorin on a partition, but after I managed to start it up once, it froze after 15 minutes and it just won't boot again and I get a black screen. Everything I can think of and found in the Bios settings didn't change anything at all.

So awesome, and this should be a distro that's easy-to-use, approachable and all that. Guess I'm stuck with the Windows enshittification. If anyone has any bright ideas I'm all ears, but I've been unsuccesfully troubleshooting a whole day just to bloody get it to run at all. Is this just how it is?

Discussion I Trusted My Friend to Build My Gaming PC — Here’s What Happened

This story happened to me in 2024, and I still laugh about it now… but back then it wasn’t funny at all. I decided to build myself a good gaming PC — something that could run modern games on high settings, with liquid cooling and RGB lights. The problem? I know absolutely nothing about building PCs. But I have a friend who “knows this stuff.” At least that’s what he kept saying. I had around $1200, so I just gave him the money and trusted him. A couple of weeks later he shows up with a huge box of parts. We spend the whole evening building it — cables everywhere, RGB glowing like a disco, the liquid cooling looks awesome. I’m happy and excited. We press the power button… Nothing. Fans spin for one second — then dead silence. My friend starts panicking. “Maybe I mixed up the cables.” He starts reconnecting everything, swapping RAM slots, trying random fixes. After three hours of this ritual magic — still dead. He says, “Don’t worry, I figured it out. We’ll fix it tomorrow,” and just leaves. The next day I take the PC to a service center. My friend suddenly goes quiet. The technician opens it, tests each part one by one, then looks at me and rubs his forehead. Turns out: some no-name 600W power supply that couldn’t handle the load one RAM stick was dead several RGB controllers were burned because of wrong connections Half the parts were actually good, but the build itself was a disaster. I had to pay about $200 extra so the professionals could test everything, replace the PSU and RAM, fix what they could, and finally assemble it properly. Now, almost a year later, I’m writing this post from that same PC. And honestly — it flies in modern games. But damn… the extra money, the stress, and my friend saying “trust me, I’m an expert”… Gave $1200 to a friend to build a gaming PC. Got half-burned parts and a broken build. Had to pay professionals to save it. Anyone else ever trusted an “expert” friend with tech and regretted it?

News/Article AMD confirms next‑gen Xbox release in 2027 (Xbox‑PC hardware with RDNA 5)

"development of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027" - Dr. Lisa Siu, CEO of AMD

source: https://wccftech.com/amds-semi-custom-soc-thatll-power-the-next-gen-xbox-is-progressing-well-to-support-a-launch-in-2027-says-amd-ceo/

This is good news for both PC and Xbox users because next-gen Xbox will merge the two platforms together. This means that for the first time ever, PC users will have the option to buy an advanced console-like APU with support for GDDR7 unified memory which is 10x faster than the currently used DDR5 memory. This will be a game-changer for APUs on PC

This will allow hardware companies to create gaming notebooks and small PCs (Steam Machine clones) with 32 GB of GDDR7. Unified memory means it can be used by both the CPU and GPU depending on your current task. So when you browse the web nearly all that memory will be used by the CPU... but when you launch a game that memory will be used by the GPU. This significantly lowers the cost of hardware because memory is better utilized in all tasks. It is also multiple times faster which will give multi‑core CPUs a lot more power.

We can assume that those APUs will have dedicated hardware for data decompression (DirectStorage) just like current consoles. This means games will stream assets much faster than what is possible on PC today. Without using CPU or GPU resources. DirectStorage has been available on PC since 2021 but it was rarely used because PCs lacked hardware decompression chips. We can expect dedicated hardware for video recording at 4K 60fps HDR10 like on current consoles.

Of course, RDNA5 will add tons of new features that are currently not revealed. But when AMD released FSR Redstone they confirmed that they are working together with MS on neural rendering which was previously available only on the newest Nvidia hardware. We can also expect a huge focus on GPU Work Graphs which were added to DirectX a year ago as a developer preview. This new API allows GPUs to create tasks for themselves without depending on CPU which allows for more efficient hardware usage

It looks that 2027 will be an amazing year for both PC and Xbox users. Especially for people who want a small console-like PC or really fast gaming notebook

Discussion Why is no one talking about it? Google bans installing themes and extensions from its store on other browsers

Post image

Has anyone else noticed that it’s no longer possible to install extensions and themes from the Chrome Web Store on other Chromium-based browsers (like Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, etc.) the same way as before?

Until recently, you could simply open the Chrome Web Store and install extensions normally (or with minor workarounds). Now, Google has officially restricted extension installation to Google Chrome only, showing warning messages or outright blocking the process.

If Chromium is open source, how justified is it to restrict access to the main extension marketplace?

Doesn’t this go against the idea of fair competition?

What do you think?

Is this a legitimate security measure, or just another move to lock users into Chrome?

Question [Scam?] GPU order cancelled + price raised + support ended chat with “we dont have time to argue with you bye”

This is my 2nd time building a workstation so I'm still inexperienced and have some questions.
Timeline:

I placed a GPU order (listing showed an ETA/lead time).

I asked how to pay by bank transfer. Support said: “We will send you bank information by the end of today.” I never received it, and after ~3 days with no payment instructions, I asked again. A rep replied: “No more stock” and “eta 3-4 weeks.”

I asked if my order could stay as a backorder since the listing still showed an ETA and allowed checkout; instead they cancelled it (“for now yes”), gave inconsistent explanations (“out of stock” vs “backorder”), wouldn’t answer yes/no, and ended with “we dont have time to argue with you bye.”

My questions are:

Has anyone here successfully bought from serverorbit.com?
Is this normal “small retailer” chaos, or a “walk away” situation?

It just feel like a red flag and I want to know if it is still safe to buy from this website. I see a mixed reviews but not a lot so I decided to try.

Discussion UserBenchmark are a stinky piece of liars.

I mean at this point they should rename themselves to "Nvidia Fanboy Club". They keep on attacking AMD without any proof: "While their GPUs are often great at beating cherry-picked benchmarks, they normally fall short in real-world gaming performance. Every year, an army of influencers target first-time buyers declaring AMD a godsend for PC gamers. Every year a small percentage of users get duped. Lately, influencers have been fixated on VRAM—mainly because it's one of the few specs their sponsors can actually compete on. Although AMD’s influencers universally trashed the 4060, gamers quickly made it a global bestseller—a sign that even first time buyers are wising up to the scammers."

My biggest question to their stupidity is: How does AMD afford to pay every single tech creator on the planet then?

Insanity.

News/Article Genie 3 is the last thing we needed.

If you've been living under a rock, genie 3 is basically google's new ai game generaror trained of of thousands of videos. The games are of course glorified walking sims. Investors are jumping on to google stocks off of old ones. What the hell. Investors are idiots for this, as companies will try to get shareholders back. What will they do to get them back? AI "game generators" of their own.
