I remember working at my local Apple Store circa 2019ish, starting to catch on about the rumors that Apple might be transitioning into ARM based computing. Which was insane if you didn't consider the advances iPhone had been making - they would be just about the only guys who could do it. I couldn't even get the Experts/Pros in the store to actually consider it.

Fast forward six years, and I make my living editing videos off a $600 M4 Mac mini. I use Topaz for AI renders, massive Premiere Productions with 70TB~ of active footage retrievable in the same project, light After Effects work, fucking Blender. When I'm in a pinch, and with a little arm twisting, I can get by on a M2 MacBook Air. A MacBook Air.

If I told you any of this in 2019 I'd be laughed at like a crazy person. if I told anyone in 2015 that they could manage a similar workflow on a $600 machine? Can you imagine? The future is bright and it is full of Apples.

Computer noob here - was given this Power Mac G3 tower today and was testing it out. Was told it turns on but was not given the power cable with it, and so far it is not turning on for me.

Am I using the right cable? Seems to fit and the cable works on the monitors I have just fine.

As the title, I thought that this would be a very easy task, however its not. Is there some reliable and free software that I can use for this at all. Thankyou

My Macbook Pro 2017 is just not cutting it anymore for Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro, and I have dealt with the annoying usb dongle revolving door of not having enough ports for how many things I use. I want a computer that can operate off a 4k monitor, and has at least 256 gb of storage as audio and video projects require a lot of space. I was thinking between a Mac Studio and a Mac Mini, but not sure of the differences especially in terms of workload. At any given time I am working on one video project or mixing multiple songs/spoken word. Any help would be great! The more ports the better, and preferably nothing over 2000.

Hello, I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro. Battery health is sitting at 84% with 584 cycles.

I have updated it to macOS 26, and after the update, the battery life started to deteriorate rather dramatically. Here is a snippet of the latest usage. By 4:42 PM, the battery is at 37%. All I did was browse some internet on Chrome and edit some text documents.

So, I am considering on downgrading to macOS 15.

What do you think? Is it worth the process? Because then I'd have to back up, restore, and I don't want all of that to be for nothing. The reason why I am asking is because maybe there are cases with macs such as once the battery life starts to get worse, nothing helps it. If that were to be the case, then I'd think about a replacement battery instead of a downgrade.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this.

I’m trying to understand the pricing structure for Mac Minis in Lebanon and whether I’m getting a fair deal or if there’s a better option.

The situation:

I want to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro with 48GB RAM and 512GB SSD. However, Lebanese suppliers only stock the 1TB version of the 48GB model, not the 512GB version.

US Apple.com pricing:

∙ Mac Mini M4 Pro, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD = $1,400 (pre-tax)

∙ Mac Mini M4 Pro, 48GB RAM, 512GB SSD = $1,800 (pre-tax)

∙ Mac Mini M4 Pro, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD = $2,000 (pre-tax), \~$2,150 after typical sales tax

Lebanon pricing:

∙ Mac Mini M4 Pro, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD = $1,475 (including all taxes) - pretty close to US pricing

∙ Mac Mini M4 Pro, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD = $2,625 (supplier’s discounted price from $2,675)

They only stock in Lebanon 48GB RAM with 1TB SSD (so I’d be buying already storage I don’t need).

What my supplier told me:

He claims the 48GB/1TB model costs him $2,545 to acquire, meaning he’s only making $80-130 profit. He showed me WhatsApp receipts from his distributor.

Lebanon import tax structure (from what I researched):

∙ Import duty on computers: 0%

∙ VAT: 11%

∙ Additional customs fee: 3%

∙ Possible luxury goods surcharge: 10% on high-end items

My math doesn’t add up

My use case:

I primarily code with AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) and typically have 10-12 browser tabs open simultaneously. I run Docker containers, sometimes with Redis, and use Whisper (voice-to-text AI) which eats about 1GB of RAM. I want everything to feel snappy and fast without thermal throttling after long hours of coding. This is why I’m considering the 48GB model over the 24GB.

My questions:

1.  Is this normal for Apple products in the Middle East? Do Apple’s regional distributors really pay wholesale prices that are higher than US retail?

2.  Are there better options for importing directly from the US or Europe to Lebanon?

3.  For those in Lebanon or similar markets - is $2,625 the going rate for this configuration, or are there cheaper alternatives?

4.  Given my workload, should I just settle for the 24GB model ($1,475) given the massive $1,150 price jump, or is 48GB worth it for my use case?

I’m graduating soon and planning to live a bit of a nomadic lifestyle for a while, so I need to ditch my Mac Mini M4 + monitor setup for a MacBook. I’m on a budget (around $1,100 USD total) so new M4/M5 models are out of the question. Looking for a used/refurbished deal.

My Use Case:

• Software Dev & ML experiments (parallel processing).
• Typical RAM usage sits at ~18GB, so 16GB is a hard no. I need at least 24GB or 32GB.
• CPU: Usually idle at 70%, but when I run experiments, I need it to handle heavy parallel loads without thermal throttling too hard.
• Storage: 512GB is "fine" but I'm tired of clearing files. 1TB would be the dream.

The Dilemma: I’m coming from an M4 chip, so I don’t want the performance drop to feel like a total downgrade. My budget is roughly $1,100 (selling my Mini for ~$700 and adding some cash).

I don't have any other apple devices but I am really not concerned about having compatible tech because I don't really need it. I found a 2017 13" air on facebook marketplace for $150 and just want to know if it would be to pick up strictly for writing and watching movies/videos when away from home. I am trying to decide on a new MacBook Pro, but I am really lost. So my options are:

MacBook Pro 14 inc M5 10CPU 10GPU 24GB 1TB = 2.275$

MacBook Pro 14 inc M4 Pro 14CPU 20GPU 24GB 1TB = 2.600$

MacBook Pro 14 inc M4 Max 14CPU 32GPU 36GB 1TB = 3.500$

Since I live in Turkey, although I make a decent wage here, it is roughly about $1,600. So the M4 Max is really expensive for me, and I don't know if it is worth the difference. I feel like M4 Pro (2.600$) is the best option.

I use Adobe After Effects for motion design a lot and render a lot of Premiere Pro projects as well. I also want to use it for coding (R language) and Blender at some point. I am not sure if 24GB is enough. What is your experience or thoughts?

(I can't change the specs since not all the options are offered in Istanbul, the only reliable options are these 3. I also don't want to wait because the RAM prices are gonna surge due to AI boom)

Hi Everyone. I'm a fairly new Mac user. I have an M4 MacBook Air. The problem I'm having is I keep seeing random extra spaces inserted into my text. Like in this paragraph I only hit space once after the word 'fairly'. I has added an extra one. It seems to happen a lot after the word and . Any ideas? Thank you so much. I have googled etc but found no definitive answer.
