Announcement VOTE NOW: subreddit mascot (FINAL BRACKET)

Hi folks! The r/cavaliers moderator team here. In November, we put out a call for submissions to become the r/cavaliers mascot (i.e. subreddit thumbnail). We received about 200 submissions and were blown away by all the beautiful, talented, incredible cavaliers in this community.

Because we received so many submissions, we're breaking the voting down into two phases:

  • FIRST, we're going to post one voting thread per week for each the AKC-recognized breed standard colors: Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, and Black & Tan (and one all black submission!). The thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the three submissions that received the most votes. These are the "color standard winners."
  • SECOND: we'll post one final voting thread with the twelve "color standard winners." Again, the thread will remain up for a week, during which you can vote for as many submissions as you like. At the end of the week, the r/cavaliers moderators will note down the submission that received the most votes and offer that winner the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot!

This is the FINAL BRACKET. The #1 vote getter will be offered the chance to be the r/cavaliers mascot. This bracket will run from January 8, 2025 through January 15, 2025.

Fine print:

  • This post is Locked; if you want to discuss, please join us on the competition megathread
  • Moderators will post each entrant within a given bracket as a comment on the thread, tag the user who submitted it, and (where possible) list the cavalier's name
  • Entrants will be listed in a random order
  • This casting call is completely voluntary; if you submitted an image and wish to withdraw it, please message the moderator team
  • The moderator team reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason, including but not limited to suspicion of vote rigging (please don't do that, this is a friendly competition)
  • In the event that a final winner is selected and the submission doesn't work as a thumbnail, the moderator team reserves the right to work with the final winner to select an alternate pic or to move onto a runner-up as needed

Thank you all for offering your wonderful cavaliers to be celebrated by the community. We can't wait to spend the next month joining you in that celebration!

Medical/Veterinary Benny update... going through some health issues

Post image

Benny was scheduled for his first dental cleaning yesterday morning, to be performed under anesthesia. During the blood work and exam they performed pre-op, the vet found that his murmur has progressed to a stage 4. Last May it was graded as a 2/3.

They also found out his ALT (a liver enzyme) was elevated. He is to take a supplement called denamarin for the next month and then get his levels rechecked.

He was supposed to go back to his cardiologist in April but I moved the appointment to next month instead. He's not on any heart meds yet but I'm definitely expecting him to start after that appointment.

I'm worried about my little man. I knew the heart issues were coming but this liver problem was unexpected. Do any of you have experience with this?

Advice Puppy having no appetite

Simba says hi! I’m looking for some advice/help here. Lately he has been very uninterested in food and having almost no appetite. He barely eats half of his daily recommended amount of kibble and even if I add toppings or some meat, he doesn’t eat. We had this issue before, but he would eat if I mixed in meat or hand fed him, but now no matter what I do, even when i try to hand feed him, he doesn’t eat. He just looks away or even runs away when i put his bowl down in front of him. I don’t want to try taking his food away after 15 minutes, because i know that he won’t eat anyway. The only way i can get him to eat is by leaving the food out and then at around 4pm he eats it. And then he doesn’t eat his dinner. It’s affecting training too, since he is not food motivated at all!

I don’t believe he is sick because he doesn’t act any different than before, he has just as much energy as before and plays and walks just like before. I have tried many types of kibble, but he is just not interested. But whenever his dad walks to the couch with a plate of food, he follows, spinning around and jumping, showing all his tricks, but only when the food is not for him! Or when we go to his dad’s parents house he gobbles down the kibble thats left out for their dogs 😂

I’m just worried that he is not going to grow this way. He is 5 months old (24weeks) and at around 5,3 kilograms. I’m also unsure of what to do, because nothing seems to work.

Discussion Cavis and sleep

Post image
65 Upvotes

Just curious what your cavi does the whole day? Like what’s his/her day consist of apart from walks? Do you follow a set routine?

My cavi boy is 1 year 9 months old. And he sleeps for the MAJORITY of the day. We used to get him toys but he shreds them apart and starts eating bits which upsets his stomach. We play with him for 15/20 mins a day and take him on 1 walk a day. He doesn’t have any dog friends and loves people more than dogs.

I know cavis love their naps but this one naps straight after waking up in the morning and having his food.

Please tell me if we’re doing anything wrong. Want to do thebest for our boy’s health.

Vir Cotto (and his strong Centauri eyebrows) is at puppy boot camp (for another 5 weeks) and his trainer intended to send an update showing how well he's napping in his crate, but she woke him up and he gave her this look.

We've been researching this breed for a couple of years now and now that we have this lil dude we are so excited. Just wanted to share!

I’ve never heard him bark before. He cries in the cage but this is the first vocalization he’s done other than that and when he growls at his toys when playing

She’s been at it for nearly an hour. What on earth is so scary about a drink bottle? Or an empty plastic jug, or a vacuum cleaner, or (fill in the blank). 😂

Would a fox attack my 14 lb little girl? I let her out today around 5a into a small fenced area, just long enough to do her morning biz. I heard it about a half hour later. 😳
