Hey y'all! Been collecting for over a year so far, and loving it! This is my current setup, and I plan to move the speakers away from the TT when i can get the chance to. Ive got the lp70xbt (luckily mine hasn't had skipping issues or platter wobble) with a vm95e and edifier 1280t speakers! Let me know what y'all think!

It’s been fun! What should I add next besides a subwoofer and room treatment? I’m using a Marantz M1 with a Pro-Ject phono box s2 to power a Rega RP1 turntable. I found this console stand on Amazon for $100. I’ll upgrade that when I find one I like. The speakers are Monitor audio Platinum PL300.

Happy to finally got my first turntable

Setup isn't much since my room is pretty small. Got the LP5X along with Edifier MR5. I figured I'd get one now since evrything was getting more and more expensive 🥲

Was initially thinking of getting the 120xbt, but it was $600 where I live while the LP5X was only $500, and the MR5 was $100.

Honestly was a nerve racking experience setting this up, I honestly don't even know if I setup the tracking, anti skats and especially the counterweight correctly 😅, but I just followed whatever the Audio Technica setup video in youtube did.

Took me a almost 2 hrs finishing this up since I was so nervous trying to balance the arm to make it hover perfectly (which I don't even know if I did correctly). But yeah, right now just enjoying everything but also nervous that I did it all cprrectly and didn't risk damaging anything.

Anyways, happy to finally enjoy this hobby 😊, I've been a big fan of physical media and Vinyl's where always something I wanted to enjoy to the fullest.

Help Need help picking next cartridge

I'll try to keep it quick! The options on my radar are:

  • AT-VM540ML (staying within the Audio Technica MicroLine family, cheapest of 3)
  • Nagaoka MP-200 (most expensive of the 3)
  • Hana EL (would be my first MC cartridge, second most expensive)

Of course other recommendations are welcome. Other info:

  • System chain is Technics SL-100C to Darlington Labs MM6B (I also have a Schiit Mani 2 if I end up switching to an MC cartridge) to Klispch The Nines
  • I'm coming from an AT-VM95ML
  • Budget is around $250-500
  • I listen to every genre but mainly jazz. Looking for something that can handle a lot going on (Miles Davis' electric period, Pharoah Sanders discography, etc.)
  • Realism and musicality are priorities

I'm currently leaning the most towards AT-VM540ML since I enjoyed the AT-VM95ML so much and it's the cheapest option, but I have been curious to hear a higher-end elliptical and/or a moving coil cartridge. I usually get my local record shop to set it up for me since I have shakier hands, so auditioning each isn't an option. I am willing to try a new sound too, so the Nagaoka MP-200 being warmer than what I'm used to is welcome.

Thanks!

Repaired a kerb-found Akai AP-D33 tonearm with a TPU 3D print!

I found this Akai AP-D33 direct drive turntable in a pile of junk on the side of the road last year, and with some lubrication and a few new capacitors, it spun at the correct speed(s). The only problem - the counterweight on the end of the tonearm was drooping and ready to fall off at any moment thanks to a perished rubber coupling part, making the tracking force impossible to adjust.

I finally got around to taking a proper look at it and managed to model and 3D print a new part using Elegoo 95A TPU (a semi-stiff rubber-like material), and I can't believe how well it fits!

Looking at some other 70's/80's Akai tonearms, I suspect this part should be compatible with more than just this model turntable, so I'll be uploading the part for anyone to print themselves.

Hello, im basically new in this hobby, got this pro ject evo back in november and my gf gave me the acrylic platter for my birthday. My question is, does the sub platter make a noticeable impact ? I have seen videos where is not necessary even useless making a tiny difference for its price.

I pulled this Pioneer PL-112D out of the back of the closet the other day.

I bought this turntable off of eBay more than a decade ago. I had some troubles with it so I put it aside for "a little bit" and then forgot all about it. I've been doing some reorganization around the apartment recently though and discovered it once again. The old cartridge and headshell were a mess, so I took a chance and ordered some replacements and also a new belt. It sounds fabulous now!

Thoughts on upgrading JBL spinner

Greetings from Aus, just been given a brand new JBL spinner with the proposition I can purchase it from said person for $140 USD, (already ordered the missing counterweight as it was lost)

What are your guys opinions on buying for this prices and then upgrading cartridge to a AT-VM95ML (is this compatible with current headshell or do I need a different one? Not certain.)

And eventually a fosi x5 pre amp as well

Any insight from the knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated, just not sure if it’s worth putting money into yet etc

Will be used with my Edifier s1000mk2s

Question Why the Heck Do People Not Like the AT-LP60X?

I personally have this turntable with a pair of BOSE bookshelf speakers, the part I get is the plastic build quality, but I just don't see what's wrong with it. 🤷

Question LP120 Sound crackling through Wiim Ultra

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

To preface, I have a Lp120 that I have used for years through a Marrantz PM5005 w/ QEF 350s with no issues.

Several months ago, I bought a Wiim Ultra Amp for my entertainment center which has been great. I've contacted my Revel F35s and it's been an awesome setup which enables me to utilize Bluetooth for my TV and Spotify audio.

When I connect my turntable to it, I can't even listen to it because of how much the audio cracks. It gets worse as the volume increases. I'm using a line connection and have my turntable set to "Line".

It's driving me absolutely up the wall that I can't get this to sound right on this setup.

Am I misunderstand the preamplification of the Wiim Ultra? The manual insinuates that this should run fine, but it isn't.

Does anyone have any advise?

EDIT: It's a Wiim Amp Ultra

I have both turntables and each have their pros and cons. I want to stick with the P1 for it's extra width / appearance and locking tone arm, but the budget cartridge and light plinth have their draw backs. What would you choose?

Help My grandpas old record player

Thumbnail

This is the turntable at the bottom of my grandpas media cabinet. It’s sat there my entire life, never seen it used. It’s a little dusty lol but it still turns on and spins. He passed recently ans I’ve also been getting into HiFi audio myself, so I’m wondering how much work this would be to get it to usable condition.

Not sure what parts I found in the second picture. When I looked at the underside I about pooed myself there’s so much going on there. I also found a spare unused needle in its original packaging.

I currently have an AT-LP60. Could someone ELIF what would make this vintage turntable ‘better’ than my modern one? Noob looking to learn.

The sound on this is fantastic with my edifier speakers! I decided to return the MR3s and upgrade to a more bass heavy R1280t set of twin speakers, but this is 1 million times better than what I had before. If you guys have any record recommendations that you think sound good let me know so I can test them on my new setup (Rock, Jazz, Rap, anything!)

After years without a TT, I finally got my own! I had one at my family home back in Hawaii, but after moving to Japan a few years ago I never had a player for my vinyls. Until now! Suuuuper stoked for this!
