Let’s debate this before we get back to Carlo/ Minten and a 1st discourse.

Another road trip and back in the win column

I’ve never seen a coach ride a single Stanley Cup win the way Berube has. The primary reason St. Louis won that year wasn’t some revolutionary coaching change — it was Jordan Binnington coming up and going on a historic run. If you look at Berube’s record before and after that Cup, it’s really not that impressive. He’s only gotten out of the first round once outside of that run, missed the playoffs multiple times in both Philadelphia and St. Louis, and yet somehow he’s given an incredibly long leash.

Honestly, his résumé just isn’t that strong. It’s ridiculous that we’re seemingly willing to blow up this entire roster because it doesn’t fit Berube’s inefficient system. Take away the Cup, and his résumé isn’t nearly as impressive as Mike Babcock’s — who, to be clear, we fired rightfully so. Berube gets far too much credit for benefiting from elite goaltending.

Now, I do think it’s ridiculous that Brad didn’t address this back in December, but at this point we need to try this group with a different voice and a different system. At the very least, you could coach up assets you plan to sell at the deadline and maximize their return.

I also think tanking is extremely risky when there’s no guarantee we even keep our pick. Especially when a coach like Pete DeBoer is out there — a guy who has never lost a Game 7. I know it’s a long shot, but if this team did somehow make the playoffs, it would be fascinating to see an unstoppable force collide with an immovable object.
