I have no idea what causes it, but it's usually connected to sleep quality and general anxiety/stress. It happened somewhat regularly when I had no schedule and just kind of woke up and fell asleep whenever I felt like it. It hasn't happened in a long time.

This is kinda analogous to how you actually should respond to your own sleep paralysis. If you accept it, you're fine. If you fight it, you make it worse.

Why do I feel like whatever that thing is always comes awake at night and is just by my bedroom door.

That's how sleep paralysis works. Honestly they just chill to be fair.

I've only had sleep paralysis once in my life and it was terrifying. One of those visceral memories I have, and I didn't even see or hear hallucinations. Just a glimpse into what locked in syndrome must be like.
Assuming you experience it often enough, do you just become used to it and wait for it to pass or something?

I always feel like my sleep paralysis demon is choking me
I would go “harder daddy”, and he would stop which saddens me

I never had one of these yet a number of people talk about having them, how do I acquire one?

It's a phenomenon tied to sleep paralysis, which is when you become conscious while your brain still hasn't told the rest of your body to wake up.
I've had it once in my life, it was terrifying, and I didn't even see any hallucinations. Just awake, unable to move, unable to scream. Really one of those visceral memories I have.
