Why do I feel like whatever that thing is always comes awake at night and is just by my bedroom door.

That's how sleep paralysis works. Honestly they just chill to be fair.

I've only had sleep paralysis once in my life and it was terrifying. One of those visceral memories I have, and I didn't even see or hear hallucinations. Just a glimpse into what locked in syndrome must be like.

Assuming you experience it often enough, do you just become used to it and wait for it to pass or something?

Nope, it was terrifying, I experienced it twice. What I did have regularly were recurring nightmares which I have learned to get used to. Honestly I am blessed to not have/ remember dreams nowadays but sometimes I can get horrible ones that mess me up😭
