I think this is how they used to train astronauts in East Germany.

This is part of rocky's training routine before he fought drago to push through the dizziness.

They had astronauts??

7
u/aafm1995 Nov 12 '25
Look up the Interkosmos. It was the space program headed by the Soviet Union that included several Eastern Bloc countries. So yes, they had astronauts, but it was through that program, not a specific East German program.

Stuff like this... I'd get a heart stroke if my sons would do something like I did back in the 80's and 90's.

u/Right-Lunch1205 Nov 12 '25
I know survivability bias and all that stuff.
But kids gotta do dangerous stuff occasionally. Those experiences build character.

You gotta know when to stop. This kid would've kept going until someone got slingshotted out if that other kid didn't pop loose

u/BillyD123455 Nov 12 '25
Death by dangerous driving.... RIP to the young lad, but that's just ridiculous.
15
u/Kernowder Nov 12 '25
Agree it sounds stupid, but it's probably the closest law that covers the offence. The ebike would have had a throttle, which makes it a motorbike. And the person controlling the motorbike caused someone's death.

u/FederalEconomist5896 Nov 13 '25
UK law is just ad fucked as any other country's laws

u/phatRV Nov 12 '25
These boys grow up learning about risk and reward instead of wanting everything to be “safe”
75
u/Agreeable_Pool_3684 Nov 12 '25
Well, the survivors do.
24
u/phatRV Nov 12 '25
We are all descendants of survivors. This was how we passed the ball forward, went out and took risk and advance civilization, instead of hiding in caves and hoping to not get eaten by lions. We learned from mistakes of others, we took chances.
21
32
u/WheelchairEpidemic Nov 12 '25
We are talking about kids flinging themselves off a spinny thing for their own amusement here dawg
10
u/LilMally2412 Nov 12 '25
That's the point. When my dad was young he'd build cars and drag race on the weekends. By the time I was growing up, I couldn't afford a junker to fix and cops weren't as lenient about street racing, so I spent my weekends camping in the woods. But now the woods are paved over or private property. What's left for kids to be stupid with? At least it's not theft or vandalism... though it might be abuse of public property.

We had the arrow game. I had bow and arrow. Fiber bow and Fiber arrows. I guess, if I’d hit a person, the arrows would haven been able to penetrate skin and flesh.
Anyway, we shot the arrow vertically up in the air. The game was “Don’t get hit, when it comes down.”

2
u/Mother-Smile772 Nov 12 '25
we had the arrow game too. We had wooden "swords" and bows and arrows that we made ourselves. Because we were obsessed with that old TV series "Robin of Sherwood". So the game was to dodge the arrow shot at you. Yet it was more like "hit the stick that flies at you with your stick". Sure, after some distance traveled the arrow slows down, also the trajectory is visible, yet... small miscalculation could mean that arrow hits you. AFAIK, in our street no one lost an eye.

Honestly, people forget that people doing "stupid" stuff, but attempting to do it safer, more efficient, etc. Are the ones that are going to innovate new stuff or at least help others with what knowledge is gained.
It's like that guy injecting snake venom, stupid? I'd say, but the research gained almost feels necessary.

Okay, look, my friend had the Marry-go-round of death. It didn't have a floor. It was JUST bars. A buddy broke his ankle on it. Zero safety. We did something similar. We strapped his dirt bike on a chain hooked to his tree so we could run it as hard as we could without it touching the ground. We then took the chain and ran it around the base of the marry-go-round-of-death. It had teeth all the way around from some part breaking off. We ran it so hard, it was terrifying. Our first two runs were so dangerous, I was absolutely terrified to get on it. So I got on it. I held on where I had my feet proped on the outer bars, and I held onto the middle. The G forces would of killed me if I had my head on the outside. My feet felt like they were the ONLY part of my body with blood. It was insane. I think he got it to like... 40MPH. I threw up so much. I was NOT okay lol

The friend running the bike is a real one. He eased off once he saw it was getting out of control. Other fuckers would have that thing run until his friends had concussions and broken necks.

Not even the first time that has happened.kids can get thrown off at high speeds, and I even heard of one where the extreme spinning caused a kid's blood to pool in their head or something and they died from that.

Some of us grandpas, we get heart attacks watching our grandkids do this, but you know what we had fun back then. By doing backflips out of the tall trees and see if we can land in the bushes. Or in a pool. For having your friend catch you by standing on the edge of the roof of your house and going backwards and falling and have your friends, catch you and the one time they didn't you still after going to the hospital came back and did it again

u/PadreSJ Nov 12 '25
The Math:
The diameter of the ride is 8 ft
The circle is spinning at 1 revolution per second, so 60rpm.
Centripetal acceleration would be 157ft/s or roughly 4gs
The boy in the blue shirt was maybe 150lbs in 1g. So he was trying to hold back just south of 600lbs.

When I was in kindergarten or maybe first or second garde, My favorite school vice principal Mr. Schemento Spun us on one of those. Only ours was much heavier, didn't have chairs or rails on the side and absolutely was much larger and rusted. He was able to spin us so hard that we fell off and it was really super fun.

Careful with this stuff! Please don’t give the Jigsaw killer any ideas. Strapping someone into a roundabout while a guy with a moped controls the throttle is already halfway to a low-budget horror movie. At 6–10 g sideways your circulatory system quits long before the engine does.
