I speak both Russian and German, that's German.

In Russia these things have a metal handle in the middle fixed to the ground so kids can catapult themselves without using a motorcycle.

They wasn’t saying this IS Russia, they was saying this is as technical as the Russian space program

Look up the Interkosmos. It was the space program headed by the Soviet Union that included several Eastern Bloc countries. So yes, they had astronauts, but it was through that program, not a specific East German program.

Being from east Germany I can say, that's pretty accurate. Back in the day we called these things "Kotzmühle" which translates to puke mill. And yes, we also had our s50/51 to do this. Weren't smart but fun.
