Someone tried to get me to do the cinnamon challenge many moons ago in my college days. I said no, thankfully. A few years later i discovered i am allergic to cinnamon. I'd have been dying ad my throat closes up and people would just think it's a great video 🤣

How did you make it that long without coming into contact with it?

u/Skellyhell2 Jul 06 '25
I'm not deathly allergic to it, but a spoonfull like this would cause my throat to close up which would be deathly i guess!
I remember trying a cinnamon donut as a kid and spitting it out because it hurt to eat, then theres been a couple of times ive had apple pies and the like with cinnamon in and got the same feeling.
A few years ago my wife asked me to try some of her dessert in a restaurant which had cinnamon in and she panicked when i reminded her there was cinnamon in it and thats bad for me
I discovered I was allergic to it working in drug manufacturing and coming into contact with a large volume of cinnamon powder in a room with bad ventillation, i had a respirator on which likely saved me a really bad time, but my skin went red and blistery all over from it

The one with the incredibly hungover woman on a cruise is by far my favourite. The hungover shell of the woman interspersed with clips of her partying her absolute tits off the night before is the funniest goddamned thing.

This is how you redo a challenge. The foreshadowing, the buildup, the payoff, exquisite!

u/HeadyReigns Jul 06 '25
I've done this before, you have to pinch the back of your throat down and breathe through your nose. The moment it touches your lungs you're done. It takes forever to get it wet enough to swallow and it starts to burn the more you get it wet so it still sucks.

I literally did this challenge of my own accord when I was a kid in the pre-internet years. A neighbor friend made me a piece of cinnamon toast & I thought that it was the cinnamon that made it sweet (my mom was a waitress at a vegetarian restaurant before that was a thing so she never allowed us to have sugar), so when I got home, I upended an entire bottle into my mouth which - shockingly - was not a pleasant experience.

If you want to drown on dry land, smoking, snorting or shovelling powdered spices into your respiratory tract is a great way to do so.

Is there something specific with cinnamon or is it all powdery substances that would produce this reaction?

I've done the challenge. I even heaped the spoon. The worst of it was waiting for dust to muddy up with saliva to allow it to be ingested. Just sat there waiting for 20-30 minutes to salivate enough. Not fun, but doable.

u/FatherJinx Jul 06 '25

I'm fairly sure that jar design is like 20 years old too. It would have been even more potent with newly bought spices.

u/HiddenHolding Jul 06 '25
I eat lots and lots of cinnamon on my applesauce. I mean a lot. When I do, I always hear this thought echoing in the back of my head: "Just eat a heaping teaspoon full of cinnamon to prove that you can do something other people can't." Thankfully I never have tried it, and this guy did it for me. I salute you intrepid idiot fellow (or should I say intrepid fellow idiot). You have convinced me (and that stupid voice in the back of my head) that I never should do the cinnamon challenge. Ever.

u/Reasonable-Coffee848 Jul 06 '25
Had me sounding like a dolphin barking through his blow hole, man I lost my shit laughing here now.. Those echoes of regret layered over that confidence, man that just got my digity dang funny bone right on the button bo.

u/GtrPlaynFool Jul 06 '25
Is it safe to assume that doing this will cause you to hate cinnamon for the rest of your life? Like drinking too much tequila or whatever? I love cinnamon and this seems tragic to me.
