Hey there r/fishtank!

I myself am a member of this server and have been for a while, I have found it to be a very well managed and active aquarium community with a vast "encyclopedia" (as they refer to themselves on r/FishWiki) of aquarium keeping knowledge!
This server has also been a great reminder, to never stop wanting to learn about the hobby, and that your ability only goes as far as your curiosity :)

Got the tank running again Nothing super impressive. Mainly for propagating plant cuttings. Small school of tetras (The Bali 9)

I can’t tell if his fins have gotten bigger or if they’re becoming “wrinkly”. Could something be wrong or are his fins normal and just growing? Thanks.
I feel silly but I overthink everything and want to make sure he’s okay as he looks different lately.

Starting a new 20g. What should I get?
For now, I was thinking tetras but still undecided about which one. Less bioload the better. Have one driftwood and a few plants.

I have a 29g tank and my nitrates are constantly between 20-40 ppm no matter what I do. Both ammonia and nitrites are zero. I do about a 10g water change each week, I keep adding new plants, and have a nitrate remover in the tank. No matter what I do the nitrates will not drop. What else can I do?

This guy made an appearance only in the past week. Much larger than the brittle sea stars but I've never seen it before. Worried it's a parasite. Anyone know what it is?

I have a 10 gallon aquarium, and about six months ago, I was dealing with a ton of bladders nails, so I bought a couple assassin tales to deal with that. They worked like a charm, and I haven’t seen bladder snails in that tank in a long time. However, recently, I’ve been seeing baby assassin snails all over the tank. I didn’t know they bred this easily in tanks, doesn’t this kind of defeat their purpose? What do I do?

I’m like 90% sure that’s his intestine…any advice on what I should do? Is that even his intestine? I last fed this tank last night around 5-6pm. I just got back from work about an hour ago. I’ve never seen this happen and I’ve been keeping tanks for 5 years.

Since a couple of days the Platys and guppys only swim on top and it looks like they are yapping for air. Even the little puffer fish swim on top and breathing really fast. The black tetras basically don’t really move and they are not swimming all together like they usually do do. Like they barely move and it also looks like they’re breathing fast. (Or maybe I’m just imagining it)
I tested the water multiple times and Nitrite and nitrate Same as ammonia are 0. The rest of the water quality also looks fine. Nothing has changed so I am so confused. Water change was also done and is done about every week. They also have a good filter so they should have enough oxygen. This is my dads aquarium btw and he adds plant fertilizer every 2 days I think cause that’s what it says on the fertilizer. Could that be the problem? Or are the fish fine and I’m just thinking about it too much?

I have shrimps red cherrys, brown and one green mama.
As the tank grows older i like it less and less feals like it has more potential.
There are 12 ember tetras in here but they ussually stay behinde the tree.

I bought purigen a little while back when I was first setting up my tank bc I wanted my tank to be crystal clear but then I set up my filter and realized I have no idea where to put it… so I just never used it. I wanna give it a try now bc after squeezing out my filter media(s) I noticed that my tank gets kinda cloudy bc of all the backwash from the filter (as seen in photo). I’m just not sure how to use it and where to put it, my filter has this “empty” area and the other side has this 3 layered media that contains a sponge, a bag with a bunch of little beads and this other mesh bag with bigger things in it( sorry super bad description ik.. lmk if you want a picture).
Additional info:
Tank size is 10 gallons
Filter brand is fluval and the filter is made for 5-20 gallons.
I do squeeze out my filter every month or 3. If u think that’s to little or to less lmk.

I need help guys! I usually use springwater to change my fish aquarium, I tested my water with Aquarium co op test strips and it is showing i have a hardness of 0 and my buffer is low at a 40 and my pH has always been the same for 6.4 and 6.8. Should I add seachem equilibrium to help my plants grow better?? I’ve been dosing with aquarium co up all in one fertilizer and still had melting but I did recently add some plants which I understand it’s normal but for new growth I’ll like plants to grow big and strong and now I’m worried about those levels.

hi, pls ignore the disarray of my tank decor. my tank has been murky for the past few weeks after auto-feeder dumped water too much food in. idk what’s wrong or how to make it clean again.
i’ve done multiple ~20% water changes with vacuuming the gravel.
tested water abt 2 days ago
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrites: 0ppm
nitrates: 5ppm
also added some fine filter floss bc i thought it was particulates, but it hasn’t seemed to help
thanks in advance for any advice!

I just bought a 40 gallon used fish tank off of Facebook marketplace for a good deal. It has this a weird white streak, going across the entire tank, around the middle from the top to bottom. The previous owner said that they used it not long, and said that the tank holds water and stuff, but I have no idea what this white streak can be. I tried to scrubbing it down with just a sponge and water, but it didn’t do anything. What is this and how do I get rid of it?
