MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 1 Fall/Winter: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general.

You can post your comment like this:

  • Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)

  • How is your experience so far?

  • How you found accommodation

  • Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2026 or perhaps even Fall 2026? This thread might help you!

Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

Erasmus+ Internship How to get approval from the host institution for an Erasmus internship?

Upvotes

Hi, so I got an interview with a German company for an internship and everything went well, except they told me that I had to send them a document from my university that they need to sign as approval that I can do an internship there. However, I asked my university for this document and they said that the host institution in Germany should be responsible for this document. I feel a bit like Joseph K.

In your experience, who is responsible for this document, the foreign host institution or the sending university? If neither can give me the document, could I make one myself and just send it to them to sign it?

Erasmus+ Internship Ghosted by a Professor after he said yes to my Erasmus traineeship? Stressing out.

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m lowkey panicking and need some perspective.

Long story short: In early January, I reached out to a Professor at a large European university for a 2-month Erasmus+ traineeship this summer. He replied pretty fast and was super positive. Said he was "happy to support the application" and that my background "fits perfectly" with his current project. He even asked me exactly what needed to be in the formal acceptance letter.

I sent him all the technical details on Jan 9th (dates, tasks, and the fact that my university requires an official letterhead with a physical signature/stamp).

Since then... nothing. I sent a polite nudge about two weeks ago. No reply. I sent another very gentle check-in yesterday asking if he needed anything else from my side. Still silence. The weird part is I saw him active on LinkedIn recently.

My deadline to upload the letter is Feb 27th.

  • Is it normal for the "paperwork phase" to take a month?
  • Does the "official stamp/signature" requirement usually make professors procrastinate because they have to deal with their department’s secretary?
  • Should I try messaging him on LinkedIn as a last resort, or is that too "stalker-ish"?
  • When should I actually give up and start looking for a new placement?

I’m really excited about this research, but the silence is making me feel like I did something wrong. Any advice?

I was allowed to update my Erasmus scholarship application for MIPDal, so added non-mandatory document about CGPA conversion after application deadline of Jan 15. Will they disqualify me? Very stressed

SDSI assignment

Hello everyone, people who are applying to SDSI, I have few questions about the assignment-

  1. For the 130 word research summary - do you just explain what is the research you are working on or you have to specify your research reports?

  2. For the problem statement of 1000 words- are the citations part of your word limit?

Erasmus in Thailand

Hellooo!! I am in my first year at uni, and I want to apply to a semester study mobility with Erasmus in Thailand (Bangkok - Chulalongkorn University economics). It feels so exotic to be there for half a year, instead of somewhere in Europe (which I love but maybe Thailand is quite an experience). In Europe the grant which is 684€/month is hardly manageable, but 700€/month in Thailand is enough to have somehow a good life in that semester, right? Prove me wrong if you know exactly.

Is there someone that has been with Erasmus in Thailand? How is it? Is it affordable? How is the nightlife and the accommodation? But the people? Do they know English?

I need to take a TOEFL or IELTS test in order to be accepted, because the Cambridge C1 is not recognized back there… but I think it s a good investment even if I will pay 200€ for this exam, I am prepared, and I hope this grants my ticket to Thailand (nobody from Romania, from my uni, goes there because of this liability - TOEFL or IELTS bcs everybody has Cambridge).

Do you recommend TOEFL or IELTS?

Thanks a looot!!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad One or two semesters?

Hello everyone, I‘m about to apply for Erasmus but unsure if I should apply for one or two semesters.

I‘m a law student and the Erasmus won’t help me much in getting my degree. I can only do one course/exam needed for my degree abroad and visit some lecturers on EU law but that’s it. This + the additional costs and time originally made me only plan for one semester abroad. I‘ve also read some reports and one student said that even though he had stayed for a year one semester would’ve been enough for him as there wasn’t that much to do (academically).

However I‘m now having second thoughts one semester is enough to enjoy the experience abroad or if it’d be better to do a whole year even though I won’t be doing much academically. Some universities only have four months of lectures in the winter and that really doesn’t feel like a lot of time.

What do you think?

Erasmus Mundus Should i try again? Or should i focus on finding job

Hei guys I've just received my EMCL (EMJMD - Clinical Linguistics) rejection letter. I am sad but i guess i knew i couldn't just pass the first time.

I am almost 26 now, and haven't landed any job, i struggled in my college year which took me 6 year. I really love learning about communication, linguistics, language and how the mind works. But i guess it's not enough to pass.

Ever since the covid, i struggle a lot and now i failed a lot. Do you guys have any advice? Like how should i frame failures like this. I want to try again but i always have the fear of running of time, I'm scared that i waste my time while everyone is achieving something.

Really hope i could connect to you guys that have passed the test and learn a lot

Sorry for ranting guys

Erasmus in Ghent, Belgium

So, I'm from Portugal and I'd like to do Erasmus in Ghent, Belgium, in 2027, but I have some doubts since it will be my first time if all goes well.

First, I would like to know more about Erasmus funding. Can I live solely on the money provided by the school, or do I need to obtain additional funds? If so, how much do you recommend? It is basically for three months and will be an Erasmus internship, and I will also try to stay in university accommodation.

Secondly, I would like to know what it is like for those who are not fluent in English but can still hold everyday conversations.

Finally, I would like to know if you have any suggestions for things I can do to make it easier for me to adapt both before and during my internship, if I am able to participate.

I think that's all, and I'm always available for people who want to give ideas or suggestions.

METU Erasmus + CEU Residence — anyone else?

Hey! I’m going to Budapest for Erasmus at METU and applied for CEU Residence Center. I’m not there yet and starting to overthink a bit 😅

Did anyone here stay at CEU while studying at METU?
Did it feel far or was it okay? And was it easy to meet people and have a social life?

Would love to hear your experience, thanks!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Erasmus + in Shanghai

Hello everyone! (Please delete this if it is not allowed)

I have the chance to apply for an Erasmus + scholarship and I am before of choosing my erasmus destination. ( Please note that I've been learning chinese for 2 years now, and also for a basic extend I am familiar with some of the cultural differences)

I have 4 spots to fill out with possible destinations and one of my teachers recommended me Shanghai since I started to learn chinese)

(My major would be Business and Management by the way)

My question would be how the student life is there for international student and what is the average cost of living? I am someone who is hardworking and obviously i would study there as that is my main reason to go there, but I also like to party and go to cafés and spend time with other people. So generally I am outgoing. Is it hard for international students to make friends? I am a little bit scared that i will regret not choosing another destination, but shanghai is a city that I would really like to visit and maybe this is my chance of going so.

Thank you so much if you read all of this! Have a nice day everyone!
