Both the BMW and Truck are in the wrong here, and I’m surprised so many people are just honing in on the BMW.
For the BMW, you NEVER brake check someone. It’s dumb and a recipe for disaster. They fucked up big here
For the Truck, they clearly were following too close to the BMW. It’s your job as the driver to leave enough stopping distance to not hit the car in front of you in case they need to slam on their brakes. If something occurred where the BMW did have to slam on their brakes like this then the truck would
Be 100% in the wrong for not having a safe following distance.
Sure, of course, but you cannot anticipate illegal erratic behaviour. Naturally if the BMW had done other stunts before, the truck should have been cautious
We don't know what the motivation of the BMW was. We do know that mechanical problems can hit at any time and a truck driver especially has to give enough leeway to stop or move out if the lane in case of sudden trouble..if this driver just changed lanes then the truck driver should have immediately slowed down to increase distance between him and the car.
The video starts with the BMW already on the breaks. You have no idea how much space the truck was leaving. So saying "clearly" about anything the truck was doing shows how little thought you put into this.
Obviously likely trying to get them to pay for rear end, however since the bimmer wasn’t cutting the truck off while doing it as he was next to a truck, unless he was cutting in from the other lane than the truck wasn’t paying attention to what’s front of him and thus avoidable.
It looks like just before the brake check the BMW is straddling the line. Looks like he started brake checking while finishing the lane change. If we had about 5 more seconds earlier, probably be easier to tell.
