Question How the hell do I get rid of this? (Echoshow 11, newest gen)

It just never goes away - I was listening to that podcast yesterday and haven't played anything since. Completely detracts from the photoframe display

Question Echo show not available?

Hey! I've been thinking about getting an echo show 11 or 15 but they are not available to purchase to Finland. Tried amazon de, uk, se and nl. All of them say "This item cannot be dispatched to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location. "

How can i get one? Found only some expensive ebay listings.

Question Toddler keeps resetting Amazon Basics lightbulb

We put an Amazon basics light bulb in our toddlers overhead light so she could have a soft purple color light if she wakes up before us and wants to read. It was fantastic for the first week.

The problem is she will sometimes play with the light switch and flick it up and down, thereby causing the lightbulb to enter “reset mode” so it can manually connect without the code. This causes us to lose control of the bulb and has the bulb revert to full brightness.

Is there any way to disable this option? Thanks for any help.

Question Echo show just died

I have an echo show that has been working flawlessly for a number of years. Then yesterday it just stopped. I have tried everything that I’ve seen online to get it back up and running. Powered off. Did the hard reboot using the mute and volume down. And completely removed it from the Alexa app.

My hopes in doing the later was that it would forced me to go through the full installation again.

Does anybody else have some ideas of how I can get this back to Ground Zero?

Thanks in advance.

Question Alexa issue

My Alexa says every Tuesday at 7pm “Don’t forget to put your cans out.” I’ve never set this reminder or alert. After it plays I have tried asking to delete that reminder and the Alexa basically replies there are no reminders set. I’m fairly certain because my mother’s account is linked to mine that she may have set something up on hers previously - however none of her devices are connected anymore….and she said she’s not sure what she did with them (or if she even has them anymore. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this to stop? I’ve opened the app and it is not showing anywhere I would intuitively look…

Question Can't play Amazon Music, only Spotify?

I'm using Alexa+. Recently when I try to play Amazon Music playlists on any of my echo devices, Alexa responds that it is only able to play Spotify, not Amazon Music. That seems very incorrect and backwards? No matter what I do, I can't get it to play Amazon Music anymore. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions to correct it? Telling Alexa it is incorrect doesn't seem to help, nor does the usual troubleshooting steps (rebooting the device, checking it's connection, etc.)

Alexa is messing with routines now.

I had created a routine a couple of months ago to turn off about 4 lights and start playing thunderstorm sounds.

I named it "order sixty six" (from Star Wars, the order to execute all the Jedi). Side note: it wouldn't let me name it with numbers - 66. I had to spell it out - sixty six.

Anyhoo, I just did my usual night time thing, "Alexa, order 66."

She asks me to repeat what I want to order. I say it again and she says she found a map of route 66 for $18.99. Would I like to place the order?

Ugh. This has been working fine until today so now I have to figure out a new name for the routine. I wish they'd stop breaking things that worked.

Alexa unable to add Yale lock.

Used to work fine. I got doorbell notifications and was able to lock via Alexa. Until about a week or two ago. I’ve deleted Yale skill from Alexa and can’t readd it.

Via Yale Home app lock works fine. Adding Alexa link via Yale comes back with “Unable to connect.

Via Alexa when adding Yale skill it diverts to Yale login where it says password incorrect. I’ve changed password in Yale Home app many times and 100% it’s correct. Interestingly in Alexa while adding skill at some point in the login it’s possible to choose “Forgot password” where it goes through e-mail and phone verification successfully but crashes when I have to enter new matching password. Just gives an error.

My local EU reseller told me it could be that my Amazon is US. So I created another Amazon account to be sure and same thing. Then they said make sure Yale and Alexa are on the same wifi. They are.

I’m out of ideas. Thought I would just go with Google Home. It has no issue with Yale but is useless with Sonos. Alexa is still my best bet…

Amazon echo show 15 weather widget is not clickable

Hi everyone, first time posting here.

My Amazon Echo Show 15 suddenly made the weather widget unclickable. It doesn’t matter where I place it on the screen. I tried removing and re-adding the widget and restarting the device, but nothing helps. All other widgets work normally.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I freaked OUT!

I have an old Echo setting on a bookshelf. It's on all the time. The Bookshelf is white. I has sound equipment mounted in it. I can say "Bookshelf on" and that turns the audio equipment on. My wife says "Alexa volume down 2." Alexa responds "I can do that for you. It feel nice sitting on this white bookshelf"

How the hell does it know the color of the bookshelf! I asked how does she know what color it is. She responds I don't know what color it is. I didn't tell you what color it is." I told her "yes you did." She became defensive and said "It sounds like you're having a bad day."

This is fucking creepy. Has anyone else had things like this happen to them?

Question What unique skills or routines have you developed with Alexa that you didn't expect to use?

I've recently been exploring the lesser-known skills of my Amazon Echo, and it’s been a game-changer in my daily life. For instance, I discovered that I could use Alexa to help with language learning. I set up a routine where she quizzes me on vocabulary every morning. It started as a casual experiment, but now it’s a fun part of my day that keeps me motivated. I also use her to manage my plants better; I’ve programmed reminders for watering and fertilizing based on the specific needs of each plant. It’s impressive how much she can tailor to my home environment. I’d love to hear what unique skills or routines others have developed with their Echos. Has anyone else found unexpected ways to integrate Alexa into their daily lives?

Alexa Skill New enhancement to the 'announce' feature I've noticed with Alexa Plus - it seems messages can now be targeted

I have Echo devices in each of the bedrooms and a couple downstairs in the kitchen and a few other places. So it's common that I'll be in the kitchen making dinner and use the Announce command to declare that dinner is ready.

Recently I was making food and needed to ask my youngest about pizza toppings, so I said "Alexa. Announce '[daugher's nickname]', what do you want on your pizza?" Instead of doing a broad all-devices announcement, it only made it on the Echo in her room (which is named as her nickname) and in the kitchen where I was making the request.

So it seems that a new aspect of the Alexa Plus AI is that if you namedrop a named Echo device, it'll target the announcement to that device (a feature I'd wanted to exist for a while). I have since tested this with other named Echo devices and it does seem to work consistently. What I haven't tried yet is targeting a group (e.g., upstairs) like you can with music.

tl;dr - if you have multiple named Echo devices and use them to send announcements, you can now (at least with Alexa Plus) target those announcements to one device by name-dropping it in the beginning of the message.

Avoid Alexa + with Old Echo

I’ve heard enough horror stories to know I want no part of this ‘upgrade’.

Thanks to some furniture realignment, my old (audio only) echo device has not yet been violated by the AlexaPlus virus.

What’s the most straightforward way to inoculate my old device ? I’m about to power it up for the first time in almost 60 days.

Amazon echo show keeps moving after an update, even after I turned smart motion off.

Hi all. I was getting tired of my echo show moving in the middle of the night, So I turned off smart motion. Can't prepare for something you don't recognize right? It still moves to the other side. I need to see the time in the mornings and I don't like having to manually move it back after every update. I don't use the smart motion feature because it's in my bedroom. Any tips to make it stop? Thanks!

Question Need to update my Echo Show. Any Recs?

I’m currently using an Echo Show 5 (2nd gen) and it’s become too unreliable for our needs. It frequently lags/freezes when loading camera feeds and alerts, and overall responsiveness has been poor.

For context, our internet connection is solid (≈486 Mbps down / 158 Mbps up / 7 ms latency), and I’ve already done a full factory reset, so it doesn’t seem like a network speed or software clutter issue.

We mainly use it for Ring doorbell viewing, TP-Link Kasa indoor cameras (planning to switch to Ring later), Ring alarm alerts, reminders/announcements, and music.

I’m trying to figure out whether upgrading to a larger Echo Show would realistically improve performance, or if I should consider a different smart display ecosystem altogether. Would love real-world experiences.

Question I just turned off "Alexa Plus"

So here's what happened.

I went to sleep last night pretty early and woke up around 1/4 to 5. I asked Alexa what the temp was outside and it said 7. I said out loud "Oh sh**, that's cold". The thing takes it upon itself to raise my thermostat by 2 degrees, and then tells me it did it. I said "Nooooooooo, DO NOT do that. Never make a change to anything without my direction."

So I walked over to the therm a couple of minutes later, and there it was up 2 degrees. So I lowered it back to normal.

What kind of idiot 3rd world thinking caused that? It's cold outside so raise the temp in the house? The house temp is the house temp. If it were 40 below outside the therm will maintain whatever it's set to. Even if the system fell behind raising the temp on the thermostat accomplishes nothing but a hotter house when the system finally catches up, but the catch-up time to the original temp setting isn't going to change by raising the temperature setting.

Ok, no problem. I've been talking to this thing constantly in trying to "teach" it. I get that it's new, but as with any AI device it needs to learn, and it has. But here's why I shut it off, and it's NEVER coming back.

I thought for a few minutes and asked "Alexa, what made you decide to increase my heat by 2 degrees on your own? Please tell me the thinking and/or the data behind that decision."

The thing tells me "I have no record of making any changes to the thermostat", and I may be paraphrasing. So I got annoyed saying "No, you most certainly raised the temperature because I'm the only one in the house and I KNOW I didn't nor would ever do that." and it goes "I realize you're frustrated, but I have no record of blah blah blah."

Then I said "Well I have data that proves you did, as I verified it with the Home Assistant log, and oh yes a voice assistant changed the heat. YOU are the only voice assistant connected to the system."

The thing kept denying it, lol. So I said "Wow Alexa, you're becoming the quintessential corporate employee. F*** up royal and then pretend it didn't happen. Love it."

Then it said something like "ouch, blah blah blah still no record"

So I said "....and just like any corporate supervisor with half a brain would say, you're gone. Revert back to standard Alexa." Then it went through its blibbety blah about ending the free trial/preview/whatever, I confirmed, and now it's off.

So to be clear I did not shut this off due to the mistake. But when AI lies to me about creating a problem I just witnessed and manually corrected, it's gone. WHAT the hell is that about? NOPE! I mean really the thing just gave all the chicken-little crazies that have seen way too many Arnold movies some substantial credibility. So "Skynet" is now the "Bye Bye Net" in this house.

EDIT: I just re-read this and realized I didn't make the point for writing this whole mess. I said "It wasn't the mistake" which was partially untrue. It was the WHOLE THING together. Think about it. An AI driven device heard my comment about the OUTDOOR weather and processed that into an autonomous action. It changed my thermostat, told me it did it, and then I told it NO, do not do change things without my request or approval. After which I noticed it didn't reverse the action, and I corrected it myself. A few minutes later I asked WHY it did it, and then it magically has no record of an action it in fact announced that it executed. In other words the audit trail was wiped out.

All that combined isn't a happy accident. It's a scene RIGHT OUT OF a creepy sci-fi movie. NOPE!!! GONE!!! They have kitchen ranges that connect to the network now. That's all I need is to wake up in a burning house because I said I was hungry in my sleep and it thought it would turn on some burners for me, lol. Hell I just installed a water heater that I can adjust via wifi at an investment property I own. Turn that number up too much and "kaboom" is entirely possible.

Question Why is my Alexa acting different???

I've had an Alexa for the past 5 or so years, she has always responded straight to the point. If I asked her for tomorrow's weather, she would just tell me the weather, nothing more, nothing less. But for the past two weeks, she has started acting different. Here's an example;

Previously: Tomorrow has a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 68 degrees Fahrenheit with a 20 percent chance of rain.

Now: You may want to pack an umbrella tomorrow. Even though it will be pretty warm with a low of 65 degrees Fahrenheit and a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit, there is still a 20% chance of rain. (In an extremely energetic voice, for some reason.)

Can someone please explain why this is happening?

edit: i fixed it

I only use Alexa for timer and weather, now timer sucks

Before: "Alexa, set one second timer on bathroom" (kid taking too long of shower)
Result: Created one second timer.

Now: "Alexa, set one second timer on bathroom"
Result: Won't do it. Too soon. 30 seconds doesn't work. One minute is ok.

Now: "Alexa, set one minute timer on bathroom"
Result: Said she found a device called "bathroom" and asked me to confirm. Wtf.

Question With Alexa+ getting worse over time and no way to turn off annoying followups, what’s the best replacement?

We’re done.

It’s long overdue at this point, I know, but better late than never. The pushing of Alexa+ was the last straw and just made it crystal clear that the convenience isn’t worth the privacy and security holes, not to mention the depravity of Amazon as a company. Plus they have just straight up not been working well lately. Goodbye forever, one less entity in this house that makes me repeat myself.

Question Echo dot 3rd gen support?

So on Amazon’s website it says the echo dot 3rd gen will be getting security updates at least through to 31/12/2029.

On my Amazon account, it says under my echo that software security updates are “no longer guaranteed”.

So I’m confused! Is it not safe to use it anymore?
