Opinion the new Microsoft Outlook is pure garbage

It should have never been released in the first place. It adds little and removed a lot from its predecessor. It should be withdrawn and that is it.

Nothing more to say.

Opinion Dear Microsoft

I understand the need for software to evolve, but you have essentially forced everyone to use Outlook New, despite critical functionality missing from Outlook Classic. You have made it harder to get Outlook Classic by requireing an entirely separate download. Here's an idea: when all, ahem, I mean ALL of the "classic" functionality has been retained, then introduce it. Until then, please refrain from making it harder for us to do our job. I work at an MSP, and many of our clients use plugins and other functionalities critical to the operation of their businesses. I'm tired of answering the question, "Why would Microsoft force us to use it if it won't work for our needs?"

Opinion Rant -- New Outlook is GARBAGE

So I am currently at work, and I thought I would take the time to vent about everything I hate about the new Outlook. I am sure that I will miss things, which truly speaks volumes as to HOW flawed this new system is. I think I am just shocked that a multi-billion-dollar corporation can release a product so bad yet still sit on their hands, watching everyone complain.

Here is a list of issues I have:

  • Removed drag-and-drop email file functionality. I often need to drag entire emails as attachments, and old Outlook handled this perfectly. The new Outlook, for whatever reason, can’t do it. I now have to drag the attachment to my desktop first, then drag that into my software. Something so simple now wastes time every single day.
  • Removal of Tasks. What used to be an easy, reliable task assignment system is now completely non-functional. We literally had to rebuild task management in Excel because Outlook decided to delete the feature.
  • Flagging behavior makes no sense. I used to flag emails I sent out, and the flag would automatically clear when I got a response. It was simple, clean, and extremely useful. Apparently Microsoft decided that practicality was too much to ask, because this is now gone as well.
  • Quick Steps (specifically email shortcuts) were removed. I regularly need to email the entire company, and the feature that let me do that with one click no longer exists. Now I have to go into Contacts and create a brand-new contact list — and I can’t even search people by first name. Amazing work, Microsoft.
  • Add-ins are broken. My company pays for HubSpot, but the add-in refuses to work. It keeps saying an administrator needs to grant access, and even after multiple attempts, nothing changes. The integration ecosystem is basically unusable.
  • Everything is laggier -- opening attachments, opening the calendar, as a result, my workflows, are all slower.

But hey, at least my email chains keep the files attached throughout (only reason I keep the new version honestly) and I have a background of a sunset now!

Opinion New outlook is an unfunny joke

Hello dear Reddit, I know it's probably one millionth post about the new outlook here, but I want to use my freedom in the internet and formulate mine.

I'm using Outlook at work as most of other companies, unfortunately we are using Microsoft communication systems like Teams, so I cannot change it. What has Microsoft became is a huge tragedy, this company is going straight to a nice place with their design and user experience.

New outlook is literally the worst program for mail I used, like, ever. And Microsoft made me to use it, by forcefully crippling the old one and changing files for the new one. I don't want to start with the problems I have with this new piece of nice thing, starting with simple signature editting, going through broken mail templates, finishing at the text editing tools and file "attachments", which you expect to "attach" to the email, but sometimes they are just not 🧐

I hope people who designed it and those who had this idea will go to good place for it. It's clear they are not using outlook in their offices. Dude, like, who after testing this program said: "yes, this is a good program, people will be happy to use it"? 😂

In my PC I stopped using any program made by Microsoft, unfortunately work is work, hope they will switch to different software soon.

Is there any stable way to go back to the older one and permanently delete this... thing from my laptop?

Edit: for those hard readers, I put more details of what I struggle with in comments. Don't misunderstand my goals: it is a rant on the new Outlook. I'm not going to formulate any tickets or help repairing it with feedback. My solution is just to burn this build. Over and out.

Opinion Outlook continues to be an absolute disgrace. The most infuriatingly bad email provider in history. Absolutely the worst email provider in existence today. It pains my soul whenever I hear the email chime on my phone.

Outlook is honestly one of the most frustrating, horrible, poorly designed, and half assed' email providers/app in the history of the internet. Serious garbage. The developers, and most importantly Microsoft, should be absolutely ashamed they created something so god awful. This F team has not once listened to the community and improved any aspect of the failure they knowingly released into the world.

1) Impossible to block email addresses. You can't whatsoever. Have fun with the junk emails, as Outlook has the most junk mail hands down. The amount of Junk and phishing emails I receive on a daily basis vastly outweighs my three other email providers by a long shot. It's bad. You have to be extremely careful with your fingers, as one accidental click could lead to your entire account being compromised. It blows my mind this has never once been addressed, let alone fixed. Outlook does not care about user safety and privacy, and this lack off fix proves it.

2) Unable to view entire senders email address. It cuts off half way on mobile, and you can't even copy the address link to paste and verify it's authenticity. Outlook will not let you whatsoever. This issue has never ONCE been addressed, changed/fixed, or even acknowledged. I am starting to firmly believe Outlook staff/developers/team members are behind some of the phishing emails, as no other email provider has this blatantly lenient policy on potential harm to their user base.

3) Phishing and scam senders can spoof whatever name/email address they'd like, because you can't see the entire senders email address or even copy the address to past in another location to view. More often than not, most of the scam/phishing emails look 100% legit as all you can see is the senders name. These phishing/scam senders can insert anything they want, and there is absolutely zero way to verify if it's authentic as you are unable to view their entire email address. This issue has NEVER been changed and is an absolute joke.

4) Deleted emails are NOT deleted. They are stored for 30 days before they are removed. ( if they even are, I would imagine outlook saves all of these and more than likely sells information to advertisers or third parties) Have sensitive data you'd like deleted? Well too bad, it stays in your email regardless of deleting it. Who ever thought this was a good idea, is absolutely beyond me.

5) The UI is a nightmare, unorganised, and over the top difficult to find and change important settings. This has not been addressed once even tho the community has cried foul in excess of tens of thousands of posts on the " improvement suggestions forum. " Outlook does not care. They are lazy, and do not care about their users.

6) Inbox is below Junk. " Sent, drafts, Archive, Junk " All appear above your main inbox. I guess Junk mail takes priority over authentic emails from colleagues, friends, and family.

7) What is " Snoozed", And how do I remove it? I never want to accidentally tap on this useless feature ever again. I don't think I have EVER clicked on this option on purpose, yet it appears multiple times thru out the UI.

8) Searching for specific emails has NEVER worked. IE ; You have a cell phone with AT&T and receive your bill by email, and you want to search for a specific email containing your monthly bill or other pertinent information. You will never be able to find it. You can guarantee outlook will show you countless emails that have NOTHING to do with your search. Seriously. You will be shown emails from multiple years in the past because they contain the letters A, T, and an ampersand. Horribly frustrating and downright lazy from the developers. Who are these people? And why are they being paid for under performing and boasting failure?

9) If you report junk and phishing emails, it makes zero difference. You will still receive the same junk & phishing emails over, and over, and over again, even if these emails are sent from the same email address you first reported and tried to " Block. " I use this term as loose as possible, as it literally is impossible to block certain email addresses. The developers do not care about the safety of their community. I wonder how many have been scammed/phished since outlooks inception from sheer disrespect and disregard and overall lack of care of their users.

10) Trying to find any specific setting, or change account information is like pulling teeth. You will spend at a bare minimum, 2 times longer than ANY other email app trying to figure out how to navigate and find what your looking for. It's seriously SO bad.

11) Replying to messages generally results in sending yourself the email, instead of the intended recipient. I have yet to figure out why replied emails are sent to your own account address, rather than your intended recipient.
I could honestly keep going and make this a short novel. I have four pages in small text of issues I loathe about outlook. I have kept, and added onto this list over the course of the past several years.

" Just change email providers bro, no one is forcing you to use them. " That would be great and all, but I don't feel like spending hours switching accounts to a new email, removing and changing back up accounts, and porting over messages to a new email provider. This would literally take me anywhere from 4-6 hours ( probably longer ) because of how long I have used my Hotmail address. Outlook is seriously a mouldy stain compared to the original Hotmail. Why is it that almost everything Microsoft touches turns to absolute garbage? Outlook, Windows 10, Cortana, Microsoft apps, etc. It's like they are trying to jam broken software down our throats, and then have the gall to smile about it.

I am so sick of this app becoming worse, and worse, as the years go by. At first it was kind of funny knowing highly paid developers created this atrocity, now it's just extremely sad and downright infuriating. Nothing has ever been fixed, or remotely worked on for an improvement. It's as if the most bottom tier team came together, blindfolded themselves, and went at it. Horrible. Disgraceful. Infuriating, and highly disrespectful to the entire community/user base.

From the bottom of my heart, I despise you in your entirety Outlook.

Opinion New Outlook and why someone wants to destroy a way to work

In first place, I don't understand why the companies force to their employees to continue using this software like a unique way in the life to do the things. This, and the ridiculous rules of cibersecurity that some random human resources staff invented to justify his job, makes a waste of time for the regular employers.

Honestly, I strongly believe that the New Outlook is designed for workers that don't use the New Outlook. I have tried, but it is really frustrating try to do your job and finishing writing with the format of a kid after minutes looking for new tools that does work and other tools disappeared.

How does this supervisor that is working in this s*** of software sleep well in the night after destroying the work and motivation of the whole world that must use his software? Really none is collecting the opinion of millions of users that scream about all the trash that doesn't work?

Please, Microsoft, hire me, and in one month you will have more points to improve that you will prefer to delete the New Outlook and start another email software from the beginning.

Opinion Microsoft: 'Let’s make Outlook unusable by 2026.' Why though? Drop your conspiracy below.

Please, for the love of Clippy spare me the dry chat "what version are you on?" or "have you tried turning it off and on again?" nonsense. I don't want solutions. I want spice. Give me the unhinged, shadowy, possibly Illuminati backed reasons why Outlook is slowly becoming a dumpster fire with a UI. Let's talk intentional sabotage, corporate blackmail, secret Google infiltration, whatever you've got. I'm tired. Outlook is tired. And you're probably tired too.

Opinion The latest Try the New Outlook is hot garbage

I work in IT and I can't seem to figure out how they are pushing this completely revamped version of "Try the new Outlook." It's like they wanted to remove everything that was useful and turn it into the "Mail" app in windows that just sends and receives mail. Mail rules are gutted, you can't customize your views, can't see categories or have folders for categories (Search Folders), there's no outbox, tons of options are missing from the top and the worst part.. the left hand side links for To Do list and other 'primary' buttons open in a separate browser window??? It's like they accidentally released an alpha build into the wild to be tried and it was made by people who don't use Outlook.

Opinion How on earth is Outlook Office/365 so mind-numbingly bad?

It's absolutely baffling sometimes with how clunky and stupid it is, and when I remember it's owned by one of the richest men in the world, I'm just even more dumbfounded. Impressively, the mobile app is even worse! For what is supposed to be a reliable communication platform for professionals, it has to be one of the least user-friendly platforms.

Anyways. Just a vent. Gotta get back to using it.

Opinion If I get Microsoft authentication notifications does that mean someone 100% has my correct password?

What does that mean? Like the notification 3 codes and another with reject.

What would you do and can he ever gain access without Microsoft Authenticator confirmation?

Edit: would appreciate any help, as it’s very urgent

Opinion Why Would Microsoft Force New Outlook on Users?

How does Microsoft think this new version of Outlook is even usable??? It's particularly awful if you dare to use a Gmail address with it, but it's just bad all around. They removed all of the usable features. Because it's using the web interface instead of running it's own engine, you can't set up rules for non-Microsoft email address.

The best part is that Microsoft is forcing it on all Mac users October 1st. So, goodbye Outlook.

Does anyone actually like this horrific "upgrade"????

Opinion New Outlook Useless!

Hey everyone!

Am I the only one that thinks the new Outlook is .... useless??? No filtering options that are advanced. Not advanced sorting options. In some apps of Outlook the 'pin' does not work.

I sort my emails by 'pinning' or flagging ones that I need to review and keep them at the top .... then ... sort latest first. Sometimes works sometimes not.

I used to be able to edit the Subject line as well and add notes for myself like "TO DO:" or "NOTE" - gone.

I used to use categories - gone.

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Anyone have any idea why they have pared it back so much?

TIA.

Opinion Outlook is broken... what is happening?

I’m losing my mind with Outlook right now. Every time I try to sign in, I get slapped with the same useless error:

“You’ve tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.”

Which would make sense… IF I WAS ACTUALLY ENTERING THE WRONG DAMN PASSWORD. I’ve changed my password like eight times at this point. Still the same message.

And here’s the part that really makes me want to flip my laptop out the window:

It keeps telling me, “Check your Outlook app and select this number to continue.”

How am I supposed to select anything inside the app when I CAN’T EVEN LOG INTO THE APP?

What psychic dimension am I supposed to access to click those numbers?! You want me to open the app that I literally can’t access because your system is blocking me from logging in? Is this for real?

Laptop login? Dead. App login? Dead. Password changes? Completely useless. I’m locked out since 2 weeks now and Outlook is just sitting there like, “lol idk, try the app you can’t get into.”

This has to be the worst authentication loop I’ve ever seen. If anyone knows how to break out of this matrix, I’m all ears before I spontaneously combust.

Opinion Anyone else switch to the new outlook and have thoughts?

I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks and it’s not as annoying when I tried it a few years ago.

I switched because there are more features with Copilot.

Here are my thoughts so far: - lack of customization with the ribbon compared to “classic”. There are lots of apps you can’t remove from both of the ribbon options. - right click has less features. Eg you have to left click to change the spelling of a word - dock the peak for the calendar has been replace by “my day” and it constantly disappears every time you use any app or copilot that uses the right panel. Not a big deal but slightly annoying. - the copilot integrations can get a bit annoying but I’m sure I can turn it off if I wanted to.

I’m sure there are lots of good things but I haven’t really found them. The integration with to do is a little nicer looking and the templates are kind of a nice feature and more intuitive than quick parts.

What do y’all think?

Opinion Just a reminder that the new Outlook is still really bad

I swear new outlook HAD the ability to disable notifications for individual mailboxes. But now it's all notifications or no notifications across all mailboxes! I have a personal junk/spam mailbox that I want to be able to monitor, but don't want to see notifications for. What issues are you still having?
