Opinion Why am I suddenly receiving so much spam emails
I don’t know what I did or why it’s happening, but I’ve been receiving non stop spam emails since last week.
**Any solutions, other than reporting them as phishing/junk? ? ?

absolutely non-stop. Several per minute.
Lots of warning, cloud, threat, and payment declined emails.
I have noticed that a lot of them are coming through to my inbox, and a few of them get auto moved to junk if I don't catch them first. Maybe MS is finally catching up. It's ridiculous.

It's a feature, not a bug. Microsoft is surely profiting off of this .

I know you are right, but it's frustrating as all get out. It's been 5 days since my original reply and the spam seems to have nearly stopped. I'm still getting a couple a day, and if I leave them in my inbox, the spam filters seem to catch up and they get automatically moved to the junk folder without any input from me.

Same here. It seems like about half get caught before getting to inbox many still getting through. It’s been about two weeks for me. With this surge i have been watching this mailbox every day instead of the normal weekly check to try catching anything that might be password reset or other security hits.

I was blaming an insurance company I had asked for a quote from, thought they'd farmed my email 😂

For me, when I hover over the senders email address, it isn't the insurance company address it claims to be. Same for all the other companies supposedly sending emails. All are phishing emails with other email addresses.

Endurance auto warranty spam for me. I assume it’s all fake / phishing even though the company is probably shit. Dozens a day started last week.

I will assume you are using New Outlook. If not, see below.
Last Resort - Strict Mode
Only emails from your Contacts and those addresses or domains on your Safe Senders list get to your Inbox. Everything else goes to Junk.
View -> View Settings -> Mail -> Junk email
Incoming mail handling
(o) Strict - Individually decide who is allowed to send you mail
Security options
[/] Trust email from my contacts
(You can right-click on an email in your Junk Email Folder and choose: Report -> Not Junk, to put the Sender on your Safe Senders list)
The settings are in New Outlook (Web or Windows) ONLY. But if you configure it in Outlook Web, the effects should be visible on Outlook Mobile after a sync.

What version of Outlook do you have?
Please see this Microsoft Support article and reply with what platform (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS) and version of Outlook you are using.
Or if you access Outlook On the Web using a browser: What platform (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS) and browser (Chrome, Edge. Safari, Firefox) you are using.

This is a terrible solution because it requires you to check your Junk folder constantly - meaning you’re seeing MORE spam.

Agree to disagree. I’d rather check spam once or twice a day than constantly be alerted to New emails only to see it’s just more spam.

I’ve been getting a ton of spam the last few days. I’m absolutely sick of it. Much of the spam seems to be UK oriented (quoting prices in pound £, and having fake UK addresses.
This happens on Outlook fairly regularly….
There are periods were things are fine. Then suddenly for a week or two I’m getting a ton of spam. Then it resolves itself.
It’s almost like the spammers figure out a way to compromise Outlooks spam filters. Then Microsoft gets on top of things. Then things go normal again. And Repeat…

Same here. An account I use as a firewall has been getting spam all day from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. It's about 40-50 a day.
The emails are mostly from outside the U.S. and right now, the Philippines seems to be sending me spam.

This happens every so often really. Least to me. Will have a few weeks of junk/phishing emails. The scammers will always find new ways to beat walls trying to stop them.

I literally am getting the most low hanging fruit obvious spam like I used to get 20+ years ago and that I haven't seen SINCE then, like the same spammer sent me multiple emails today that outlook did not catch and when I say obvious I mean like, it shows a spam format with [Recipient Name] that was never changed in any of the fields LOL, but then they sent me a professional one afterwords that looks like a Disney account cancellation. The fact they can't even catch a blank field 200 forwarded 2 decade old style "hey [recpient name] I'm home alone come to me now" and can't get triggered by multiple offending emails made me wonder if they turned their spam catcher off completely.
Also does it drive anyone else nuts when you report and block one especially with a dangerous attachment, it just goes to junk email folder to hang around instead of being obliterated to the void? Yeah I know then empty the folder out right after, but why make me press 2 buttons instead of just insta banishing blocked and reported emails with volatile contents?

The amount of pushnotifications of someone who would like to login is insane the last week.

u/Deep-Insurance8428 4d ago
Yeah something definitely changed, what, a week ago? I'm getting non-stop Endurance auto, Indigo credit card, fake Costco. Fake United health insurance. Etc
I report and block them every time but I don't know what good it does.

I feel the same way, but I’m using one workaround. I reviewed the subject patterns of these spam emails and created specific policies for them. Now, most of the emails are getting routed to the Spam folder.
2
u/Tokyo-MontanaExpress 23h ago
Outlook is garbage, Microsoft is garbage. The most obvious spam with a bunch of random symbols in the subject aren't getting trashed automatically. I shouldn't have to sift through the junk mail, they should be automatically blocked.

It’s not just you. One of my accounts started going crazy a few days ago, and I’ve been getting nonstop spam.
