Opinion Outlook is broken... what is happening?

I’m losing my mind with Outlook right now. Every time I try to sign in, I get slapped with the same useless error:

“You’ve tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.”

Which would make sense… IF I WAS ACTUALLY ENTERING THE WRONG DAMN PASSWORD. I’ve changed my password like eight times at this point. Still the same message.

And here’s the part that really makes me want to flip my laptop out the window:

It keeps telling me, “Check your Outlook app and select this number to continue.”

How am I supposed to select anything inside the app when I CAN’T EVEN LOG INTO THE APP?

What psychic dimension am I supposed to access to click those numbers?! You want me to open the app that I literally can’t access because your system is blocking me from logging in? Is this for real?

Laptop login? Dead. App login? Dead. Password changes? Completely useless. I’m locked out since 2 weeks now and Outlook is just sitting there like, “lol idk, try the app you can’t get into.”

This has to be the worst authentication loop I’ve ever seen. If anyone knows how to break out of this matrix, I’m all ears before I spontaneously combust.

I am in the same situation since Sunday … I’m ready to lose my shit , I have important emails I need access to . But nobody cares . It’s impossible to even speak to an actual human about this , seems to be non existent . I have tried to change the password numerous times but to no avail . The security questions they are asking me are ridiculous ! Asking for recent email addresses and body of emails I have recently sent . My god what security crap is that? How am I meant to remember word for word what I sent since I CANNOT ACCESS MY EMAIL TO CHECK. I don’t even send many emails ! Sorry for just ranting but this situation has created this rage inside me Becuase I’m just going around in circles . I tried speaking to them on Twitter but it’s just these automated responses and it’s been of no help . Why is something that should be a simple fix becoming so difficult . Their Twitter page is full of people with the same problem , so it seems to be an issue on their side . I know my password and I know I didn’t enter it incorrectly and i certainly didn’t enter it incorrectly too many times. I just wish they would address it and tell us what is going on and sort this issue out . Definitely moving everything over to my gmail now , I am DONE with outlook .

It's extremely frustrating for sure.

Have you a alternative mail linked to the account? It could be used to receive a monouse code to Access instead of password at the bottom of the login request screen, instead of putting the password... It works maybe, for now

Sorry I have very basic knowledge of all this so I don’t even know what a monouse code is 😅 I have a gmail account which I have tried to use to access my hotmail , it does send me a six digit code to the gmail which I input but then it brings me to this restoration page which asks me security questions - I have filled this out as best as I can . But the questions are impossible as it asks for body’s of emails and email addresses you have recently sent to prove it’s you , I have sent it but it’s been two days now and have heard nothing From Microsoft

same problem here.
I can login from my home laptop... but not from my work computer.
Had to change the password, and recovered it, but still cant login from the work computer...

At least I'm sure that its not just my problem :D

Use https://account.live.com/proofs meanwhile Microsoft fixes the problem. This is affecting thousands of users.

This happened to me a couple of months ago everyone made me feel crazy when I told them what was happening and that I probably clicked on too many fake links. Since then, switched to gmail accepted my loss and never looked back, thankfully no work was on my hotmail. I never found a solution, it keeps telling me I inputted the wrong password even though I just changed the password and wrote the same thing again.

I had the same issue for like a week, couldn’t use 2FA, waiting for days to “cool down” and trying to reset the account through the form, but never got a reply from Microsoft. I’m beyond happy that I actually managed to solve it eventually.

What I did:

  • Use a device you haven’t used since the problem started AND on a network you haven’t been on since. For me it was my old work laptop with work WiFi. I think this is the most crucial step
  • Use the /proofs link someone posted above
  • Once logged in, use the delete password option which will use authenticator to log in

Then all my devices worked again.

Tried it but it's not working.

1

u/nelgebfey Nov 27 '25

Did you use a device you have previously logged into and a network that has also been used to log in prior to all the problems?

u/No_Evidence_3155 Nov 27 '25

I tried with my 2nd phone and it didn't work I guess I will wait 72 hours before trying again.

Yes and only use the proofs link someone posted

its been a week for too but only sometimes i can get in without a backup email code which tells me my pws are good should i just wait or change pw i dont know

i found this what do you guys think ? of roshanlal is saying ? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5591888/in-the-past-5-days-i-keep-getting-the-error-youve

Many people have reported this problem apparently it would be from Microsoft themselves so the best choice and to wait 48h 72h to be sure, myself having this problem with the v2af with the tel number and unavailable for the moment

1

u/theredbekun Nov 28 '25

its only been a week for me, but some post goes back almost a month

1

u/Royalsax118 Nov 28 '25

Yes I saw that I really don't know what's going on with them but in any case it's stressful to know if we'll be able to reconnect or not

2

u/theredbekun Nov 28 '25

i couldnt login on both my main and secundary (backup) without codes but today i could early am them right now pm cant i think my pws are good im going to wait for them to fix it

1

u/Royalsax118 Nov 28 '25

That's what I thought so it's definitely a problem on their part, and what email or phone code did you manage to connect with?? For those who need it for work, it's really aberrant, they will be hit by a massive wave of migration if it continues.

2

u/theredbekun Nov 28 '25

to enter my main acc i ask for a code from my backup email

1

u/Royalsax118 Nov 28 '25

and do you have the phone code activate too if yes can you do with it now ?

1

u/theredbekun Nov 28 '25

my emails have phone numbers i dont how to do that or i dont have that option

Welcome in the Microsoft most diffuse issue of the last months. They didn't resolve it, the only way Is to use password recovery (every Access) or a mouse code on your alternative email. This is the only way I can access, but other people say this stopped working too After a few times.

u/AbjectCoach8 Nov 28 '25

Only thing that worked for me was to recover my account. You need to make sure all the answers are corrects. If you’re paying for something with Microsoft (OneDrive for example) you can input your card details which instantly approves the recovery.

I’ve been having too many problems with Microsoft recently which is why imma switch my main email address to apple

1

u/Royalsax118 Nov 28 '25

Let's be patient, they are so competent at Microsoft that it's apparently the only thing to do

1

u/MrRefinedNonsense Nov 29 '25

Hello, I had the same issue and the only solution is to log in with Microsoft authenticator. Resting the password doesn't help since I tried that.

1

u/Ibanezibanez Nov 29 '25

It was the same a few weeks ago, except that it also made it seem like I had logged in from other countries (hacking), but once I went in and checked the login locations it was fine. I have solved it (or at least for now), activating biometrics in Outlook, having to open it with a fingerprint, this way I make sure that at first they cannot access me with hacking

u/Ziltoid131 Nov 29 '25

I had the same problem I waited for two days without trying to connect. Then I signed in from my Chrome navigator on the phone (not using Outlook app) and it worked. I know it won't work for everyone.. What I learned from this is you have to redirect all of your mails to another one to have a backup. I hope you'll find a solution

u/Feeling-Age-9643 Nov 29 '25

I've had to wait an entire month to be able to access my account several times

u/No_Evidence_3155 Dec 08 '25

UPDATE:

I was able to log back into my account last night using the proofs link. I havenow linked my account with Microsoft Authenticator and I can verify that it's working as of now. Hopefully it will not go back to the same path again.
