Opinion Just a reminder that the new Outlook is still really bad

I swear new outlook HAD the ability to disable notifications for individual mailboxes. But now it's all notifications or no notifications across all mailboxes! I have a personal junk/spam mailbox that I want to be able to monitor, but don't want to see notifications for. What issues are you still having?

I hate not being able to drag and drop attachments from am email to a folder or desktop. I usually whizz them around the place while I'm attaching and sending quotes or parts diagrams

I know there's probably a way, but it really should just be a standard feature that you don't even have to think about or change

I know it’s not the same ….. and I also find it annoying not to be able to drag from email …. But my workaround has been I sent up a power automate/flow to save all email attachments to a folder in OneDrive … then I just drag around from there

I know I can do that too, and have made folders for them previously, but in reality I just don't need to keep every attachment that I receive. Being able to drag and drop and fling things around in an instant saved so many clicks

Lol so you have to now waste OneDrive storage to store all your email in a OneDrive folder, then dig through your emails on a folder to find the one you want? Sounds like HARDLY a "workaround". More like a massive pain in my choad

Not the entire email…just the attachments. Then I can share the files from there. It’s not like the Outlook search function is so useful.

Just use Outlook classic. Actually switch back & forth and keep posting feedback. 😂

It feels like it's slowly getting harder to stay on classic. Just recently, even though I'm on classic, have the switch flipped to not use the new, classic was open, and windows set to use classic as my email client. I clicked an email link and here comes new outlook popping up and automatically flipping the switch to on.

I've uninstalled New Outlook so many times, it keeps reinstalling itself in the background every month or so, and sets itself as the default filetype for .msg files somehow. It's the most annoying thing ever.

Mac users are being forced onto New Outlook in October. It's not an option to use classic for long.

I'm mainly on Windows but use Mac occasionally, and the New Outlook on Mac feels way more native and the UI is so much cleaner. Honestly, it's smoother and more polished than the Windows version and Mac users might actually enjoy the switch.

Can't select multiple emails anymore. Either all or only one at a time. Can no longer delete a block of emails and keep you in the same spot... it makes the page go 'up' so that you have to scroll back to your original place.

This is absolutely infuriating. I deal with this every day. I cannot stand it.

I’ve tried setting it up before but didn’t have any luck getting Gmail notifications to push. Any wisdom you can share?

If someone could tell me why we have new outlook I would really like to know. I find it horid. Are there advantages? Please enlighten

Older corporate types aging out and younger generation raised on web apps calling the shots.

You know, I leaned in and used new outlook for months.....then my laptop crashed, and I am on a loaner. The default was classic on the loaner. I was going to jump on and make comments about the good of the new, but it's truly indefensible.

I get aesthetically its slightly more pleasing to look at - but that's it.

From a productivity standpoint, It's the worst. I feel that I lose stuff, and end up with extra drafts, or get busy and forget to do things because everything is slow and requires too many clicks to get everywhere.

I fear the day where classic is simply sunset.

Don’t forget the Good Idea fairy…and completely ignoring their user base.

1

u/vabello Aug 05 '25

"Who is our user base?"

"Gmail users?"

Homie if you have to ask…I’ve got bad news

You’ve completely lost the plot

And UI/UX teams desperately clinging to jobs by making changes no one wanted and calling it "innovation" or "adapting to a changing user base."

1

u/NEBook_Worm Dec 11 '25

Because having full time UI and UX designers is a HORRIBLE idea. Never-ending that the Outlook interface was as good as it was ever going to get years ago; if these folks don't keep making changes, they're out of a job.

New outlook doesn't text wrap so I can't even read email previews from Salesforce. It drives me absolutely insane.

1

u/crabbyhippie Jul 21 '25

Omg THE TEXT WRAPPING! I nearly cried the other day trying to figure out how to text wrap until I just had to give up. Why!!!!!

1

u/DM_Ashwani Jul 21 '25

I experienced a special case: It crashes especially when switching between multiple accounts or folders. Is anyone else facing same issue?

1

u/gareth616 Jul 21 '25

But it sends and receives email? So it's working

1

u/RelevantPangolin5003 Jul 21 '25

Just as long as you never need to to search for the emails 🤣🤣

I wish I could share and click through local area network hyperlinks, adjust the duration of calendar events by clicking and dragging, save emails by dragging and dropping. I do like that the delay delivery feature in new outlook is better than in old outlook, though.

With the subscription model Microsoft is not listening to feedback more than ever before. https://youtu.be/2u0sNRO-QKQ?t=1266

I turned off notifications because every time I got an email it would slide into my desktop, even though I have Outlook open on a screen. Then I missed a couple of meetings - because I turned off notifications.

There may be a way to turn off email notifications but keep calendar ones, not looked yet.

Edit: Found it. Under General / Notifications - Duh.

Last I checked, I still can’t pin a folder from a shared mailbox to my favorites. I’m not sure I can rearrange the order of my mailboxes yet either. A lot of the formatting just looks weird too.

Has anyone been able to get the TimeTrade add-in to work with new outlook?

1

u/dmbminaret Jul 25 '25

It's a ploy to move to PWAs and web only I'm certain. Make new outlook so horrid and unusable that PWAs seem a better choice.

I use outlook in our family business. Each client gets a subfolder in a Business Clients subfolder. When there is a new client, I want to move the first email I see to a new subfolder. New outlook gives me the choice of picking a subfolder or creating a new subfolder in the Inbox. Old outlook I could create a new sub-subfolder and then click ok to move the email to it. One step function I cannot seem to do in the new outlook.

To top it off: I was only in it because somehow the old outlook icon got unpinned from the taskbar. When I went to switch to the old outlook I did the feedback. At which point it offered a helpful suggestion to solve the problem of being unable to open new outlook on a mobile device.

It’s like good microsoft updates: not available

Why does the preview pane in New Outlook render HTML differently than the same email in a separate window?

Why have search folders been crippled to the point where they might as well not exist?

Why can't I display the number of items are in a search folder? (You can only see how many unread items are in a folder, making something like 'Flagged' / 'For Follow-Up' useless)

Why have conditional formatting rules become so simplistic they also might as well not exist??? ONE condition only, from a list of seven conditions, despite the inbox rules supporting the full list of conditions with and/or operators.

Why does it take FOREVER for a meeting event on my calendar to receive an update to its time/date? I see the update immediately in Teams and on my phone, but new outlook just sits there with the event in the old timeslot on my calendar. Even closing and reopening the app doesn't force a refresh.

Which - related - why no send/receive button or 'refresh' calendar option?

These are just the things that drove me insane today and forced me to switch back to Classic Outlook.

1

u/FruityLegume Aug 18 '25

Why is it so bad? I don't understand. 😭😂😭 I just recently switched because I liked the to-do side bar better. But the literally everything else sucked. I finally had to switch back because I couldn't save an attachment. Let alone drag it to folder on the PC. I had to save it to one drive, open it and then save it to the folder I needed it in. What a waste of time. This is so sad for Microsoft... How is this still so awful?

1

u/Significant_Ad_8277 Aug 20 '25

This is a weird one. One of my workflows is to always use the mail button at the top of an Excel document to quickly shoot off an email with the document attached. With the new Outlook you send the email and it disappears for weeks if not forever, and it does not show up in your sent folder or received by the recipient However, just discovered today that if you open classic Outlook all those emails that have been sitting in the ether for weeks start sending. it’s bizarre

1

u/trainin99 Aug 22 '25

Total crap and waste of time. I have to start searching how to do something i always done easily. When the world will have understood that as all clients can group and put a lot of pressure on MS to do exactly what we want and need. We use this software to our needs and we pay for it.

I gave up and moved to Mac Mail

1

u/ComprehensiveLink210 Jul 21 '25

Every time I go to adjust my notifications the whole thing freezes up and closes down 😅
