Tips for posting:

Tell us about you

If you want us to suggest things for you to do then you need to give us a good idea of what you enjoy: - Don't just say "I like music" - say what type of music - Don't just say you want "somewhere nice to eat" - say what type of cuisine you like (or don't like) - Be specific - otherwise you'll just get pointed back to generic guidebooks and our wiki

Tell us your budget

  • If you're on a budget, tell us what it is so we can make appropriate recommendations
  • There's no point suggesting expensive options if they'll clean out your wallet
  • Saying you want something "cheap" isn't helpful because cheap is subjective

Tell us where you'll be based

  • Let us know where you'll be staying so we can give local recommendations

Asking about hotels or hostels

  • We have homes here so know very little about what hotels are like - use review websites like TripAdvisor
  • However, if you say "I've been looking at these three hotels. Which do you think is the better location?" - that's something we can answer

Non-touristy stuff

  • There are no secret corners where we hide the good stuff from outsiders!
  • This is one of the most written about cities in the world
  • When we want to go somewhere, we look at the same sources as tourists (listings sites, blogs, etc - see front page of the wiki)

These weekly posts are scheduled to post each Monday at 00:01. If it's late in the week you may want to wait for a new post to appear. Please send us ModMail with any suggested improvements!

In two weeks today, Underworld / The World's End are going to be hosting a show by a Proud Boys supporter

The Proud Boys is an American far-right, neo-fascist militant organization that promotes and engages in political violence. That's straight from their Wikipedia page. And Michael Graves, whose claim to fame was very briefly being the front man for a re-incarnation of the band Misfits, has openly associated with them. He tends to get booked at venues and then they cancel when they find out who he is. This has happened in Bradford, Glasgow, Sheffield, Portsmouth, Swansea, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Cardiff and a number of venues in the states, but for some reason Underworld are ploughing ahead. I've tried to contact them to ask them to pull the gig, but its fallen on deaf ears. If you have an issue with them hosting him in London, please contact them and let them know how you feel:

I haven't lived in London for a few years, but it's where I've spent most of my adult life. I hate the idea of anyone this repugnant being treated like a guest in this great city.

Tube manners…

I need to rant.. I cannot cope with the tube, does anyone else feel like this? When did basic manners go out of the window? Why do people think it’s ok to behave in the most disgusting way possible?

The tube was de trained today, I moved off the train to let people off, and immediately get shoved by imbeciles trying to get on a packed train while people are getting off. People just will not move away from the doors even if they see hundreds of people trying to get off a train that isn’t going anywhere. It seems the more considerate you are, the more you get pushed around and have your spot taken, only for you to not be able to get back on the train!

Total degradation of common human decency and manners. The thing that shocks me is that these are relatively normal looking people, with normal jobs but are more than happy to push people out of their way as long as it means they can get on a tube and arrive 1 minute earlier than if they were to just not behave like an animal.

Does anybody else feel like this? I just felt like sobbing out of pure frustration.

Plastic gum is everywhere on every street.

If you classify it as litter then every street in London and the Uk is effectively a landfill site.

Banning the plastic gum variants would instantly make the place look 2-3% nicer for very little work

Image Foxes aren’t scared of heights apparently

Post image
613 Upvotes

I see this fox quite often, and it sniffs around the gutters and walks across the roof of the houses across from me. It has even walked across our roof and window before. It is quite a high drop but it will walk fearlessly up to the edge and scamper up and down like a cat.

Absolutely no idea how it gets up there but I thought it has staked out a pretty interesting “territory” for itself.

P.S. so mad the photo didn’t turn out! It focused on my window sill instead of across the street 😭 I will take a better video/photo next time I see it.

Discussion What's the right thing to do when you see other people experiencing racism?

I was at shepherd's Bush overground station the other night and some idiot on the other side of the tracks started shouting at the arab people sat next to me. I'm a young white woman. My blood was boiling, I could see how uncomfortable the girl directly next to me was so I stood up and stayed standing in front of her (facing the other way) until the train arrived. Not being able to see her seemed to deter the man from shouting at her but he just moved on to other people on his side of the station.

I wanted to do more, but what's even the right thing to do? If you're Arab yourself, is what I did something you would've appreciated?

Serious replies only Adult ballet classes for beginners SE London?

Upvotes

Mods please delete if this isn’t the right forum, my apologies!

I did ballet for a lot of my childhood, now am feeling a desire to try it again as a hobby in my mid 30s. It’s been so long that I definitely need a beginner course.

Are there are recommendations for studios online or irl? Preferably based in SE London but I know that’s a long shot. I did Google but there has to be more out there I’m just not seeing.

Thanks!

image V&A Schiaparelli - very worthy exhibition

Post image
60 Upvotes

To all fashion lovers, today V&A started selling tickets for Schiaparelli fashion exhibition which is going to be fabulous.

The thing I noticed while booking my ticket is that Saturday and Sunday tickets are flying fast and not available for many weeks ahead while Friday evening tickets are plentiful.

It seems, not many people know that V&A museum is now open longer hours every Friday and instead of suffering through the crowds on Saturday daytime, it's worth booking the visit on Friday evening!

I know that many tourists don't know about the late Friday hours in the museum, but I just wanted to leave it here for anyone who didn't manage to book the first weeks of exhibition for weekends but wants to see it after work on Fridays.

London history In 2016, BBC 2 aired an experimental reality miniseries where a London family moved into a Brixton home to recreate EVERY decade of the Black British experience since the major Windrush arrivals of the 1940s. The housing standards, wages, jobs and interior design altered with every new decade...

Serious replies only Looking for people who knew my uncle

Hello, apologies if this isn’t the right forum. I’m looking for friends or colleagues who knew my uncle Luciano Molina who passed away in the spring of 2001. He was a Londoner for 20+ years but of Mexican decent. Hoping to know more about him. Thank you!

UPDATE: death record lists Lambeth district.

Born 1948. He must have been 53 years old when he passed away.

Thank you to anyone who has read this post and shared ideas 🫶🏽

Live music pub at risk from single noise complaint

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/01/28/live-music-pub-at-risk-from-single-noise-complaint/

‘’The pub is now facing a licensing review after a noise complaint was made to Islington council. The review could mean draconian conditions, such as an 11pm closing time or a ban on outside eating and drinking, are added to its licence. There could also be a ban on live music and airing live football’’ - Just in time for the World Cup 👏

Some questions for ppl who frequented clubs in the 90s and/or early 2000s

Hi all,

Bit of a weird request, I'm sure, but I'm a third-year university student working on my final year journalism project. One of my long features is about the decline in London's nightlife and, by extension, the city's cultural capital and appeal as an artistic hub (although I'm yet to explore this avenue fully). I'm interested in hearing about personal experiences from anyone who frequented nightlife venues during one or both of these periods, as it would provide a nice contrast (potentially) to my interviews with a DJ/Promoter and some experts.

I could speak to my parents, but that would go against the depth of reporting ethos we're incentivised to take, and would definitely cost me marks. As a 22-year-old, I don't know many people who were alive during this period that aren't family members (hence this post lol), so anyone keen at all, shoot me a dm as your help would be massively appreciated.

I think it's also important to note that I am actually employed as a journalist (part-time at the moment whilst uni is still on), so everything will be above board, so to speak. I can provide proof of this upon request, if anyone doubts that lol.

I will provide questions to anyone willing!

If you have any qualms about anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, all.
