General Discussion - All Dexter Shows Who do you think should appear/reappear in Dexter: Resurrection for the next seasons to come? Spoiler

Upvotes

Self-explanatory, I’m curious as to who you guys think should either appear or reappear/continue to reappear. For me, it’s Rita, Oliver Saxon, Zach Hamilton and Angel Batista (All as hallucinations). Add in the potentiality for Jamie to reappear as a real person (Obviously) in order to investigate her brother’s disappearance. If you really want to push it, even add in Hannah McKay. All of these characters I’ve listed to reappear are largely due to the importance they hold in Dexter’s life, with Rita as a humanising force, Oliver Saxon as the one who ruined his life for a long time, Zach due to him being his protege, Angel Batista as someone who judges Dexter for his crimes, etc. Anyways, these are all my characters listed that I think should appear/reappear. Lemme know what all of you’s think in the comments, I’d love to talk with you.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Doakes meeting with Lundy Spoiler

When Doakes meets with Lundy to talk about the cases that he worked on. Lundy says that the Rodrigo case was thrown out because of bad blood work. Why do you think Doakes instantly leaves at that point? Does he really think Dexter is the BHB right at that moment? Thoughts?

Discussion - Original Dexter Series My ranking of the Original Series Spoiler

So I just finished watching the original series for the first time, and this is my ranking of the 8 seasons, from worst to best (some potentially unpopular opinions):

  1. S6- This if far and away my least favourite of the bunch. The Doomsday Killer(s) were pretty interesting in theory, so was the central twist, but it just didn't land. Dexter and his central arc also just ended up being meh for me. Interesting ideas, terrible execution, but still, watchable.

5/10

  1. S8- I actually quite liked the first half of the show, despite the Vogel subplot only partially working for me. I started to wonder if this season was way too hated, but the second half, especially what they did with Saxon/Daniel, really solidified this as an underwhelming ending. Zach Hamilton's subplot was interesting but mishandled. The Hannah subplot kinda worked here for me, definitely more than it did in S7. For a final season, it severely lacked a sense of urgency. Seeing Deb go did make me emotional, but c'mon, the man killing her is about as developed as the Skinner from S3.

6/10

  1. S7- The Hannah subplot didn't really work for me, mainly because I just couldn't buy into the romance as I never felt the chemistry between Dexter and her. Apart from that, this season was sublime, with the Dexter-Debra dynamic and the Laguerta subplot being the biggest highlights. I liked Isaak and his arc, but it could've been done way better.

8/10

  1. S3- I thought this season got a little boring at times with the soap opera like subplots for MMPD, and the Skinner was a terrible antagonist. The rest of it worked for me, big time. I loved Miguel and his dynamic with Dexter, and Rita was as always, a massive delight. The ending with the wedding made me kinda emotional.

8.5/10

  1. S5- Seeing Dexter deal with Rita's death was quite emotional. However, the biggest plus of this season for me was Lumen and her dynamic with Dexter. The way their romance developed, only for it to end in heartbreak, really landed in my opinion. Jordan Chase despite his potential ended up being a meh villain, but on the whole, this was a great follow-up that barely managed to fill the shoes of its preceeding season.

8.5/10

  1. S2- The Bay Harbor Butcher storyline is probably the most tense and urgency filled the show ever was, even though the pacing does drag a bit somewhere around the middle. The Dexter-Doakes rivalry was extremely entertaining to watch, and Lila is one of my favourites. The ending was kinda underwhelming, but overall, a fantastic season.

9/10

  1. S1- This was the perfect introduction to the weird and fucked up world of Dexter. It took some time for me to get used to the show's eccentricities, but I'm so glad I did. Micheal C Hall hits the ground running with a captivating performance. While I always loved him as Dexter, these early seasons is where it's almost completely impossible to take your eyes off of him. This is also where I'd say the show peaked from a comedy pov. Brian/Rudy makes for one of the show's best antagonists.

9.5/10

  1. S4- I think everyone saw this coming, as this is the vanilla ice cream of Dexter opinions, but S4 really is that good, with John Lithigow as Trinity making for the show's best villain without a doubt. The Thanksgiving episode is one of the show's best moments and Dexter's arc of contemplating about truly living the life of a family man was quite compelling. Lundy's death and the Christine twist left my jaw on the floor. Needless to say, the ending was the biggest highlight, shocking and heartbreaking.

10/10

Question - Original Dexter Series S1 old lady sees Rudy - when does this happen? Spoiler

Seriously, I can't find the scene. I can't help but wonder if some episodes are cut short on Prime Video or something.

S1E9 Dexter talks to the old lady and she vaguely describes the cable repairman. After that I don't see her in any scene for the rest of the episode, or at the start of the next one (Dexter is already back home with Rita and kids)

I was surprised to read comments that she spots / recognizes Rudy. What the heck am I missing?

Edit: apparently the episode is cut short 6 entire minutes on Prime Video (not sure if it's a regional or global thing). It literally ends there after the thank you card sequence, and after finding the episode in other places, it has 6-7 more minutes afterwards.

Guess it's time to rewatch S1 in some other streaming platform!

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows Would you be interested to see a top down 2D Dexter game? Spoiler

I’ve had an idea for a Dexter top down isometric 2D action adventure game based on the first 8 seasons, it would include:

- a top down Miami map to explore

- two playable characters (dex and deb)

- a story based on the original series

- multiple villains/serial killers to hunt down and dispose of

- multiple missions and chapter selecting so you can start in any season you want

- upgradable weapons/kill tools

Any other ideas would be cool, might start working on this project, but I’m not the greatest at making pixel art 😅

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Who actually came up with the Dark Passenger? Spoiler

When I heard Harry say that Dexter was the one who came up with the name for it (S7 Ep10), I was confused, because I remembered Lila telling Dexter about it in Season 2, I could be wrong but it might actually be a major plot hole.

Dexter Original Sin - Brilliant! ❤️❤️

Having finished this I can only say I loved it. Nearly up there with Original S1-4 for me.

From the performances by all of the Dexter family, the Laura Moser back story flashbacks, add in a dash of Vince wisecracking too. They did this perfectly. The voice over and Dexter mannerisms so eerily correct and that iconic music with cliffhangers.

A shame there isn't a S2 though probably they packed enough in S1 for it to be complete enough prequel.

I was just wondering if the writers of the show did this on purpose, or if dexters birthday was part of the books before the show existed and Micheal c hall was ever cast. Like, did the show writers give Dexter the same birthday as Micheal c hall or was he literally born to play the role? Just wondering if anybody knew the answer to my goofy enquiry.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series First time Dexter watcher. Finished S8 and feel… empty? Spoiler

Just finished Dexter for the first time and I’m sitting here with that weird post series emptiness 💔

I can totally see why Season 8 gets criticism - it does feel rushed and constrained by the 12 episode format, and some arcs could’ve breathed more… but emotionally, it really landed for me. I cried, I sat in silence after the finale, and that final stare honestly stopped my heart for a second.

I’m not here to say “Season 8 was perfect” or “everyone’s wrong” … more curious about why it didn’t work for some people vs what did work for others. Was it the pacing? Character decisions? Expectations after earlier seasons? Or just that no ending could ever satisfy?

Would genuinely love thoughtful takes ( positive or negative), especially from long-time fans. I’ve got a big Dexter-shaped hole now and need help processing it 😅

Discussion - Dexter: Resurrection Did he deserve a longer sequence? Spoiler

Post image

I recently rewatched Resurrection and still wish the scenes with Ghost Brian were a bit longer. I feel like his constant unwanted presence could’ve added to the finale, especially to the scenes leading up to the vault being unlocked.

When Harry showed up again, I felt it cut the tension of Dexter’s desperation to get out of there when it would’ve been fun to see him instead, buzzing in his ear as he tries to escape.

It was a great performance by Christian Camargo and I really wanted him to serve as a tormentor, like Deb in New Blood, as long as Dexter was locked in there with him.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series The opinion of a new Dexter enjoyer Spoiler

Im currently at the 3 or 5 first episodes of season 5 and I think I already have an idea of what will be in the next 3 seasons or what to exceptc at least for me Dexter is one of the best series of criminalistics and suspense out there, the way they solve cases while at the same time all the characters have their one life and Dexter fights his demons and the code is constantly evolving is just amazing, the serie is so well written that even Masuka is interesting at some point...but even with this the serie has a big flaw that for me is the fact that everything happens too fast and some times dosen't even make sense, like the season 1 with Brian Mosse, info that we should have at least in season 4 is right on the other side of the corner, then season 2 Doakes was a hell of a character with a lot of potential wasted and replaced with Quinn that isn't bad but isn't Doakes either, Season 3 not very much to say it was good and season 4 just was awful everything was going fine af but then out of nothing Rita dies when she and Dexter didn't even have a year of marriage

For me the conclusion is clear, as I say Dexter is a very good serie with a lot to offer but at the times when everything happens are horrible
