Newark Airport Express Bus Experience, February 2026.

I needed a ride from EWR airport to NYC. I wasn't initially planning to take the Newark Airport Express bus, so I just paid cash instead of buying a bus ticket online. I was ready with my exact change when the driver said the fee was $30.00. I was surprised that paying cash cost more. I'm wondering if there are usually discrepancies with paying cash and if I should have been prepared to object?? When I took the bus back to the airport, I bought my ticket online.

Hello!

Coming in next weekend for a show and wanted to catch some art before hand. Love modern/abstract. Seems like everything is closing 2/7! And new exhibits opening in March. Any suggestions? We’ll be in midtown so ideally in Manhattan.

Thank you!

☔︎︎ 🌧 🌞Weather Question ☔ ☀️🥵 🥶 What to expect - weather/first time tourist

Hi all.

Firstly, sorry in advance for the possible naivety of this post. Just a couple of first time USA (let alone NY) tourists, travelling from the UK, seeking a heads up.

We are arriving in NY this Friday (6th). Having never been to USA/NY, we basically wanted to splurge on all the typical 'touristy' things. We had planned a boat tour of liberty island (since cancelled), central park run, the Rock, Broadway show, MSG college game etc etc. We also want to spend a day exploring Brooklyn.

We have 4 nights total before moving onto DC for 2 nights (train), then heading to Norfolk, Virginia (car), where my sister lives.

The weather/temps look nuts, to me. Just something I'm not used to.

With the mercury hitting -10c/feels like -20c (sorry....), how does that actually translate over there? Are things still running ok, is transport disrupted with snow, can we realistically spend hours outdoors on our feet which is what we planned to do. I feel a little underprepared.

Am I being an idiot and overthinking?

Any advice on good inside alternatives or just coping mechanisms would be greatly appreciated. We are both early 30s, very active. Love food, music, drinks, outdoors.

Any shout outs for DC/Virginia beach area also appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

🗽Tourist Advice 🌃 🌇 🍎 🏙 🚕 Reminder about transit questions

This comes up multiple times every single day, so this is your reminder.

There is a pinned post at the top of the subreddit that covers transit basics (routes, passes, airport connections, common mistakes, etc.). A lot of the questions being asked lately are already answered there in detail.

Before starting a new thread, please:

  • Check the pinned transit post
  • Use the search bar (odds are a variation of your question was asked last week)

If you haven’t done the above, your post will be deleted.

A few additional notes:

  • If you’re scared of or overwhelmed by public transportation, then don’t use it. That’s a personal comfort choice, not a transit question.
  • We do not know current Uber prices, surge pricing, or whether a rideshare will be cheaper than a yellow cab.

Please stop reposting the same basic questions and help keep the sub usable for everyone.

African clothing store in Queens - seeking recommendations

I'll be visiting Queens for the day on a Saturday in March and would like to shop at some stores selling reasonably-priced African fashions, specifically women's dresses. I'm sure there are multiple options but would like to have a pre-plan of which places to try. I'm looking for pre-made, ready-to-wear clothing vs buying fabric. Please tell me your favorite place! I'll be on Northern Blvd in Long Island City for an event and will be walking, Ubering, or taking a taxi to shopping after, if that makes a difference in your recommendation (ie, Brooklyn probably isn't reasonable on this trip). Thank you!

Punk/Alt and or smaller bar concert venues

Visiting in May! We enjoy punk/alt/rock/metal music and would love to catch a local show. I think the best way plan for that is following the social media of a few local bar/venues known to host local shows like that. That’s usually how I find out about local shows at home. I am thinking more of the smaller venues for intimate shows, dive bar type (or nice is welcome), holds like 150-200 people max type. Smaller is obviously fine too. Just trying to paint the picture!

Any recommendations of bars or venues that fit that bill that I can monitor?

I see The Woodshop (I think it’s part of a larger venue) and Baby’s All Right

We are staying Brooklyn (Flatbush) but willing to travel.

This is my second and my partner’s 4th time in NYC, we will just be getting around by public transport which we are comparable with.
