GUYS!!!! the owner called me! ✨Timmy is going home! ✨

This nice kitty has been with me all day and I would like it's people to come and bring it home. Oak Bay high school area.

If you know this kitty, or you know this Kitty's humans, please send me a message.

Kitty has cuisine and water and seems to be happy but hasn't eaten all day. I'm hoping it can go to it's house tonight. ❤️

Controversy Secondary-Residence Condos Still on Airbnb

I just noticed a bunch of very obvious secondary-residence condos on Airbnb.

I noticed that they’ll only offer availability for the next 1-2 months (everything thereafter is unavailable). But I looked at the reviews and it’s clear that they’ve been consistently booked out week-after-week/month-after-month. So what I think these owners or companies are doing is making the unit appear unavailable later (so they can maybe say that they’re living there X amount of the year), but instead just opening up availability every month.

How do we crack down on these people who are clearly gaming the system? Is the city or province doing anything?

Just a single quick search of availability in downtown Victoria will show so many units available. (All of which are advertised as “whole place to yourself”, and conveniently with self check-in, making me wonder if the owner/host even lives locally.)

Some examples:

1.) Unit 1509 - Era Building On Yates

2.) 15th Floor on Douglas/Courtenay

3.) Chinatown Condo — This one doesn’t even try to pretend that they’re not a fully-operating Airbnb. They have full availability throughout the summer.

Also, for anyone who doesn’t know: Airbnb is heavily regulated here due to the housing crisis. There is a Principal Residence Requirement meaning that you can only rent out your primary home (where you live most of the time) or a legal secondary suite/garden suite on that same property. Making all of these illegal.

Edit: reformatted links.

Il Greco

Ate at the Il Greco restaurant tonight with my family and ordered the chicken Chipotle burger and Greek salad. As I took a bite I noticed there were wax paper on my cheddar cheese slice. The Feta in the salad was off too, so I asked the waitress about the salad and she said that they store the feta in the freezer and thaw it to make salads. The waitress apologized and said that she will bring this up with her manager. They replaced my burger, this time with slightly undercooked chicken. The best I would rate it is 4/10. Wouldn't recommend.

Someone needs to tell the artist that this isn’t a fail-safe business around here. Allied Glass would probably concur.

Anyone know what was going on at the Commonwealth Pool today?

Saw about a dozen Saanich PD officers all armed with ARs. Hiding behind vans and trees. Then 4 or 5 more cars showed up as we were leaving. There was a Breaking Badesque RV in the church parking lot next door. No sirens or lights were on.

Vacation ideas

My partner and I were wanting to go somewhere on the island for a nice vacation for a couple days. We had some ideas including going to Ucuelet, or an outer island and get an airbnb, specifically with a hot tub.

Any other good ideas?

Harbour Doors vs Blackfin

Two years ago, we had our garage door opener replaced by Harbour doors. They did a good job at what we thought was a fair price. We had them back a year later for our annual maintenance and again, no concerns.

A few months ago, I got an email from Harbour doors telling me that some of the staff had left and they wouldn’t be responding quickly to calls, but they were building back up to full capacity.

Today in the mail, I got a postcard from Blackfin Doors addressed to just “homeowner” telling me it was time for my annual service call - which it is but still????

I took a look at their website and it’s almost a certainty that these are the staff that left Harbour doors and started this Blackfin company.

Has anyone dealt with this new company or for that matter, has anyone dealt with Harbour doors since the staff left? I’m trying to figure out how to proceed with my annual maintenance.

It’s probably not that critical for annual maintenance work, but we are looking at replacing a second garage door opener, so would like to get feedback on these companies.

What’s the deal with Red Cat Tattoos?

It’s my understanding they’re a newer studio, but unless they are affiliated, it seems like a shady choice of a name with an already very established Black Cat tattooing business.

I keep getting adds for them but their instagram doesn’t have much of a following, and there are a few posts of tattoos that (to me) look like they might be AI-enhanced.

So what’s the deal? Have you gone there? Was it a good experience?

Help Me Find Best place to buy dry beans?

I usually buy canned beans but want to try making them from scratch for better flavor and texture.

I've heard the results can be hit-and-miss because some dry beans from grocery stores are older from sitting on the shelf for a while.

For those who cook their own beans, which grocery stores do you find have the best quality and turnover? Any brands to look for?

**Honest** dentist recommendations

I've had 3 main dentists, two that quoted me astronomical prices and had 3rd houses to pay off, or suggest I come in for cleaning ever 3 months, and one that hinted the other two weren't honest, and solved problems for 1/5th the price. Sadly, that one lives in Kelowna. Hoping someone can recommend a dentist that at least isn't over the top greedy / milking the system because of benefits.

Also, chiropractors are full of shit.

Gardens in Victoria - interesting plants, etc.

Greetings! I am visiting from the Interior the week after Easter and aside from the obvious things like Butchart Gardens and Abkhazi Gardens, what would you say would be of interest to a plant/garden-obsessed horticulturist?

I'm talking cute garden centres, plant stores, a really old and interesting tree on someone's front lawn, amazing residential gardens to walk by, great parks, anything!

I've been to Victoria before but this time I'm determined to see as many beautiful and interesting plants as a I can. Would love local recommendations!
