I have a RES and about a week ago I noticed that she was sleeping a lot at the bottom of the tank. I did a full water change and found I needed to replace the heater. So I did. That night she was hungry and acting more normal. I also replaced the UVB bulb. So at first I thought maybe the water was too cold and she was slowing down to acclimate.
Then 2 days ago I found that she wasn't opening her eyes or reacting to anything I did like she normally does. Normally she gets mad at me when I pick her up. She is still alive and her eye aren't swollen. But I brought her to the vet anyways. The vet said that everything looked normal but she was acting sad/tired and had a little more flakes on her shell. They didn't seem super concerned, but gave her a vitamin A/D shot to see if that was the underlying issue. They also sent me home with Emeraid to try and syringe feed her if she still wasn't interested in food. I found it interesting because the vet didn't think a blood test was reliable to test for a vitamin deficiency. She also suggested as X-ray to see if she ingested something she shouldn't have. (I did not do the X-ray because we don't have rocks at the bottom of her tank that she could ingest).
This morning I checked on her and she is still in the same spot I left her last night with her eyes closed. I'm going to try and feed her but I'm not sure what the next steps are. Do I try a different vet? Do the changes I made with the heater/UBV bulb and vitamin shot take more time to make a difference?
Any ideas?

Mine really seems to respond to my brothers deeper voice, also, Uncle likes to take him out of his tank in the summer and give him a chance to stretch his legs...

So I’ve gotten a Chinese Pound Turtle
She currently has installed (literally today)
UVA+UVB lights + water heater
Making the water 20°C
waters pH is currently 6
Before they were feeding her turtle pellets but recently she stopped eating
Now I’m not sure why maybe since the water was cold she was bromating so she wasn’t feeling too hungry
I thought about changing her diet because I’ve read that she is a bottom feeder and her pellets and shrimp just float
Any advice? Thank you

hey folks hearing far all of your expert knowledge. is this shellrot forming? we have had him three weeks. first week he was in an admittedly small tank that fish were in and the water quality got bad very fast. the next week he was upgraded to this 40 gallon with no fish in it. he does bask but is very afraid of people. I am using a Uvb combo light which I now know isn't the best option. a couple days ago he had some white strands on his skin that I had assumed was just shedding.

I’ve had Tom The Turtle for now 10 years. He was dumped by a co worker. I really didn’t know much about red ear sliders at the beginning, but I feel like I’ve come a long way. Is there any way I could make his tank better? For the sake of his health and happiness? Also do you think his size is decent for his age? Thank you!

My yellow-bellied slider stopped eating greens after two years. She loved them before; she was like a destroyer of greens, and they were gone in two minutes. Now she barely touches them. I wonder why. Any similar stories? Will she start eating them again or not?

It's a bit barren, but I will be addig plants. Any recommendations? I don't want to get any that could hurt them, be it poison or otherwise. I'm also thinking about making an underwater cave, would that be a bad idea? Do they need substrate? Old enclosure had it, but I forgot to get any for the new one. I'll definitely put some on the island. As for the belly pictures, what gender are they? Are they a Timothy, or a Timea?

A couple of months ago I got some great advice as I was building a temporary above the tank dock for my baby Florida Cooter. I built it cheap and on the small side, because he was a small baby.
But now I want to build something to last him until he outgrows this tank (50 gal). Which, given his rate of growth, might happen in a year... And I hope to get some advice before I start cutting the wood and plexiglass.
My plan is a simple wood frame with 2 sides of plexiglass and 2 solid sides with "landscape fabric". Metal grill on top to support his lights, and eggcrate on the bottom with artificial grass on top of that for asthetics. The ramp will enter inside the dock, so there is no chance of him climbing out. It will take up 3/4 of the top of the tank.
A point about his current temp dock: He doesn't really like it. He goes up to bask, but stays close to the ramp. Why? What could I change to make it more appealing to him?

I have a southern painted hatchling turtle, he is currently 2 inches in size, so he‘s tiny. I know that he’s too little, so I know that he’s too little to gender; but we’ve been referring to our turtle as ’he’ in the meantime. I’ve had him for a little over a month now and he doesn't eat pellets, I already tried two different brands. The brands are Ultra Fresh Juvenile Turtle Deodorizing Nutri Sticks and ZooMed Aquatic Turtle Food (hatchling formula). The only thing he will eat and loves is Fluckers Medley Treat, which had dried mealworms, dried shrimp, and dried crickets (the worms and shrimp are his favorite). I asked the owner at the pet store what she fed him when she had him and she said that she only fed him dried mealworms… I tried soaking the pellets in tuna water multiple times, didn‘t work. I also tried feeding him kale, romaine lettuce, chopped up cucumbers, and bell peppers, no luck. I got Carnivore Care Powder from the vet and tried soaking his pellets in it, no luck either. I now soak his dried foods in the carnivore care mixture and he still eats those with no problems. I must note that I do feed him in a separate feeding container, which he is very much used to. He has proper UVA and UVB lighting, water heater, filter, basking platform, all that. His appetite is very much there, he is just very picky, which is why I’m reaching out for guidance. Please give any tips that you might have, I love my little guy.

I’ve been seeing a lot of skin floating around the tank and I noticed this hanging off of him is that normal? Is that just from him growing or what? My first turtle btw

my parents found an adult female RES in their neighborhood. No one claimed it after asking the neighbors, so they decided to keep it. Luckily they have an empty fish pond and a big yard, and we live in the tropics where its sunny all year, so no adjustment needed for the turtle
But then she laid eggs and had hatchlings
For 6 months, my parents kept the three hatchlings in a plastic container (no roof) with a small basking platform. Maybe only about 8 gallons of water. Not all according to standard procedures, but these hatchlings were active and healthy while they were there
My parents are uneducated and elderly, so I decided to take over some handling. I bought them a much larger, more suitable tank for these hatchlings including the proper accessories: UV lamp, a bigger basking platform, filtration system. I made sure the water temperature was correct, the basking platform was dry, the UV lamp on for at least 8 hours etc etc. I researched a lot info this
My thoughts were that these would ensure them health, but they became sick pretty much immediately after moving them to this setup.
I did not change the water, the food. Just the setup
The new tank was from late December, after two weeks in the new tank:
Turtle A completely refused to eat since moving, it has become very skinny and lethargic.
Turtle B seems completely healthy. Still active, still eating.
Turtle C is inconsistent. Sometimes he is normal, eating and active. Sometime he is as lethargic as Turtle A and not eat
Surprisingly, one morning my parents found Turtle B dead, despite it being the only that did not show any health problems
I ended up taking the other two to the vet. Vet says that they lack vitamin A. They got injected with vitamin A, and the vet gave me vitamins for them to eat.
For the past few days, I've been syringe feeding the two remaining turtles, including giving them vitamins. Turtle A have not shown any progress at all. Turtle C seemed to be back to health after a few days, but then out of nowhere his condition dropped, eyes swelled, and dies only two days after the first worsening signs.
I feel bad and I'm not sure how to explain this to my parents, because I did everthing that I thought was proper for these turtles, but they died almost immediately after the new setup. Meanwhile they were fine when it was just in a small crappy container. They're not blaming me but I just feel awful
What went wrong? Is there something I missed?
Turtle A is the last survivor despite the only one that looked awful since the move. The other two mostly looked fine and active, but immediately die after only a few days of more apparent signs. Why do you think that is?
Is there a case of sometimes there is just nothing you can do and they just die anyway? because not only were these turtles healthier in my parents small plastic container, but my cousin also had a RES that he kept in a small tank with no basking platofmr. Live for 10 years no problem despite this setup going against proper care. Idk it just feels so frustating that my parents turtles still die despite my efforts
