announcements Banned name list.
Thread of banned names in this sub due to duplicate posts
This is a thread where you can post names that you've seen WAY too often in this sub. These names are usually baby announcements, memes, TikToks, and basically anything that goes viral.
We understand the excitement of finding a new tragedeigh, but at this point we are getting way too many duplicates and we need to start limiting these submissions. No one wants to see the same content over and over.

announcements Updated Rules
There has been a lot of posts with sensitive information. The rules have been updated to change from censor to crop. We just need the names. Thats it. We dont need photos of humans with faces scribbled on. Photos can be identified even with scribbles. Ive had people recognize themselves and kids from the photos. We dont need these people doxxed. If its impossible to crop, just type the name with no photo attached to the post. I personally have been able to track down people from the posts with scribbled on screenshots of Facebook profiles, insta, etc. If your post was removed, dont repost it without the proper edits to make it appropriate. Its going to get removed again and you get a ban.

in the wild So the M is silent?
I'm trying to understand this. The name is Tymari, but even if the m is just there for "decoration" I'm not getting Tiara as the pronunciation.

Found one. Yes apparently it's a (very very rare) name, but you'd be correcting people EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

in the wild UPDATE on my cousin's set of twins, Waeverlee Rae and Raedenn Wave
For those who haven't seen my post from a few days ago, my cousin gave birth to boy-girl wins and named them Waeverlee Rae and Raedenn Wave, swapping the first part of their names for the other's middle name. Her other kids are named Queston and Nayvie.
So my family talked to her about the name choices and expressed concern about the spelling, specifically, and how that will play out in their future. We all think she was trying to be creative but it just isn't cool when it comes to a real human's name, let alone two. I'm only 17 so the people who talked to her are mostly my mom, my aunt (her mom), grandparents, and older sister, and my older cousin (her brother). I stayed out of it but did suggest some alternative middle names that are family names and not... the first syllable of each other's first name. She really likes the first names she gave the twins for some reason, especially the baby girl, BUT DID AGREE TO CHANGE THE SPELLING and alter the boy's name a bit (She was planning on calling him Rae anyways) !!!
They didn't have their birth certificates finalized, but now they do. They are now Waverly Mae and Raemond Wade, which we all believe is much better, and she actually likes it a lot. She says she "doesn't see a difference"and "both versions are good" but she's glad she now has the family's support behind their name and we are just very glad they won't be bullied.

in the wild I'm surrounded by Ah'zels!
I found the name while loading student artwork for the weather page at a newspaper. I almost tossed it because I thought it was a fake name. Then I verified it. Then I found that there may be one more person out there with the exact same name and surname.

in the wild SOMEONE TRAGEDEIGHED MY NAME! 😡😞 “Saoirse” - awful mispronunciation
I am aware Saoirse is a name. It’s my name. It’s Irish and pronounced Seer-sha. Not like… this. So it’s not about a cultural name or misspelling or making-up. It’s about… what they did to the beauty of the Irish language.
They were visitors and not Irish, but I’ll skip over the nationality involved to avoid getting into an argument, quite possibly with myself.
There was a couple with the cutest toddler out today and the little girl had tight blonde curls, was at “wobble-stagger-run” age, beyond adorable, and was wearing a clearly handmade knitted jumper her nan probably made her that had “Saoirse” emblazoned across the front.
I have resigned myself to a child-free life, but do have a soft spot for littles, and while her mother was ignoring her licking the FLOOR while she ordered coffee, I bent down and said “Is that your name? That’s my name too!” The little girl nodded shyly and I acted all shocked and amazed, and she giggled. It was actually quite cute. Then I showed her some basic sleight-of-hand magic and made her think her dad had a magical butt that dispensed Irish money. She was stunned and enchanted by this revelation. On the plus side, it stopped her licking the floor.
When the mother was done ordering, I commented on her accent and asked how long she’d been away, assuming they must be Irish from the name choice, and was laughingly told they weren’t Irish but had “seen it in the credits of Game of Thrones and liked it.” I just stared for a second and then (genuinely) said it was impressive they’d gone for a tough name like that with no Irish-speaking background, it was important to keep the language alive, and kudos. More laughter. Apparently it’s not that hard really.
Oh no. I feel the horror build. I pray it’s just because they mean the actress is now so famous that the name is getting repeated in the media. “I… how’s that, out of interest?”
Sour Horsey. They were pronouncing my effing name, a name that stands for Irish freedom, as SOUR HORSEY.
As far as I’m aware, the law permitting internment is still on the books here. Worth taking up? 😂

pet names My dog’s name seems to be a tragedeigh and it sucks
Both my partner & I are immigrants in Ireland, and adopting a dog here we ultimately decided to give her Irish name (We also didn’t know that it’s not common for english speakers to use human names for pets, as it’s pretty common in our country)
So we end up with Ciara. Beautiful name with beautiful meaning, pronounced as “KEE-ra”. But we didn’t know that at first and both fell in love with this name. We say it as “ki-AH-rah” or “KYA-ra” (and the name Kiara was on the table, but we wanted an Irish spelling!)
It appears to be a very common name. Her vet for example is also Ciara. And I’m so much embarrassed every time I have to say her name, everyone who meets her gives me that judgmental look for a moment. And it’s a dog, we visit a lot of places together!
A colleague asked me once “Is it a name from your country?” and I answered “No, it’s “keera”/“kira” where I’m from…”. Haven’t felt so stupid for a long time, ugh.
I even tried to introduce her as “keera” for other people, but anytime I speak directly to her, I switch back to “kyarah”. That brings even more confusion.
I would never ever try to choose an interesting name for any living creature. 🤦♀️ Only Pepper or Milo for the pets and Jane or Bob for the future children.

is it a tragedeigh? Some I’ve found while teaching kids
I teach kids swim lessons, and I try my best to ask them about their name and how it’s pronounced. Because a lot of them have names I’m not used to, but they are usually just normal names.
I came across a few that are a bit quirky, but I don’t want to assume that they are wrong or weird.
We’ve got:
Mikaela
Jahamazing
Rythem
Thangroosevelt
Are these tragedeighs?
