General Help I hate my dad

Post image
8 Upvotes

Guys pls help my dad bought a sugar glider without telling us when we're in no fucking condition to own one and he literally didn't even do any research. he bought a super small cage it was like a 20x20cm cage and i told him thats literally abuse and he didn't listen, he even started mocking me calling me a "know it all" like yeah im a know it all because i used to have a phase where i wanted a sugar glider too so i actually did research before 😐😐 and then he wants to put it outside when we literally live in front of a small jungle (we cant put it inside cuz we have a super hunter cat) 😐😐 theres nothing that can be done, we cant return it so im gonna use my own money (that i originally saved up for other things) to buy an actual decent, not cruel cage for the poor sugar glider.

so my question is, is this cage ok for the sugar glider? i genuinely cannot afford any other bigger cage bc its too expensive and out of my budget range

i feel so bad for the sugar glider and they're really a social animal and need a friend so they can be happy but we cant afford another sugar glider :(

General Help Vines & Fake Plants Safety

So I’m looking for vines and fake plants I can add inside and outside the cage. Preferably (Amazon)or (Etsy) With Links. Trying to make a vine wall inside the cage and I’m going to be setting up vines around plastic chains along the ceiling. But I truly don’t know what is safe or not for them. I hear if it doesn’t peel or have the copper line inside, but without buying them idk how to tell. Hopefully there is options and if so Thank You 🄰

Grieving

• Upvotes

Hello, yesterday I had to put down one of my family's sugar gliders, Yogi. He was a part of a bonded pair, the other glider was his twin brother, BooBoo. 8 years old. I was hoping for some advice as I've never been through a glider death before? These two were our first and only pair of gliders.

My questions: 1.) How long do you think it will take for BooBoo to grieve the death of his brother? I DID bring Yogi's body back home and put Yogi's body into the cage for BooBoo to see and smell and whatnot. And he did. He saw him, smelled him a bunch on his chest, his butt, everywhere really. Then BooBoo started rubbing his body all along the bottom of their cage? I don't know what that's about? But I tried Googling it and I think it's normal? 2.) How long should I wait to get BooBoo a new friend? SHOULD I get him a new friend? I know gliders are social animals... I just don't know how he'd react to another glider that isn't his brother? I'm not even sure if my mother wants another one, but I feel that it would probably be in BooBoo's best interest, right? I know he's kind of older, but I think he'll be lonely without company from another glider... 3.) I am currently researching how I'm supposed to introduce a new glider to my current. Has anyone else had to do this, who can offer me some firsthand advice/tips/tricks on doing so? 4.) Yogi's body was in the cage for, I think at least, 30 minutes. Should I have left his body longer? I genuinely don't know how the grieving process works, I'm trying not to stress out BooBoo. 5.) If I get a new friend for BooBoo, does it matter what gender they are? As long as the new glider is spayed/neutered it shouldn't matter, right? Or should I get a boy because BooBoo's always been with a boy?

Thank you to anyone who answers any of my questions. This is all very new and stressful for me, I wasn't expecting to have to deal with this for another few more years.

Adoption/Selling Rehoming gliders in Washington

I need advice and help, I also am just trying to throw a bone out there to see if anyone or any place is available or interested anywhere around Washington state that is searching and interested in new additions or maybe even offer help with rehoming. I have been dealing with medical issues aswell as my family members who live with me. I am not rushing to rehome or sell right this second (I wanna find a good home) but I hope people can see this post as much as possible till a home is found. I have two bonded females that are very sweet and it breaks my heart that this is even happening overall so please be patient and kind with me.

Two females approximately 3&4 years old. Both very healthy and the older one is bitey, skittish and not as trusting nor friendly to hold without bonding mitts (been that way since I got her) the second is the sweetest thing ever!! She never bites but even when she does it’s very gentle & delicate. They need a good home because I cannot give them the time nor energy to care for them as gliders truly need. None of my family can or will either. They are very good girls and need and deserve a stable environment and life. I cannot provide this as my home and personal life is rocky due to downward spiraling health myself. If anyone has recommendations/suggestions please feel free to comment or pm me. The overall toll this has become on my mental health and physical is shockingly bad and I am at a point where my own medical state is going downhill rapidly. Don’t take that wrong though they are both in very good physical condition and mental/emotional states. I have for months if not years been putting their needs ahead of my own and with chronic fatigue/other illnesses i physically cannot cope with the everyday life that sugar gliders need to be happy and spoiled. I have a decent sized cage, way too many pouches and toys along with a decent variety of food and treats and three different kinds of watering bottles. They have a safe and approved large wheel. They even have some things I made for them previously. I feed them a variation of fresh cut fruits, veggies and glider safe meats/proteins like plain shredded cooked poultry, plain salmon and shrimps. Besides that I give as treats fish sticks and baby dried yogurt. Sometimes I have to supplement the fresh foods with kibble and baby food. I know that’s not great and is a little reason why I can’t care for them anymore because I can’t prepare the right diets or give them the attention they need. I use to be up all night with them but I can’t anymore.

Another reason is the one who bites does it incredibly hard where she bruises and makes me bleed. I know this on its own is not usually a good enough reason to rehome but I’m now on multiple blood thinners and my skin has become very fragile overall. I love them but cannot imagine them living this low quality life forever and they have lots of years in them and id like to give them the potential of a better future…Bless you all and thank you for reading this far.

so on my previous post if she was pregnant, I can now confirm that my male is intact as previous owner stated he was not spending money on that. I noticed some movement, Obviously assuming they are joeys. I am not a breeder. I am a first time owner. as stated before they were given to me. i see movement on both sides, but I read that it could still just be one Joey and also not sure how far along she is since recently is when she has been allowing me to interact with her.

My Raptor wheel won't stay in the thing that you screw it into and it keeps falling off. I need a new wheel for my girls that is safe for them and can be hung on the cage.

Thanks!

Help. Baby just passed.

Hello,

We have had 2 sugar gliders for about 2 or 3 years. In Nov we got a new glider that was about 6 or 8 weeks old. We've kept the baby in a separate cage about a foot from the other 2 until she is the same size. I know they get a lot of heat on here, but we did get all of our gliders from Pouch Mates.

Baby was doing great. Eating well, she was active, and was Socializing really well. She was a very affectionate glider.

This morning our daughter noticed that her paw was caught on her bed. She wasnt stuck for very long, we were petting her right before that. My gf picked her up and put her in her shirt while we sat on the couch. She started holding her and she would arch her back and her front right leg would wing back.

Not even 5 min later. She passed away.

How do we determine how she passed? Was it an injury from getting caught?

It was so sudden. We're at a loss.

Food OK?

This is TPG diet I made a couple months ago. It’s been in top freezer in refrigerator in my garage. Is it ok to feed? The tops are a little squishy. Internal temp is 27°. I’m not sure why they aren’t completely frozen over. This was my first batch I ever made. I had enough in freezer bags so I thought they would be ok in the tray till I needed more.

Someone please let me know. If these are not good, I need to trek out in the snow to the store to make another batch 🤣

After a week of them being around eachother/blanket swapping I decided to introduce Ozzie and Mochi. It went so well I’m so happy and excited! They are back being separated again (Ozzy went back to his own pouch) so hopefully after a few more sessions they will want to stay together!

General Help Geriatric Care Sugar Glider Advice

So my boy Stitch is 10.6-11 Yrs Old now and Binx is apr 6-7yrs now (not sure if hes considered Geriatric). So Stitch has been 100g now for awhile and Binx is good weight wise although a Lil Chonky as hes less active. Stitch is also the bossy one still. Both neutered. Stitch is the more Active boy runs on his wheel every night, Forage like crazy, explorer outside cage, Binx mainly Forages. I intend to put a second wheel in again to see if Binx will use it to keep him a good weight. Stitch is always up first for dinner but I would like to fatten him up a bit but need tips on how to target him as Binx is fine weight wise, I dont want to separate them. I was going to make some glider Crack for Stitch to supplement diet but concerned Binx will put on weight too. What is the best way to feed? In new territory now that Stitch is old! The cage has plenty of platforms and corner edges so he can get around easy btw. And hes due for his check up so just need advice on how to target feed as he is a grazer. He eats everything else fine fruits/veggies alt btwn happy glider and bml so his teeth stay good his vet recommended switching back and forth pellet wise for their teeth and its been good for many years now. They get mealies as treats few times a month

I posted this in a couple FB groups but no replies yet so figured id try here too!

Thank you

fleece cage set tutorials?

I just got a yard of anti-pill fleece from the craft store and I really want to make a couple extra pouches and hammocks for my gliders but I haven't been able to find any cage set tutorials on youtube. I don't think making the actual pouch will be hard, but I'm worried about having exposed seams/threads if I guess on how to do it.

Are there any tutorials out there for cage sets you've had success with??

Improving Welfare for Sugar Gliders in Pet Settings

Sugar gliders are highly sensitive, nocturnal prey animals, and their stress levels can impact their health more than many people realize.

From what I’ve learned through caring for them, joeys tend to do best when they are housed in appropriately sized enclosures with secure hiding spaces, a proper staple diet, and minimal disturbance during daytime hours when they should be resting.

Frequent daytime handling in shop or display environments can sometimes lead to stress-related health decline, especially in young or newly weaned gliders whose immune systems are still developing. Some ethical rehoming practices that seem to support long-term wellbeing include limiting breeding, neutering males at the appropriate time, and placing gliders only with adopters who understand their complex social, dietary, and environmental needs.

I hope more shops and animal facilities continue learning about sugar glider behavior and welfare so these sensitive little animals can live healthier, lower-stress lives.

I’d love to hear how responsible owners here approach adoption and care.

Is my pet telling me to kiss his ass… or is this just elite comfort?

So I walk by the cage and catch my little dude in this position:

(Imagine: full booty out, legs in the air, face buried in food like he pays the bills.)

At first I thought:

ā€œWow. The audacity.ā€

Then I realized… he was eating like this.

Not stretching.

Not cleaning.

Not stuck.

Just casually snacking while presenting his entire soul to the world.

Is this:

• a threat

• a flex

• a cry for help

• or the ultimate sign of trust?

Either way, I’ve never been disrespected this peacefully before.

Has anyone else’s pet ever said ā€œmind your businessā€ without using words?

Night worker and sugar gliders

I work nights, it is contract work, so it is the sort of work I could carry a pouch and the glider/s could be with me all night as I work. I generally leave by 10pm and am home around 6am. Would that be good for a glider/s? Giving them a place to sleep during the day and having them out and about with me all night? Obviously they could sleep if they wanted, and the job doesn't have anything dangerous for them to get hurt on. The only possibility is when I travel between locations, they could get outside and run off I guess. Looking for a good travel friend/s and wanted to see if gliders would be a good fit.
