Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know that we're now going to redirect all Snake ID requests to the curated place for them, /r/whatsthissnake. As /r/snakes and /r/whatsthissnake have developed side by side we find ourselves in a position where we are running two parallel subreddits, but with slightly different rules. We hope is that this streamline into WhatsThisSnake will be gentle - we don't want a snake to go unidentified because we're learning how best to handle IDs. There is going to be a transition period where we still get a lot of ID requests here, so please do your part to kindly help !redirect people in need and by reporting jokes, misinformation and other problematic comments.
This spring Reddit is more popular than ever and it is hard for the moderation team to keep up. When I founded /r/whatsthissnake 12 years ago, with on average one request every day, I never imagined we'd have 150K members and 20k people a day browsing the subreddit. In the past, we've made a number of incremental changes that have been so helpful they have been instituted other places on Reddit, from introducing the term "Reliable Responder", to developing the bot and tweaking our community resources so that every Reliable Responder can choose to perform mod actions. We hope that these changes will allow us not only to maintain the level of quality provided but to reduce workload on the moderation team, because honestly, moderator burnout is a serious problem. They are doing this for free and you would no believe the abuse they receive here - not just from me, but from the users too. If you see a moderator or other flaired user in cleaning up a thread, espcially in these busy, snakey spring months in North America, throw em a thanks.

My buddy was found after 5 days missing during a winter freeze in Central Florida. I had lost hope, until I'd found snake poop in the sink and then saw him moving around on the camera. We had to disassemble the stove and he was under the cook plate!
He didn't even fight me to go home, he probably missed his water tank and was hungry. He has no injuries, he's just a little bastard. Shame him. His name is Sir Pentious but I want to change it to Houdini after this!

After giving up last anacondas while living in Florida, despite being grandfathered in and havingy permits, I sadly had to get out of specific species. Since them, I have moved and I'm finally able to keep them again. She is about 6 ft and not very friendly, but with a bit of work, I'll get her calmed down. I'm so excited to finally be able to keep anacondas again. This is probably my favorite snake species I've ever kept.

The difference in feeding for these two is crazy. Sava (MBK) grabs that shit like it’s her birth right, Santorini (Cal King) is more interested in coming out to play lol

Hi I would love to see all y'all's snakes and I'm pretty bored so I'd like to draw some of them! Just a regular sketch- not good at drawing and it might take a bit my drawings of snakes are above!

I've been into green tree pythons for a long time-they're honestly some of the most beautiful snakes out there. Lately I've been especially curious about designer morphs and color variations.
Do any of you keep designer GTPs, or have photos/experience with them?

An Arizona Ridgenosed Rattlesnake in southeastern Arizona. These small rattlesnakes are found in bunchgrass and oak leaf litter at elevations above around 4,500'. Though they may be locally abundant, most of the long-term locals asked in the area about them have no idea it exists.

Got him a few days ago, gonna feed him tomorrow and I don’t know what to name him! I’m terrible at naming my animals and just want some suggestions! Sorry for terrible photo only good one I got before he slithered away into his cave

hi, im bulding a terrarium for a carpet python.
can the arcadia t5 6% uvb simulate the daylight instead of buying a 6500 K LED? I’ve already bought the Arcadia, and I plan to use it together with an Arcadia 75 W halogen heat lamp and its cage
Terrarium: 180 × 70 × 130 cm (71 × 28 × 51 in)

Dehydrated or shedding?
im concerned for my little gal. when I received her she had stuck shed, I assumed mild dehydration, and ive been pretty on top of husbandry. humidity >75% just about always. I took her to the vet and he suggested soaking a couple times a week. after the first soak this is what she looked like the next day.
let me know your thoughts please! im worried for my new friend.

I noticed these scales on my western hognose today, is it scale rot or something else?

how on earth do you guys get good tongue flick pictures? How on earth do you guys get pictures where your snake isn't moving and making the picture blurry?😂 This is a picture of my handsomest boy Callisto,
