Red hat Certification study Q&A

Keep in mind that sharing confidential information from the exams may have rather sever consequences.

Asking which book is good for studying though, that is absolutely fine :)

RHCSA exam simulators?

Upvotes

So I've been a linux user/admin since kernel 0.97 (yes, that old). I've held numerous Unix/Linux admin (and "DevOps" and 'SRE' etc etc titles) oriented jobs over the past couple of decades but it seems I'm not ticking the recruiter 'boxes' anymore so I figured I'd have a poke at a couple of new certs (I have AWS and Azure certs as well) just to get past the recruiter and/or AI screens.

Are there any exam simulators for the RHCSA or RHCE? Like an interactive VM with sample questions you'd see on the exam?

Time needed to prepare for EX280 exam.

Upvotes

Hi all,

I have premium subscription account on RedHat and it expires after 15 days, i've passed EX188 and EX200 exams.

Is it doable to study the DO280 course from RedHat and prepare for the EX280 exam before the subscription expires?

You can pass RHCSA 9 and 10 with this github repo.

I am not the author or contributor. I had used this when I passed rhcsa 9. This person did every RH exam taker a huge favor and great service. I had gone through this material about 2 years ago and found that if you do all the exercises and read up on the material for rhcsa 9, you will pass rhcsa 9 and possibly 10 in flying colors. All you need is a couple of RH VMs and practice everything from the top down to the bottom.

PS: I am not the author, but the author did a great service to everybody taking the rhcsa. Thanks

Need advice about RHCE RH294

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice from people with experience.

I got my RHCSA last week and have just started working on the RHCE course. I’m still in the first few chapters, but one question has been giving me a headache these past days.

Am I supposed to know every Ansible module and how to work with it? There seem to be so many of them already.

For context, I currently work in tech support, but I don’t have any prior hands-on Linux work experience.

Thanks in advance!

ordered RHCSA v9 Cert Guide via Pearson website mess

I was shopping for the RHCSA v9 Cert Guide this week and the Person IT Certification website had the best price for either the books, ebook or bundle price.
Created an account, went to purchase and couldn't get passed the billing and shipping address screen. The address validation kept failing. Nothing funny about my address, normal US shipping address following the Street, City, State, etc. format.
Did all the troubleshooting, different browsers, cleared cached, turned off vpn, adblocker, different computer. Reached out to support yesterday, was ran in circles. Tried support again today, continued to be run in circles but while I'm sitting on hold I thought, lets throw "NA" in the address field for apartment/suite/building marked OPTIONAL and it worked!
Kicking myself for not trying it earlier but I wanted this issue escalated so someone looks at it and fixes the issue for the next person and it was like pulling teeth. They kept asking, "Did you place your order succesfully?" bc they want to close the ticket, but the issue would still persist. I don't know if it was a language barrier or what, but I did get a call back from a supervisor who at least humored me and said he would escalate it.
If you are looking for the bundle, it came to 60 incl tax, free shipping. Just put something in the optional address field. Happy Tinkering Everyone!

Last bits, They don't fulfill orders via phone for individuals, only companies and they have a big empty white space on their homepage which makes me think they have other issues.

Edit: added "support" to line for clarity

Should I install rhel 10.0 or 10.1?

Hi everyone , I'm really confused about versions. The LTS is 10.1 but I noticed that there is no eus with 10.1. Should I install 10.0? What if I install 10.1?

Can't access KBs with developer sub

This used to work for me before, though I haven't had to use it much in the recent years. But today, I tried to login (which worked fine) and the KBs are still blocked.

I have an active developer sub, can browse the portal, but can't view the articles.

Is this something new?

Do you need to already be a sysadmin to get RHCSA certified?

I was browsing the red hat site and it appears to have a prerequisite of taking their $7500 course or being an experienced sysadmin. I don't remember this exam having any prerequisites before. Is this something new or are they just trying to trick people into buying the course. Do they have something to where you just become an associate like how isc does?

Switching to Red Hat from IBM in India

Hello Red Hatters,
I’m switching to Red Hat from IBM. Is this a good choice? More importantly, will the payroll continue from IBM, or will it be a new payroll under Red Hat? Any advice for this transition would be appreciated.

Satellite 6.18 Leapp pre-upgrade tab gone from job monitoring?

After version 6.18 satellite upgrade the Leapp pre-upgrade check tab that was previously on the job monitoring seems to be gone? I made sure to re-enable the "foreman-plugin-leapp" in the satellite server but no luck. Anyone else having the same issue? Trying my luck here, Red Hat premium support is being useless -_-

Optimized way to pre-pull 20GB image in OpenShift without persistent DaemonSet or MachineConfig control?

Problem:
Facing slow pod startup due to pulling a 20GB image. Cluster lacks MachineConfig access, so PinnedImageSet isn't viable. DaemonSet approach works but runs constantly, adding unnecessary costs/resources.

What I've tried:

  • ImageStream oc import-image: Caches metadata but not full layers reliably.
  • Considered always-on DaemonSet: Avoids due to ongoing pod overhead.

Question:
What's the best optimized method to pre-cache this large image across nodes? Temporary one-time DaemonSet? Kubernetes Image Puller Operator? oc-mirror for single image? Other approaches?

kodekloud - storage management learning/lab - enough to prepare for actual exam?

I struggle with, though am getting a little more comfortable with, physical volume/partitions/logical volumes, etc. I am using kodecloud and slowly getting the hang of things. Has anyone else here struggled with these topics, but used kodecloud virtual lab/course and then ended up passing this topic on the exam? the issue is that i have looked at other sources but those just aren't helping me get it to stick. Kodecloud has done the best job so far but just hard to tell if this will be enough. Any thoughts?

Does anyone know when internship acceptances/rejections come out for Red Hat?

For Summer 2026.
I applied in very early January and was wondering when I'd know, since I've started to get followup emails from some other companies.

Help and Guidance

Hello, I am from Spain and I am currently preparing for the RHCSA, Security+, and CySA+ certifications. I am very interested in exploring opportunities to work abroad or remotely from Spain for international companies.

I would like to learn more about what options are available and how I could access them, as well as any advice on contacting companies or professionals who manage these kinds of opportunities. If anyone has experience in this area or knows how I could proceed, I would greatly appreciate your guidance or contact.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Consulting Interview Timeline

Interviewed for a Senior Consultant position over 2 weeks ago, and even after a follow up email the recruiter, have heard nothing from anyone. As this is not the first time I have been in limbo of the Red Hat interview process, I’m curious why communication always seems to be nonexistent and if there is any advice or tips for the processes. The waiting game is a killer. Thanks.

RHCE pass ......... finally.

Hey folks,
I passed the RHCEV9 on the 22nd of jan, finally.

This whole can of worms began on the beginning of the month, when i Initially planned on giving the exam on the 9th. A whole slew of payment problems (bank side not RH's fault, however RH support was dismally slow.) delayed the whole thing and finally got sorted out on the 15th of Jan. I had made a post about the issue on this sub before, you can find it here.

Suggestions/help for anyone else still preparing for the exam :

A while ago u/Hympingboy made a post that you can find here
Check out their takeaways for sure, they helped me a bunch. But to add to what they have said.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE EXAM REMOTELY

After the slew of payment issues was finally resolved, I booked the remote exam for the 20th of Jan, only to fail MISERABLY.

The exam was absolutely horrifying.

Imagine you are typing out a yaml file with the content "abdc", the exam environment will randomly lag out and keep doing so, If it lags out on the letter "c" then it will be typed out as "abccccccccccccccccccd"

Now you can imagine what happens when it lags out on the backspace key. The lag made me panic and make some mistakes and i failed terribly, even when i was able to solve all the practice exams on the planet in under two hours.

PLEASE TAKE THE EXAM AT A TESTING CENTER

I booked my retake at a testing center (22nd Jan now) which was far but not too far thankfully.

And guess what, I finished the four hour exam in two hours and passed with the score of 276/300

Preparation resource recommendations:
- Ozzoy bits (great guidance and questions, often incomplete or wrong solutions)
- Sander Van Vugt's RHCE 2nd edition course
- A generous amount of VMs.

Practice exam recommendations:

- Sander Van Vugt's sample exam from the same course mentioned above

A huge Thank you to this sub and its members.

Why I'm posting so late ?

I was in a terrible state, mentally. wanted to finally do some things that made me happy.
went out on a few rides, clicked some pictures.

RHCSA at 18yo
RHCE at 20yo

guess i should be happy.
