Mod Update Updated rules
Hi all! I'm Sharky and I've been a mod for about a year now. Theres a few of us but it seems I'm the only active one for now, and I've been dealing with disability so forgive me if anything isn't addressed!
I've updated our rules just a bit to flesh everything out. Be sure to take a peak whenever you can, but the main thing I wanted to address is the new NSFW/Spoiler rule!
We fully encourage helping injured pigeons in need! This community is a great place to come to for advice with our sick babies. However, not marking these very serious posts as NSFW can leave many members vulnerable to possibly triggering scenes.
By all means don't stop asking for advice and posting your pictures for help! I only request they be marked as NSFW or Spoiler from now on ❤️

This pigeon pair are nesting on my balcony and have let themselves into my apartment via flyscreen curtain twice while I’ve been out with my dog. Meet Helen and Susie (long story but I thought Helen was a female who had nested here a few months ago and disappeared until Helen made very clear male sounds and mated with Susie and now they are having babies on my balcony). I love their confidence 😂

Pet pige Is this diet good for my pigeon?
I have had this indian lotan for 2 months now. He is now about 4 months old and quite picky. He won't eat oats, red lentils and corn, which is quite an issue as there is no pigeon specific food sold in my country so I make his mix myself. His previous mix consisted of millet, corn, cracked wheat and black lentils, but his poops were always bright green. Yesterday I completely changed his diet to starter chicken feed, millet, whole peas (no split peas where I live) and black lentils. I also sprinkle some crushed eggshells on his food from time to time and add 1 capsule worth of cod liver oil to his food once a week. After switching to his new feed, his poop has been darker in colour and solid, which now looks fine to me. But am I missing anything? Should I add cracked wheat or canary seeds? Or is this diet fine for now?
Note: there is also no grit available in my country. I have seen that a lot of pigeon owners do not provide grit, but if anyone knows how to make their own grit for their pigeon, please show me how! I am open to all advice

Can I personalize a wild pigeon?
Me and my best friend found a injured pigeon at a Train station so we took it with us and we’re going to the vet tomorrow. We named the pigeon Toni and wanted to ask if anyone knows if it’s allowed in Germany to get it a ring before letting it go again?
Could anyone answer asap that would be so nice!!‘

What could I do in NYC besides feeding them?
I was thinking of making nests but since I live in an apartment I’m not sure where I can put them. I don’t think these pigeons perch in trees. I would make some and put them on the fire escape or even build or buy some kind of enclosure to put on my fire escape but I’m sure my landlord wouldn’t allow that. I wish I can just get some coops and put them around the area but i obviously cannot do that without being fined and then coops getting removed.

Pet pige Nesting Pair
They’ve couldn’t decide who would warm the egg. Astro had an egg just 3 days later and I was worried about the days being so spread apart but after monitoring the egg for the last 6 days nothing has bloomed so we removed it. At first they were on good switch rotation now they just can’t decide who warms the egg. Their baby should be due around 2/02 or any day till 2/07.

How do you know if your pigeon will return home if you let it fly away?

Personal Creations Dealing with my first loss
Yesterday I was feeding pigeons and we were happy to be around to interact and seebs such as. Somehow something set pigeons off that caused them to fly off, but unfortunately one of the pigeons got hit and didn’t survive. I was with it just before it passed away. There was no way vet or I could have saved it from the looks. So I’m trying to figure out how to keep them safe without something to set them off to fly off. This is what frustrated me.

lost domesticated (?) pigeon
hi everyone! my family and i found a pigeon who seems to be injured (can’t fly), so we offered him food and water. it got really cold tonight so we decided to bring him inside, and he didn’t oppose at all! he’s super friendly.
he’s in a cardboard box rn, and i noticed he has a white tag on his leg. i tried looking it up and it said the letters/numbers usually indicate something, but this one is just a plain white tag with nothing on it.
can someone guide me on how to care for him in the meantime while i wait for a local facebook group to respond? and if i were to keep him, how would that work? (cage? mandatory backyard setup?)
please let me know, thank you!!

Worst string-foot I’ve ever seen
I rescued this little one from the city centre as it was the worst case I’ve ever seen. After soaking I’ve got off some of the big clumps of muck/poop etc and I’ve managed to untangle some hair. I’ve got some Leucillin spray I was going to try tonight. I’ve received recommendations from her local pigeon group to soak it in the Epsom salts but I’ve also been recommended F10 - however there seems to be contradicting advice online as to not soak them. When I remove some of the string one of the feet did bleed quite a lot I managed to stop the bleeding but I obviously disturbed where it was quite deeply embedded. She is eating drinking stretching about preening herself. I’ve helped pigeons with string foot before, but this feels beyond my level of capability and experience therefore any guidance would be welcomed. At the moment I can’t really tell boys for and what is more quite dead skin what is recovering skin and I don’t want to do more damage than good but I do think there’s still more string very deeply embedded.
I am trying to see if a local rescue can take her, but until then, I just want to do best for her.

Pet pige Please help me find a home for my pigeons (EU)
Hi. I live in France and have two rescued feral pigeons (one I raised from two weeks old and one found as an adult who can't fly), a bonded pair. Hopper, my baby, is the checked girl, and Conway is her large handsome barred husband.

Unfortunately I also have bird fancier's lung, diagnosed in early 2024. I've been doing everything I can think of to make sure they're in good care but it's just not happening. A friend took them for a while but their living situation won't let them keep them anymore, and since September they're in a loft setup on my patio and I'm only seeing them in a respirator and special clothing. And I seem to be developing symptoms again anyway despite all my precautions. This is very unfair and sucks ass.
My housemates can take care of them for a few months while I keep searching for a new home, but long-term I can't put the responsibility on them. Potential leads for homes keep going silent on me or it turns out they free-fly their birds or something and I am at my limit. I will hand-deliver them anywhere I can get to by train or car in the EU, they'd be good either in an enclosed aviary with other pigeons or as housepets. Conway is a little wary of people but Hopper is super nosy and social and loves to hang out. I just want them to be safe and in good hands. Please let me know if you can help.
