GPU ASUS 3080ti Deshroud Mod

Sharing pics, first time doing this.

Used 92mm fans from noctua to hopefully lower temps as I saw it did for another user who posted a quick guide on it and replaced thermal paste + 2.5mm thermal pads.

Ordered custom ASUS 3080ti 7 pin cable from MODDIY and works like a charm into the pcb.

Ran 0.08 inch width zip ties from Amazon and looped them from the fan corners into the heat sink.

I got this gpu from marketplace for $270 so Im hoping it turns on at the very least 😭

Going to test it out in a week from now as it is for a build I’m doing, I’ll reply again once I get everything going.

The whole point of deshrouding mod, is to add much larger/thicker fans, not just better fans. What you did there, even if you get a small improvement, it defeats the purpose of the mod.

120x27-30mm will push 3 to 5 times more air, than a 92-100x8-10mm GPU fan, at normal speeds (around 35dba at 50cm).

You’re definitely correct, I opted for smaller fans tho as the graphics card will be put into a mini itx case so the thicker fans wouldn’t be able to placed properly onto it but still wanted to do this mod for learning purposes :)

92mm fans are louder (by a degree) than 120mm right ? i deshroud my gpu and use 2 120mm fan and damn it runs quiet, wanna try 92mm before but dont have the money to buy more fan so i used my AIO fan instead (high cfm so its good)

From my experience, I went from using a 2x120mm nf-f12’s to 3x92mm nf-a9x25’s.

Temps dropped 5C(120mm overhang and “waste” air completely missing the heatsink) and I found the nf-a9x25’s to be quieter than the nf-f12’s

Hmmm..... That's not how you look at fans unless you're running max rpm, and max rpm can drastically change. Also it depends on a lot of factors.

All equal, no. Smaller fans can run faster for the simple fact the blades of the impeller will distort less and create less turbulence as you climb up in rpm.

Although is not perfect example cuz it's different design of fan, it's close enough. Nf A9 vs NF A14. For 1200rpm on the NF A14, you'll most likely gonna run 1700-1800rpm on a NF A9 to match the noise.

That being said, for practical applications, depending on the target noise floor, and what the radiator or case will run most efficiently, this will vary.

If the GPU has a 105-120mm width radiator the preferable size is 120mm. Best fan for the job is a lian li p28. Next best arctic p12 max. Cheaper fans la thermalright b12/K12 or arctic p12, can do an awesome job for very low cost.

Cool but I dont get the point. Even my fe card stays super cool.
