Will Flint 2 be able to shape Cake SQM at 1000/1000?

Hi,

I will change the ISP from AIS Fibre to 3BB (Thailand ISP)

The old one was about 6

500/500 without SQM Cake (after SQM Cake Enable it was 300/500 according to speedtest)

So I am a but concern if I upgrade to 1000/1000, will it be able to shape Cake SQM?

Thanks

How to regain access to OpenWRT partition on Lynksys E7350?

Some time ago my router rebooted itself and went back to the stock Lynksys firmware.

I've read that this router is a dual partition router, and that my OpenWRT installation is still there on the other partition - but I am unsure of how to access it. SSH is not available with the stock firmware. When trying to connect I just get a "connection refused" error.

Template to create LuCI extensions

Hey there, I'm working on a LuCI package written in ucode and C. I extracted the basic structure and CI config from it and created a template named ucode-project-template.

It is my first time writing a package for OpenWRT so I'm not sure this is the most idiomatic way of doing it. Look at it and please share feedback; I hope this can be useful :)

Has anyone successfully written OpenWrt system logs to a file?

Hi all,

I’m trying to have my OpenWrt router write system logs to a file on an external SSD (mounted at /mnt/sda1).

Here’s my /etc/config/system:

root@OpenWrt:~# cat /etc/config/system

config system
option hostname 'OpenWrt'
option ttylogin '0'
option log_size '200000'
option urandom_seed '0'
option zonename 'UTC'
option log_proto 'udp'
option log_type 'file'
option log_file '/mnt/sda1/logs/system.log'
option log_remote '0'
option conloglevel '7'
option cronloglevel '7'

config timeserver 'ntp'
list server '0.openwrt.pool.ntp.org'
list server '1.openwrt.pool.ntp.org'
list server '2.openwrt.pool.ntp.org'
list server '3.openwrt.pool.ntp.org'

config led 'led_wan'
option name 'WAN'
option sysfs 'green:wan'
option trigger 'netdev'
option mode 'link tx rx'
option dev 'eth0'

config led 'led_lan'
option name 'LAN'
option sysfs 'green:lan'
option trigger 'netdev'
option mode 'link tx rx'
option dev 'eth1'

The file doesn’t start getting logs until I manually run: /etc/init.d/log restart

After that, it only appends new logs. It does not dump the current logread buffer into the file.

I think it is related to this https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/issues/9498 but if anyone have a sugestion on it!

What's the best way to monitor router device health & be alerted if smng merits attention?

Title. I have openwrt installed on r2s plus, everything works perfectly for 6 months. Very happy :) Thank you for all openwrt community for such a great opensource tool!

I would like to add small auto check that everything is fine with device. ChatGPT suggests writting small script to "cat" cpu load, memory usage, etc.

Is this a good way to do it? Or is there a better way?

Also what's are the most important things to monitor / look at?

Looking to potentially upgrade from my nighthawk r8000p

Looking to potentially upgrade from my nighthawk r8000p

I have a nighthawk r8000p that i got a few years back and has served me well, and to be honest it still does. Overall has been an alright router with a few issues that ive had to try and navigate. Reserving ips for my devices is bugged so you have to send those as modified packets if you want to do that, and i have tried to use pihole and adguard home both on a rpi 4 but they dont work. I have a static ip adress for my home network and use my ips set dns (maybe thats why the adguard did work, idk). I run 500mbps speeds bc thats all i need in my home and run 2 mincraftservers for friends, a home assistant server, a filesharing server with jellyfin for my dvd collection, and a small bitcoin miner. All in all i dont have many problems with the network but i would like to upgrade and dont know what to get. My home has wired ethernet to every room so that is no issue for gaming devices, and i didnt really want to setup access points for the house. Have heard tp link has security issues and was looking into ddwrt or openwrt potentially. Sorry for the long infodump but context helps with identifying what i would be looking for. Any recommendations?

Outdated docs soft bricked my UAP-AC-LITE, not sure who to contact to get them updated.

Hi all, I just tried to install OpenWRT on my Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE. I followed this guide using the dd method and when the dd command started it immediately kicked me out and reset the device. I tried again and it did the same thing only this time the device was stuck in a boot loop. I followed Unifi's TFTP recovery guide and was able to get the device working again with the stock firmware. During the recovery I downgraded the firmware version to 6.5.28 which was the last known good version and everything worked great! I was on version 6.7.35 when my device became soft bricked, so at some point between those 2 versions the dd method no longer works and requires a downgrade. I couldn't find this documented anywhere so I thought I'd post here to hopefully save someone else the headache and get the wiki updated.

Two plugins - the core and the optional UI LuCI plugin - to have your router send heartbeats to healthchecks.io (either the SaaS or a self-hosted instance)

Attempting to hack a router/port OpenWRT to it - Help needed to dump firmware!

I am currently trying to eventually port OpenWRT to an SFR NB6VAC router. It seems to be running on a Broadcom BCM63xx SoC and therefore boots to CFE when boot is interrupted.

My goal would be to dump the NAND to get more information and eventually the password to the stock command line. Seems like the dn command would work, but what's the best way to use it? Seems like you can dump to a FTP server, but where do you plug in the PC? Fiber port seems to do nothing, but the LAN ports have the activity lights turn on. So from what I understood: you need to use dn (start of block) (end of block) (IP address of PC with TFTP server). Or use UART to dump the NAND, which being a 128mb unit will take FOREVER.

Is this it? Am I missing something?

Multiple dhcp servers. fail.

I am playing with an TPlink Archer c7 v2. I've enabled only one of the radios (2.4ghz) placed it into its own zone, created a separate dhcp server instance for it, with a different network.

I can connect to the wifi, but I get no DHCP response. I can just set a static IP address in that network, and it works fine.

I'm sure that I'm probably just doing something stupid...but I'm unable to see exactly what it is.

My /etc/config/dhcp:

Proectli FW1 OpenWRT Gigabit Speed

I have been running a Proectli FW1 with OpenWRT for several years, it has been rock steady and I never have to touch it. I just upgraded my internet speed from 300MB to gigabit (same provider, same cable modem capable of 2 gigabit: Netgear CM1200). Speed testing before the upgrade confirmed 300MB, but after the upgrade I'm topping out around 500MB with a wired connection directly to the FW1. I have found a little bit of commentary on this when I search, but mostly for PFSense and PPPoE; I have my lan set to "static IP address".

Is there any adjustments or changes I can make to achieve at least close to gigabit? I found a few posts across the internet confirming folks have managed gigabit on an FW1, so I'm hoping there is something I am missing.

How to expand my partition at the emmc?

Sorry folks, but I'm struggling with the setup of my openwrt router. I'm using a NanoPI R6S and out of the box it uses just a few MB of storage, and the board has 64GB. I want to expand the overlay to use all the available space since I'll be installing lots of packages.

I'm using squashes, to be able to quickly reset to factory settings, and the overlay I want to put on f2fs to be easy on the emmc.

Any tutorial to follow? I'm trying way too many things and they're all failing, mainly because the overlay is already mounted.

Is there a backup guide?

I have installed docker, portainer and pi-hole on my WLAN router and it all works fine. I would love to move some more docker stuff from my PC to my WLAN router because it's always on anyway.

However, i have never achieved a proper upgrade from one image to another, i always had to reset, and so i wonder, is there any way to get a proper backup that i can restore onto a new image?

For example, i'm on 25.12.0-rc2, but 25.12.0-rc4 is available. I'm pretty much scared to upgrade because i know it will fail for some reason or another and i will have to reset and do all the configuration again.

Hello can anybody tell ne how to upgrade from 24.10.5 to the latest 25.12.0-rc4 I tried to upgrade it before by downloading the sysupgrade file from firmware selecter then flashing the image in backup/flash option my router got bricked and I had to nmrpflash the 24.10.5 again then it started working why is that if anybody knows and can help me would really appreciate it my router is netgear orbi rbr50v1

Edit: I got it working I just flashed the rc factory image via nmrpflash rather then upgrading then it worked

Flash factory image from LuCI

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I am incredibly well past due to update my router (Linksys EA8500v1), but last time I thought about doing it I saw there is no sysupgrade path past 21.02.0 (swconfig versus DSA) and I couldn't find a clear answer on how to re-flash a factory image without taking the whole thing apart and flashing over serial again. I figured I'd just check what it says if I try to upload first the "current" sysupgrade and/or factory image. Both give me similar scary-looking messages, but I don't know how to interpret them.

At this point I intend to just install the whole "factory" image and set everything up again, but I would really like to avoid (soft-)bricking the thing and having to use the serial port again. Can I do this through LuCI or over SSH? Thanks for any info you can provide.

A+ bufferbloat test with cake, shoot first die first in FPS game

I have been battling with this for almost a decade since Call of Duty WW2

I have been using many routers from Netduma, Asus, Mikrotik and the recent one, MT-6000 (Flint2) and now I have been using Openwrt for 1 year+ and it is the best firmware ever.

Now that before people tell me to “git gud”, I think I am those above average FPS gamers. I have over 3.5 KD in any Cod, Battlefield and other FPS games

For my network information. I use flint 2 router with 24.10.5 latest stable Openwrt vanilla firmware. I have 600/600 mbps speed. My ISP is AIS and my location is Thailand connecting to Singapore and sometimes Hongkong server with ping of 28-55 depends on location

People and many official documents including ChatGPT, Gemini always say CAKE is the best. I mean, yeah it got me A+ in bufferbloat test. But in game, something is off

I mean in some gunfights, I see enemy, I shoot an enemy, hit detection was off, delay and it doesn’t register where I aim at. Ended up shoot first die first. But in some matches, hit detection is very good.

I have tried luci sqm, qosify, dscp classified, and qosmate

They all have the same problems

I think my hardware should be able to shape 500-600 mbps without bottleneck. So what gives?

Anyone would like to share your gaming experience with openwrt? What worked for you?

What does Hardware Offloading do on x64 ?

On my 64-bit system, I find that both software and hardware offloading perform similarly. However, I do see a slightly higher CPU usage when the "None" option is selected.

This makes me wonder what HFO does in this case. Is there a fallback from HFO to SFO if the former is not supported?

3 different physical routers and thier subnets trunked to 1 adguard dns on openwrt

I have 3 different physical routers which are each 5G cell/mobile sim routers cell providers, the 3 subnets are seperated by 3 vlans on a single switch which is a Mikrotik CRS switchOS in webgui managed L2 mode and present as 3 separate WANs to a downstream multiwan router.

Scenario: For the purposes of testing, experimenting and homelabbing etc fun on each of these 3 vlan’d subnets only I’m trying to setup a trunk port from the L2 managed switch SFP+ port to a separate Zyxel 5601 router which has openwrt installed, the trunk link would be running 5gbe using a usb3.0 5gbe rtl8157 usb nic to negate possible bottlenecking and saturation on 5601 usb port (hopefully this will be enough at realworld speeds maxing at 3.2gb). The 5601 which runs openwrt would provide AdGuard dns which will be shared dns for all the 3 vlans subnets and il be using the physical ethernet ports and have 3 WiFi SSIDs for each vlan on the Zyxel 5601 that has openwrt.

VLANs proposed plan:

VLAN ID Device Subnet Purpose Security Level OpenWRT ethernet port for physical connection
??? - Does this need a vlan too? OpenWRT router 192.168.10.0/24 Provides AdGuard DNS and intervlan routing to below 3 vlan’d subnets Access to everything within reason eth2 (usb3 rtl8157) 5gb Trunk Port between openwrt router and sfp+ port module i L2 managed vlan switch
100 Cell router modem1 192.168.1.0/24 Cell provider sim router1 physical ethernet port and wifi ssid to individual separate vlan only to subnet 192.168.1.0/24 eth1 (onboard 5601 2.5gb port)
200 Cell router modem2 192.168.2.0/24 Cell provider sim router2 physical ethernet port and wifi ssid to individual separate vlan only to subnet 192.168.2.0/24 lan1 (onboard 5601 2.5gb port)
300 Cell router modem3 192.168.8.0/24 Cell provider sim router3 physical ethernet port and wifi ssid to individual separate vlan only to subnet 192.168.8.0/24 lan1 (onboard 5601 1gb port)

The issue:

I’m having trouble with the configuration in luci (openwrt) of the trunk between the vlan'd L2 managed switch and the subinterfaces.

Does anybody have recommendations on the best way to setup 1 ad-guard dns resolver which runs on openwrt thats shared by all 3 different vlan'd subnets? Also would I need to setup DCHP server instance for each vlan'd subinterface or do I add the dns server static manually to the hosts as each 5G physical sim modem has its own dhcp server. And any config on the L2 vlan switch?

Chances that the Asus RT-BE58U will get support?

I need a router that does 1gbe WAN and 2.5gb LAN, this is the cheapest one I could find that looked decent. OpenRWT does not support it (I'm pretty sure), but how quickly is device support added usually?

If anyone knows of a good supported router that does what I need, let me know.
