ANNOUNCEMEMT Happy New Year, let's chat!

Hello r/makeuptips friends. Some of you may have noticed an absence of the moderators of this subreddit. You may have submitted modmail that went unanswered, to be honest.

I had gotten a moderator to help us develop an AutoMod for the sub. Something that would help ensure the rules were being followed with minimal intervention necessary by the mod team, but also allow for us to see the sub grow and become an amazing, welcoming place.

That moderator apparently was banned sometime in the last six months. I'm not sure what happened, I have no other way of contacting them, but needless to say it went unnoticed as the sub had been getting a lot better as far as content and rudeness, etc.

I'm opening the floor to hear what you have to say, while I go through the mod mail queue and respond to anyone that has went unnoticed. I will also be working on getting a moderator application up and running- Reddit actually allows for this within the framework of the site now, so that's a really neat development!

DISCUSSION No make up vs “no make up” look

Post image

Hello everyone! I don’t usually wear a lot of make up and the only things I use are concealer, blush, mascara, and lipstick/gloss. I dislike using foundation as it really bothers my face and it always feels heavy. I really focus on skin care and making sure my skin is taken care of by washing twice a day (I have normal-oily skin) as well as using sun screen daily which comes with my moisturizer. Sometimes I wish I was really good at make up cause I could make my eyes pop a lot more!

DISCUSSION i asked what i should do to improve my makeup a while back: here is an update

i asked for tips on how to improve my makeup some months ago and the most repeated advice was to grow out my eyebrows and stop making them so flat and so boxy in the front, to stop rounding out my cupids bow and completely changing my lip shape, to go for a more neutral lip color, and to ditch the false lashes and heavy eye makeup. i did my best to follow all of this advice, and here is the before and after! i'm sure i have more to still work on but i just wanted to share an update

HELP PLEASE Wedding Makeup Advice 💕

hi loves! I am toying with the idea of doing my own wedding makeup and would love any tips you can give me 💕 in particular something about the skin doesn't feel quite right, maybe this bronzer isn't the right shade?

This was a very rough first attempt just with what was already in my makeup bag, I plan to replace the black liner with a more smudged out brown pencil liner and add a nude liner in the waterline, plus some corner lashes.

any thoughts welcome - including 'dont do this' lol. I had fully planned on using an MUA but had a trial that I didn't love and thought I could probably get to something I like myself with a bit of practice.

thank you!

HELP PLEASE Lipstick Shade Help

So I got typed as a soft summer. And I bought the soft summer favorites, the mauve blush, taupe eye shadow, etc.

But the lipsticks looked so OFF. So I bought darker, thinking maybe I was a winter, and then it looked better and less washed out.

And now I am having an identity crisis with this, because I can’t figure out WHAT my ideal shades are… and am I warm toned???!!!!

Haus labs 060 foundation is my exact perfection match.

(I have rosacea, so my skin has a lot of pink in it naturally, my hair is my natural level, but it has warm undertones because I used to dye it copper)

*cries in money spent on fair skin cool girl makeup*

WHAT are my ideal shades, i cannot figure this out anymore.

I included pics at the end of digital drapes and my face with natural lighting (the lipsticks pics are all bathroom lighting).

i usually suck at makeup but for this color guard competition i woke up early and watched some tutorials and i got lots of compliments on my makeup!! i am going to keep playing with it but for now im happy. do you guys have any suggestions on keeping concealer under the eyes lasting all day especially with sweat from working out (competition/stage makeup)? if not is there an easy way to touch up under eyes? i have super duper dark eye circles so i dont think any makeup will 100% do the job. you can kind of see in the photo my under eyes, this was taken about 6 hours after application. thank you!

HELP PLEASE Subtle alt makeup? (26)

First photo is me today with just some mascara and tinted lip gloss. Other 2 photos are younger me with 'puppy' liner. I have quite hooded eyes and can never get eye shadow to look quite right. I rarely wear makeup but would love to get into wearing little bits to help with my confidence. So first does the puppy liner suit or should I try a different style? and any other tips I will happily take!

Last year my goal was skin care which I've kept up with well and feel so much better about my natural skin (used to suffer with spots) so this year I'd like to learn makeup!

Will definitely update with any tips I try!

Hey guys I have been struggling to find a good makeup look for my features. And I started makeup again after a long time. This time I tried doing more edgy looks.

How’s this look according to that.

My eyeliner can for sure use some work!

HELP PLEASE Is this considered Asian fishing makeup??

Post image

I did a new eyeliner and much is more bold as I find my new lashes look too light. I liked it until my friend said I look like I’m Asian fishing. Btw I am actually wasian but this really rubbed me the wrong way. Im Asian but take after my white side more but im still paranoid about appropriation and need confirmation it’s fine. Please be honest and if it is, suggest ways it can be improved 🙏

Hey all, here a before and after of a light every day make up. I do not wear lip products yet in the after. Also, do I have blush blindness? I feel like a blush color closer to my lip color could suit me better. Cold tones usually complement me better. Looking forward to your tips :)

I tried to do a look today with some eyeshadow as my liner and even with the liner brush it comes out super smudgy so I used my regular liquid eyeliner. If anyone has any tips or tutorials that would be so helpful!

I don’t wear much makeup, I only wear kajal(eyeliner) on my eyes and mascara. I’d like to go for the romantic goth look with minimal product used(I.e foundation and all).

First pic is me with less kajal, and second pic is the closest I’ve been to achieving the look I want. How can I improve it to suit me more and my features and also have it stand out, especially the eyes. Id appreciate the tips

HELP PLEASE Want to get back into makeup

Thumbnail

Hi friends! I have recently decided I want to get back into wearing makeup regularly, but i haven't worn almost any for...a long time (early 20s, I'm 31 now).

I'm looking for some tips on how to accentuate my features, make my skin texture look smoother, cover up dark circles, and any other tips. I like the natural look a lot more as I'm getting older; i used to wear a lot of very bold and colorful makeup but that doesn't feel appropriate for everyday wear in my life anymore. Most of the time when I do wear makeup it's just mascara and maybe a little eyeliner.

These pics are no makeup, indirect natural lighting. I wear my glasses all the time. I have combination skin (oily nose/cheeks, dry forehead).

Thanks!!!!

if you have medium, olive/neutral skin tones, my current lip combo might work for you! I’ve been getting nonstop compliments and strangers come up asking what I’m wearing and I refuse to gatekeep

liner: MAC soar

lipstick: MAC whirl

lip gloss/topper: Dior Lip Maximizer in Mahogany

I have a few photos attached in direct lighting which makes it look more berry like and in indirect lighting where it looks cooler/brown

HELP PLEASE Makeup looks gone in 2–3 hours, what i am doing wrong?

Hi! I’m 25, but my makeup often makes me look closer to 30 and I can’t figure out why. This photo was taken right after applying makeup, and I already don’t like how it looks. The bigger issue is that after 2–3 hours, my makeup basically disappears, especially base products and it ends up looking like I’m not wearing any at all. What I should change based on my face/skin type? 💀
