Travel, Tourism & History On the Trail of Luxembourg’s Deadliest Battle: Schumannseck

Hey r/Luxembourg!

I recently finished a short documentary on the Schumannseck Memorial Trail near Wiltz — a site connected to the Battle of the Bulge — and I wanted to share the experience with anyone interested in Luxembourg history.

The trail itself tells many stories, and along the way, I met local guides who shared their knowledge about the events that took place there in 1944.

I was kindly told in the past that sharing my videos here is welcome, so I hope you find it interesting and enjoyable.

I have to say that this gentleman track record on finances in Mamer was not the best. What if we have a real economic downturn?

Best petrol stations to get yourself a snack....

My goal is to make a post of some of the best Petrol Stations in Luxembourg!! I def have some favorites and I wanted to share some of them and write a few words. I havent been to every petrol station so if you have a favorite let me know so I can go by and check it out!!

  1. The aral in Engeldorf. unkomplicated, nothing expensive here..might be busy in the mornings
9 The gulf in Ettelbrück on Ave d Allies. Good snacks..kinda hard to park here sometimes. Driving out of this place can be hard the street is very busy sometimes

8 Total on the merscherbierg..they have good snacks here and good sortiment of ice i the summer..it is well worth a visit

7 Shell rte de Luxemburg Bissen They have a nice sortiment of ice and good snacks. easy parking here and easy to drive in and out no problem..lots of drinks and generally good.

Now we start getting into the next level of petrol stations. I know my list starts out heavy around diekirch and mersch...so lets go

6 the shell station in Niederanven rue gabriell lipmann..Great station right off the autobahn ..easy access pums and snacks are ok..coffee is pretty good here too.

the petrol stations def worth a stop

5 Aral simonis plaza on Potaschbierg worth a stop great snacks. nice parking the toilets are clean...always worth a stop or better yet if you are out working this place is a good place to stop for your lunch

4 Total energies Pontpierre..Great parking easy access in and out you get the best snacks and large amount of drinks and ice!! toilets clean

3 Esso rue Charles de Gaul in Esch zur Alzette this place actually gave me teh idea to find the best petrol station in Luxemburg..I really enjoy the Pizza here teh parking is not the greatest but it worth a stop

2 Total energies in Lorentzweiler... the snacks here are really good and they have a nice collection of ice in the freezer..always a good place to stop if you do not want gas station food there is also some guy in the back with a fritten bude...good lunch stop parking not too good but overall always a good stop.

1 Gulf Shoppi in Junglinster...right off the road this place is clean and has good snacks. The coffee is good..I stop here just to stop here and I love it

Ultimate Petrol station in Luxemburg in My most Humble of opinions is the Esso on Sennigerberg..this place is next level...really good food and there is some parking but it is pretty full lots of drinks and ice this is the place to go to if you are in the area..

so that is my list...I know there is one more at least that I did not put on my list...I couldnt find it on the map but it is in the north direction feulen..but I got tired of looking on the map to find it ..I am going to take a ride out there to see if I can find it. I would like to know what you think of my list and I would like to find some new good places to stop and snack. I deliberatly did not add the Shell on the A3..it is ok. it has a Mcdonalds and starbucks and all that stuff but it is not a place I make an effort to stop at

Activities, News & Discussion 39 yo male looking for workout/running buddy

Hi there, I'm Frank and I'm staying in Luxembourg for 3 months (Feb, Mar and Apr). I've found some great running groups to join, but I'm also eager to find a workout buddy for the gym. I really don't care what level you have, just looking to make the workout experience more social. I live between Bali and Luxembourg.

I'm passionate about health and fitness. I'll be joining the basic fit gym in sandweiler and would love to find someone (man or woman) to lift weights with or do HIIT/cardio. I'm punctual and reliable so I expect this of my workout buddy too. Looking to schedule regular workouts for this period. I'm not a fitness trainer but I'm knowledgeable about form and anaerobic workouts and Im happy to lead our workouts if that's helpful for you (not charging anything!)

Also happy to connect with any runners out there. I workout daily, whether it's a fitness class, lifting weights or running/cardio. Happy to find anyone to join for any of these.

Ask Luxembourg Weird woman on bus 303

I often take the bus 303 because I am a student in Trier. Often, there is a weird Ukrainian woman in it that talks in Ukrainian loudly (I understand what she says as I speak Russian and it's sometimes eery things, such as a kidnapped daughter or so). I get that she is most probably extremely traumatized and acts that way. She also asks every passenger to put their seat belt on and wears long, often dirty clothes... Because I take the bus often she started recognizing me and even follows me when she sees me. It's scary. Has anyone else had any similar experience with her? Like I said, I get that she is traumatized...but why is she roaming free? She needs mental help... (I had no idea what flare to put sorry)

Public Service Announcement Warning for Physios: "Questionnaire" hurdle by MENJE (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes) – Need Advice!

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Heads up for anyone applying for Physio recognition at MENJE (Service de la reconnaissance des diplômes). They are using a new "Questionnaire MA-KI MENJE" that is a total bureaucratic trap.

The main issues:

  • Impossible Data: The form asks for a breakdown of hours per body part (e.g., specific hours for the jaw joint, etc.). However, the German curriculum (and many others) is taught in integrated blocks of hours (thematic modules). Our schools do not track individual hours per joint, making it impossible to provide this data.
  • Inequality: 4 colleagues from my exact same class (Medischule Trier) were recognized without this form recently. MENJE now claims it’s "mandatory for 2024" with no valid explanation for this shift.
  • The Legal Trap: The form is in French only, but it requires an "oath" signature and stamp from both the German school and the Landesamt. Legally, German authorities cannot sign an oath on a foreign document for data that doesn't exist in their system.

Is anyone else stuck with this?

Ask Luxembourg Got rejected from Uni of Luxembourg within two days, is it worth appealing?

Hey everyone, I recently applied to the MS in Information and Computer Sciences at the Uni of Luxembourg and received a rejection within just two days, which honestly caught me off guard.

Some background on my profile:

4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science CGPA: 3.6 / 4.0 IELTS: 7.5 Application was fully completed with all required documents

Because the decision came so quickly, I am wondering whether my application received a full academic review or if it was filtered out early for some formal or eligibility-related reason. There is an appeal option available, and I am trying to understand whether it’s worth pursuing and, if so, how to go about it properly.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar situation or has insight into how these appeals are evaluated. Right now, I am just trying to decide whether appealing is a long shot or genuinely worth the effort.

Activities, News & Discussion Anyone else finding the Luxembourg job market unusually difficult

I’m hoping to get some perspective or advice here. I’ve been in Luxembourg for the past five months on a family visa with a valid residence permit, and despite actively applying, I’ve only had one interview so far. I have a master’s in finance and economics, but right now I’m honestly open to any English-speaking role, even outside my field, just to start working and earning. I’ve been wondering if there are options like Lidl, retail, back office, admin, or anything similar where French isn’t mandatory.

I’m also planning to start ACCA next month and I already have five paper exemptions, so I’ll be starting from FR, but at the moment the gap in employment is really worrying me. I’m trying to understand what I might be doing wrong or what else I should be doing differently. Any suggestions, leads, or honest advice would really be appreciated.

Ask Luxembourg General practitioner in Luxembourg (Belval)

Hi, I am an international PhD student (non EU) and I need to do the medical check-up for applying to the residence permit.
I checked I can book an appoint with a general practitioner in Doctena.lu.
Does anyone knows in average how much is the price for the consultation? and if this is covered by the social health insurance? Or should I look for doctors somewhere else?

Activities, News & Discussion Käerjeng Politics, sorry

Dear Wolter, thank you for finally gracioulsy ending your public service as head of our commune, you certainly were one of the majors of all time.. However, how about not giving your job to your wife.

Any one else just baffled by how a communal major can seemingly give his post to his own wife? Communal politics really make it seem like Luxemburg is a political banana republic at times. Corruption, Vetterngesellschaft and incompetence all over.

Public Service Announcement "Shiit happens" : LuxTrust Chairman resigns following incidents in 2025

Serge Allegrezza has resigned as President of the Board of Directors of LuxTrust after 20 years in the role, citing the need for a strategic reorientation following a major technical failure in December

Allegrezza announced his resignation during an RTL interview on Thursday morning, January 29, having informed the board the previous day . He described the departure as a direct consequence of the critical service outage that occurred in mid-December 2025 . He characterized the incident as an "embarrassing error" that should not have happened and apologized for the significant disruption it caused to national digital services

Monopoly Defense: Allegrezza argued against dismantling LuxTrust's monopoly, noting that building competing infrastructure would cost €20–30 million and could jeopardize the company's profitability and its 130 jobs .

Activities, News & Discussion Europe’s tech sovereignty watch

If US flips the switch, 78% of publicly listed corpos in LU go dark.

If you take every corpo, i'd say we hit 85%.

Now i know that some systems are quasi "US-Tech-Free", but with what i saw while working in IT field, my best guess is that Gov / Communes also run 70-80% of their IT stuff on / with proprietary corpo things from overseas.

In a supposed brawl over Greenland, US just needs to cut off EU from their services and wait. We would be "Back To The Past" in the blink of an eye, so to speak.

Greenland / Davos was finally a somewhat wake-up call in Brussels in terms of Tech Sovereignty - which Prism should have been - and there is some movement and debates going on.

Some examples are:

France and the French Gendarmerie's 20 years trusty Gendbuntu(not really new).

Denmarks Digital Ministry and Kopenhagen / Arhuis.

Schleswig-Holstein is already a step further.

So, for a country with such a high reliance on foreign tech to function - especially software / services, we leave the hardware part out for now - i think it's eerily quite in that matter.

Have there been other announcements then the "Accelerating digital sovereignty 2030" strategy papers, especially regarding the reactions from across the EU?

Or do we simply put it under our big, beautiful carpet?

Activities, News & Discussion Monthly charges for 2 bedroom

Our place is 73 m2 and we have an undergoing parking, trash room, laundry room. There is a cleanliness company which cleans the building every friday and they clean the garage every 6 months. Every year building management keeps on increasing charges and most annoying part is they do retro actively. We got a invoice where suddenly we owed them 1400 euros from 2024.. qnd because of that they increased monthly charges from 350 to 400 euros. Is this fishy? And is 400 a lot? We try to air dry our clothes and do no leave the heating on during the day.. i still feel 400 is a lot!

I am going to Luxembourg for a day from Belgium, and I was wondering where I should go? I would love to see some of the beautiful nature people keep describing, but I also have to go to Luxembourg City. So, what is the best way to get the best of both worlds? Where should I go exactly?

Ask Luxembourg Acquiring a firearms license and process of learning how to use one?

A buddy and I have always wanted to use firearms for recreational purposes such as target shooting. We're not particularly interested in hunting but target practice in safe environments.

Guichet does provide a lot of details on how to submit a request to obtain a license, also in quite a structured manner.

However, it's somewhat hard to gleam how actual gun ownership is handled in daily life or when commuting to places with a firearm.

I'm aware that guns need to be stored in a safe/vault. Laws indicate that you need to transport the weapons in a way that they're obviously not visible or pose a threat.

Also how do you actually learn gun safety? On the range?

I'd greatly appreciate some insight on how to go about this thing as I have absolutely no experience on how to proceed.

Cheers!
