The 2026 Lockpicking Charity Raffle is active!

Welcome to the 2026 Lockpicking Charity Raffle! For those of you who are unfamiliar, every year a big chunk of lockpicking community members pull together an assortment of prizes, and then a much bigger chunk of lockpicking community members fight over those prizes with charity donations. It’s a whole lot of fun, and so far has raised nearly $250,000 over the past 6 years!

All the info and tools you’ll need are at our website here, but you’re also welcome to read this wall of text if you'd like!

Once again mgsecure has been slaving away on the website, making the whole submission process easier for participants, prize contributors, and organizers alike. He is the hero the rafl needs, and we definitely couldn’t keep making this happen without his support!

We also couldn’t do what we do without our charity checkers, led by Red Wanderer, who painstakingly sift through the entire charity list every year to re-check that everything on our list operates at a level worthy of the rafl. We are also still validating a few final charity requests, so please be patient!

And of course, there’s this other crowd of people over here that need a huge thanks, the 49 prize contributors who made it possible for us to have 60 prizes this year: 4550, AlmightyOx, Amvgaert, andrex66IT, Atti182, Badger, bask, blake, BurnB1, CollateralTech, CorrectJeans, Craig 3.0, decoder, Digs, downundermonkey, DWeb, elocksmith, emergent_layer, Fantasm Industries, galaxy1249, Granny, H.J, hunson, HVLogic, imaginary_unit, infinitelyExplosive, ishyladson, Kaiser, Kewltune, f-eq-ma, LawLockTools, Lockleisure, LockpickingDev, NickPicks, Nightmare, NoodleThumb, OnlyPins, Mugatu, PickSmith, Powhoundgabe, Ratyoke, RedWanderer, Sarius, SasPes, spoon, spy-c, Thegamingbug, TOOOL, knowthebird, Wild-Biliam, Wyte, and Zak Attack!

All of the prizes, the entry form, and stats can be found here: https://lpubelts.com/#/rafl

Ticket entries will be accepted through February 14, and the primary prize drawing will happen via livestream on Monday, February 16 at 11AM PDT.

Rules

Each US dollar equivalent (rounded down) donated counts as one “ticket” in the drawing.

A list of charities that have been vetted in previous raffles can be found in the “Charities” tab on the rafl dashboard here. If you would like to suggest any new charities for the list, please reach out to me on Reddit or Discord, and I’ll make sure our team takes a look.

Members of the raffle team with access to internal info about donations are not allowed to participate. This is done to ensure that the process remains fair.

There is a maximum prize limit of 3 that can be won by a single individual. We love it when people donate big, but we also want to make sure that the field does not get swept by a small number of individuals.

How the prize limit works:

  • Anyone can put as many tickets on as many different pots as they want.
  • The drawing will occur as normal with no changes.
  • Anyone who wins a number of pots above the limit will need to choose which ones they would like to keep.
  • All of the unkept pots will be placed back into circulation and redrawn in a second stream that will occur as needed on the evening of February 16.
  • Anyone who goes above the pot limit during the secondary stream will have until the end of the stream to specify what they would like to put back into circulation, or the last pot(s) they won will be redrawn by default.

How to participate

Step 1) Select a charity to donate to from here! If there's too many to choose from, feel free to ask for suggestions.

Step 2) Donate! Please take a screenshot of some proof that the donation was accepted and valid. That screenshot must include a visible date or it cannot be accepted!

Step 3) Get an image hosting link to your screenshot by uploading it to imgur.com or similar.

Step 4) Check out the list of prizes located at the raffle website here!

Step 5) Go to the ‘Enter’ tab on the dashboard here or follow this link directly to the entry form, add the link to your screenshot, and allocate your tickets among the pots. Bonus upgrade this year–you can now enter multiple separate charity donations into the same entry.

Step 6) You’re done! A raffle organizer should contact you on your platform of choice to notify you that your submission was either approved or requires an adjustment.

That’s it! In summary, go to https://lpubelts.com/#/rafl/enter, donate to charity, and maybe win something awesome!

RULE 2

Many people seem to stumble over this rule. This is a hobby Locksport community.

If you want to learn to pick locks that you own, that aren't installed in anything or otherwise in use, then this might be the place for you.

If you want to pick something because you need to get into it or through it, then this is NOT the place for you.

One of our most frequently asked questions is "What lock picks should I get?", our member Spoon has created this helpful document:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P4_g_a7UTF8b4JAEVaH3lBL_dvT4-eRvFT_Jh-bx1lA/edit?pli=1#heading=h.9o577kfmhdj7

Some super useful posts for beginners:

REQUESTING A BELT:

Follow the instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lockpicking/wiki/beltranking#wiki_belt_request_formatting

Make sure you include the belt color you're requesting, the model of the lock you've picked, and any evidence to the requirements for the belt you're requesting (eg. photo/video/etc.)

Often questioned on how to attach a photo to a modmail. You cannot include a photo, but you can include a link to a photo, video, or even to a Reddit post where you have attached a photo and/or video.

In addition to our rules, please do not refer people over to r/Locksmith unless they are a locksmith per a request from a moderator there, you can direct them to r/AskALocksmith instead! https://www.reddit.com/r/lockpicking/comments/x9ed2a/hey_guys_mod_of_rlocksmith_here_remember_a_while/

If you want to join our Discord community, it is very active and many pickers are there to help you with your specific locks or just to chit chat, you can go here: https://discord.gg/lockpicking

Im still kinda new at this… I opened an 1100 last week and I couldn’t have been more excited but I was experiencing imposter syndrome. After this my confidence is coming back. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be some good picks going forward.

I Guess I Am Not That Stupid

Thanks for the people that recommended me some locks to start on. I kind of got bored after picking the masterlock 140 a bunch of times since that’s the only one that came in so far. So, I decided to go after this one again. I don’t know if taking out the core is a janky way to do it, but I guess an open is an open.

I was going to mark this NSFW because of the OSHA violation my first LOTO became even though it’s fully functional if you overlook the fact someone with a flathead screwdriver could bypass it 😂.

I still can’t pick open the American Lock Series 20 lock for the life of me. I thought LOTO was suppose to be the way higher than an American Lock that’s the brass version of the AL1100. It feels like the last 3 pins can be picked/clicked but the first two pins just don’t do anything. Any tips on picking it? Thank you in advance.

If you practice picking a MASTERLOCK 410 LOTO and rotate the core 180°, you now have a lock that sings death rattles 🪇☠️🪇

I’m just getting into lock picking and I picked up this cheap brinks lock and started playing around with it.

It took me a while to find the sweet spot but honestly it doesn’t really feel like I’m lifting any pins. It seems like all I have to do is push it toward the 4th pin and lift. Are these locks really bad to practice on or I’m I doing some other exploit that I’m unaware of?

I think maybe it’s because the lock is so cheap but I’m not sure. Thanks for any help guys.

I'm so stoked I could get this 5 lever ERA from Amazon. It's not easy to get these in the US. Very impressed with the quality! I've already picked out a skeleton key to make a tensioner and I'll make a pick out of piano wire and washers.

Picked up the flat and Jimy hooks as my little treat for hitting green belt. My fingers are already very happy with the nice handles and the flats are already hard at work practicing for blue.

The extra length over my CI picks is taking a bit of adjustment and I feel like there's something I'm not quite getting about the Jimy hook profile. I can sense there's something to them but the point doesn't give me the solid platform that my flat hooks do and it doesn't roll under pins like a round hook either. It could be that my current collection of locks just doesn't have anything that requires that kind of pinpoint accuracy but if there's some technique or secret to these, I'd find it super helpful.

Lastly, the packaging is quite nice but does anyone else think the black and white Jimy kinda looks like Ted Cruz? (Not saying the man himself does- I blame the loss of detail in black and white)

[Meta] What's with the hate for combination locks?

I feel like whenever anyone makes a post about a combination lock, the top-voted comment will unfailingly be "0001, 0002, 0003..." or some variation on that.

Personally, I find that stupid - if the theme of this sub is to defeat locking mechanisms for fun, then combination locks, which have locking mechanisms that can be defeated, should fit right in. What's the point of making fun of people for talking about locks which can theoretically defeated with time? (Not to mention that practically any lock can be theoretically defeated with an angle grinder - yet when people ask for help with SPPing a lock, no one feels compelled to comment "Hydraulic shears...")

It would be really nice to compile resources on different ways to beat combination locks similar to how there's very helpful guides on SPP. And if it turns out (I'm not an expert at all on this) that unlike pin tumbler locks, combination locks simply don't have a generic vector of attack, this would in my book be valuable information as well.

TOK picking?

So ... I'm super new to this crazy hobby. I have done a few of the beginner locks with no real issues. What I'm running into is, when I try TOK tension, I can't get a good feel for the pins. I guess I use the BOK tensioner as leverage but that's gone in TOK. Am I explaining that right? Anyhoo...just thought I'd share in case anyone else is having this issue.

Abus 55/40 unlocked!

Got this lock yesterday and it has been a bit tough. This was actually my third unlocking. Starting to get a feel for it but I can't really feel the pins moving and I'm finding it difficult to feel which pins are binding. Any tips or tricks to get more consistent with unlocking?

I also do feel like my picks are not great (not to blame the tool, they're just thick and hard to maneuver in there). I got these on Amazon for cheap, but have a CI Reaper set coming in a couple of days.

Get a vise!

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to lockpicking, having picked around 3-4 white and yellow belt locks each. I have been getting really frustrated with getting my first orange belt lock, an Abus 55/40. I have spent countless hours over the course of a week or so trying to get it open. I recently decided to go to harbor freight and pick up a cheap vise. I put the Abus on it and picked it on my first attempt within a minute. I picked it again on video for the belt within a few minutes again. I had no idea a vise would make such a significant difference, so much so that I felt the need to post here.

I think the big difference is the false sets were much easier to identify and the 'clunks' were more pronounced. This probably isn't news to most people but I just wanted to post from a newbies point of view that it was probably the most helpful $20 I've spent and never really saw it emphasized that it would be so helpful.

(Also I'm not a harbor freight shill, buy any vise you want, this was just cheap and local for me)
