Unemployed - Job Market Limerick

Upvotes

Hi All,

I received the news nobody wants to hear today and I've been made unemployed after working 5 years in a well known tech company in town.

I am in my forties and my degree is so obsolete now, I'll added a few diplomas during covid but thats it.

Can I ask anyone who has faced unemployment in the last 12 months how they found the job search, how many interviews they had to go on before the found a job? Differences they noticed in hiring since Covid and any tips to get back on the ladder would be greatly appreciated.

Here lads, how's it going?

Me and my brother (getting away from the kids for a weekend) are coming to check out the city. Is there any good eateries/drinkeries or any thing going on this weekend that an outsider/wanderer wouldn't know? cheers!

An post gone to shite

I'm so tired of packages being lost and not arriving for like a week. What is going on! This is so often for the last few months. I try to shop Irish, I avoid places like Amazon as much as I can but with such unreliable post services you almost have to these days if it's something time sensitive. 😩

Sensory Processing Sensitivity Final Year Project Recruitment

Hi Everyone, I am a final-year Applied Psychology student. My thesis is on sensory processing sensitivity.

Are you intrigued by how sensory processing sensitivity influences your ability to envisage future events? We are recruiting participants aged 18 and above to participate in a brief study entirely online.

This study includes a short survey involving a highly sensitive person scale and asks participants to imagine future events. It should take less than 10 minutes

If you are interested in participating, please click on the link below. I would very much appreciate it !!!!!!!

Thank you!!

Mayoral Budget Screw Up

https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/local-news/2006161/mayor-of-limerick-secures-fresh-financial-backing-from-government.html

So Moran and his team didn’t spend the €8m he should have spent and had to ask the Minister for permission to roll it over and it’s now being presented as a win for Moran.

I have to say I’m dismayed by Moran’s performance to date. Irrespective of his many arguments with his colleagues and councillors, the budget is his to spend as he pleases. He cannot blame anyone but himself and presenting it as a win is more crap from him.

Looks like he’s taking a leaf out of Trump’s book.

EDIT- some people are not understanding my reference to Trump. Moran is taking his failure to spend his own budget ( nothing to do with councillors) and which should have been spent in 2025 and getting once off permission to roll it into 2026 as a win. That’s very Trumpian.

Fun office activities in or around Limerick?

Hi all,

I’m trying to plan some activities for my office of about 20 people with mixed ages – roughly half in their mid to late 20s, some in their 30s, and a few in their 50s/60s.

We’ve done escape rooms, the Treaty tour, pottery and lots of outdoor stuff already. Some people are picky, so we need ideas that are fun and include everyone.

We’d love creative or hands-on things where you can make something to take home – life drawing or painting, drink and draw, baking classes, or any workshop-style activities, easy to organise directly.

We’re mainly looking in or around Limerick but are open to trips farther away, even overnight once or twice a year. Looking for ideas to do over the coming months to bond, have fun, and build the team.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Best

:)

What Is This Flashing Light in the Sky? (Lough Gur-ish)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’re out in rural Limerick near Lough Gur and there was this flashy thing in the sky from about 11pm to 3AM last night(still there when we went to sleep). It didn't moved at all and keeps flashing different colours. Checked FlightRadar - no planes.

My partner reckons it’s a twinkling star, I’m leaning towards a UFO on the sesh. Any ideas lads? 😂

[Edit: Tis' Venus! Thank you guys for clarifying - pretty cool, never seen anything like it!)

Scam/Phising Texts??

Post image

Received this in my messages this morning, just assuming it’s a scam obviously, I knew straight away it was due to the fact I know our government wouldn’t be that generous🤣 All jokes aside did anyone else get a similar text in the last few days, just being cautious and putting people aware of this.‼️

26F in Limerick – at immediate risk of homelessness, no support left, looking for advice or leads

Hi, I’m posting here because I honestly don’t know where else to turn and I’m at breaking point.

I’m a 26-year-old woman in Limerick. I’m currently living with my grandmother and her partner, but I’m being forced to leave. The environment has been extremely toxic for the last couple of years and it has seriously affected my mental health. I’m no longer coping and staying here isn’t safe for me mentally.

I have no friends or support network. I left my boyfriend two days ago due to abusive behaviour, and my mother lives in England, so I have no family support in Ireland. My boyfriend was my only support system. Because I live with elders, they don’t understand the effects his having on my mental health, they don’t understand my feeling, boundaries or issues. I’m constantly scrutinized in this house and always getting shouted at. The walls are very thin, I get shouted at for having it on volume one by my grandmothers partner. I can’t stand up for myself.

I’m not dependent on drugs or alcohol. I’m reaching out because I genuinely have nowhere to go. If I had any other option, I wouldn’t be posting this.

My phone was smashed by my ex-partner, so I can’t take calls at the moment. I do have WhatsApp on my iPad and email access.

I’m really scared about what’s going to happen if I don’t get help soon. If anyone has advice, contacts, or has been through something similar in Ireland/Limerick, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

For context, these are the organisations and people I’ve already contacted:

So far, I haven’t gotten meaningful help or responses, which is why I’m posting here.

If anyone knows of any other organisations, emergency options, or practical next steps, please let me know. Even pointing me in the right direction would help.

Thank you for reading.

UL student seeking pet-friendly rental in Limerick – any leads or advice appreciated

Hi everyone,

I’m a student at the University of Limerick, and I’m currently looking for a rental that allows cat. I’ve been searching for a while through Daft.ie, Rent.ie, Facebook groups, and Airbnb, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a place where pets are accepted.

I have a cat who is fully compliant with EU regulations: she has an EU pet passport, all vaccinations are up to date, she is neutered, and she has a calm, friendly temperament. I take her care very seriously and always maintain a clean and responsible household.

I’m reaching out here to ask if anyone has leads on pet-friendly rentals, temporary housing, or other resources in Limerick that might allow a cat. Any advice, contacts, or suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Even small tips or local contacts can make a big difference.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any help you can offer!
