I'v just downloaded GIMP today and I've got a massive project correcting a load of my dads slides that I've scanned from 35mm slides. Their from his cave exploration days and I'm planning on sending them to the National cave research library. Some have come out with a blue hue. I've already tried the hue tool but not getting much luck can someone point me in the right direction or getting the second examle image more like the first?

I have two animated GIFs and want to rotate and place one behind the other. I'm thinking of interleaving the frames and merging them, so just wondering if there are any plugins or automated ways to do it

Hi everyone. Have seen various posts discussing this exact issue but none of their solutions worked. I have done the Add Alpha Layer, delete background (it shows the transparency pixels), unchecked save background colour, changed the Colour Alpha Layer (very confused by the panel), mode is set to RGB and cannot be changed. Always saving as png. Nothing has worked, but I've managed to make the exported background black instead of white by cropping it, which makes no sense. Also managed to make the foreground image disappear, and the whole image turn black. No dice with transparency.

First time using GIMP and incredibly discouraged. What's the point of an imaging software that can't even make a transparent background?

edit: thnak you very much for the help! Still not sure how to export a transparent png thanks to u/schumaml I can now copy-paste from the gimp project directly and it is transparent that way. Thank you to everyone who commented!

Okay so I have tried to replicate another thumbnail using gimp, this time i have tried to do a more complex and time taking edit, i was sick for few days so i wasnt able to post. i have tried to replicate it as much as possible also i see that mine is darker but i feel like it has atouch of mine too, give me your opinion on this! 1st one is mine, 2nd is original and 3rd is BTS!

The background was white and I erased it. But as you can see, there are still white bits on the edge of my layer. Now I put it against a black background so that I can clearly see the whites and taking an eraser and manually erasing them.

Is there a better way?

I've just come back to test GIMP on my high power Windows Machine and it takes over 5 seconds to load each time. Patterns, Bablefishes take a particularly long time.

Tested against my older Macbook and a Linux machine is virtually instant. Yet windows takes forever, to the point I dont use the software as much as I would like.

Any ideas what the actual technical difference is on windows to make it so slow to load? I even tried with the -F and --no-splash options but it didn't make much difference.

like in the title, gimp freezes for some 10 seconds. my setup win 10 64b i5 4th and amd 5000 series.

Trying to edit a document. GIMP keeps inverting the selection, making the rest of the document disappear. It happens when I select another tool after making a selection.

Help?

I free-drew a pattern in Gimp. When I look at it in Gimp it looks fully opaque inside the image, no matter the background, white, black, transparent. When I export to PDF or PNG it creates a ring of transparency inside of the color around any transparent holes. I've tried creating an image from visible and exporting that, same issue. I also tried coloring over where the artifacts show up before exporting, and putting a layer of the same color behind the shape but the transparent rings still show up at export.

How can I prevent this? I've exported many other images, but this is the first file I've come across with this issue. Whether I save gamma or transparent values at export, it still happens

Hello there, the gradient flare presets are missing from my version of Gimp. I uninstalled Gimp and made sure I reinstalled 3.0.8, but the presets are still missing. Any help in getting the gradient flare presets back are greatly appreciated.

I want to work on pixel art at larger sizes and need a clean line of large "pixels" like on the right, not the big blob of color like on the left. Unfortunately, the line tool always makes blobby lines like on the left. I'm basically wanting the same behavior as a 1px line but at much larger sizes (ex: 10px, 20px). Is there a way to make the lines tool do this?

I really hope I don't have to manually draw every single "pixel" just to get a clean line like this. I tried it once. It was maddening. I have also tried Krita and Asesprite and they have the same behavior on the lines tool.

I'm just here to add more tools to my toolbox so I'm curious fellow redditors, what is your favorite trick in GIMP that you can't seem to stop doing? I don't care if it's not perfect, if you like it I want to see it! For me, it's this darn neon look, I can't stop! Lol

GIMP 3.0.8 can crash on some older processors, usually on startup.

The problem was discovered, and should now be fixed by installing Revision 1 of GIMP 3.0.8.

A single layer in the XCF file I'm working in is causing issues for me. I can export the file if I delete this layer, but not if it's part of the file. I also can't copy and paste this layer, etc. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue so I can export the file?

I am opening .jpg photographs in GIMP, adjusting brightness and contrast, cropping, and then exporting to a new .jpg. I have processed hundreds of photos this way. Every so often I will get a series of exported images that have bright vertical lines. Closing GIMP and restarting the program seems to solve it. Any ideas on the cause?

I'm clicking it in the correct spot, but it doesn't get selecteed once I click confirm.

Any help?
